Finally finished the first half of my college class! Yay! No more essays for like two days! xD
Disclaimer: I do not own Soul Eater.
"Don't you think it's a bit strange?" I asked as Kid, our partners, and I boarded the jet.
"What is?" Kid asked, pushing his bags into the upper compartment.
"Shinigami-sama wanted me to go with you on this two-star Meister mission," I grunted, struggling to put my bags inside, "But I'm not even a two-star Meister."
"Maybe because of your past experience as a Meister?" Char suggested as Kid helped me with my bags.
"I guess that would make sense." I shrugged, and thanked Kid.
"Well, we have a looong plane ride ahead of us." Liz stretched then sat down and kicked her feet onto the coffee table.
"Plane trip, plane trip~!" Patti giggled in excitement and plopped onto the sofa. Inside the cabin of the plane provided all that we would need for our trip, and, of course, it was all symmetrical to keep Kid's obsessive compulsiveness at bay.
The country of Ukraine was experiencing some strange and disturbing disappearances, so Shinigami-sama wanted us to investigate. It wasn't just people disappearing; whole towns were gone, with no trace of them being there except the empty Earth left behind.
Just the thought brought a shiver, but partly because of the dropping temperature in the room as the weather changed. It was winter, and some parts of Europe had begun to snow. I turned to look at the others, scattered around the large cabin, asleep. I got up and quietly maneuvered myself easily through the dark, getting to the small pantry on the other side. Gently I started to lay blankets on the sleeping figures, but once I got to unfolding Kid's he began to stir and his eyes opened slightly. When they opened wider, I couldn't help but be mesmerized by their glow.
"Kuro?" his voice was hoarse from sleep.
"Hey," I spoke, snapping out of my revere, "Um, would you like a blanket?"
He shook his head, "No thanks."
I shrugged then wrapped it around myself before settling in to the couch seat beside him and gazing out the window.
He turned to look over his shoulder out the window, "Can you even see anything?"
"Yes; my eyes are used to the dark, and besides this is my first time on an airplane. Then again, it was more amusing when there wasn't water everywhere." I turned away from the window and hugged my knees to my chin, trying to capture my heat.
"You're still cold?" he asked, noting my movement.
"No, I'm fine." I lied.
He chuckled softly, "You're lying."
"How can you tell?" I asked then added stubbornly, "I told you I'm fine."
"I heard your teeth starting to chatter."
I didn't even realize they were. It must've not been loud enough for me to feel self-conscious about it.
"Here," he said, and he put his arm around me before hugging me a bit closer to him, causing my heart to skip a beat, "Is this better?"
For the second time I remarked in my thoughts how warm he was. It wasn't uncomfortable warmth, in fact it was quite the opposite; it felt even better than the blanket.
"I'm telling you I'm not cold…" I trailed off, starting to lay my head against his shoulder anyway.
"Just sleep already." He chuckled again.
"You're enjoying this, aren't you?" I picked my head up and gave him a look that he probably wouldn't be able to see.
"I have no idea what you're talking about." He smirked, and then said "Just sleep, Kuro. We're going to have a long day tomorrow. I give you the liberty of using me as a pillow for the night."
I rolled my eyes playfully, then set my head against his shoulder again, "Mhm."
I could feel the side of his head press softly against the top of my head, and I pictured how we would look to Char, Liz, and Patti; curled up next to each other, his arm around me. Were we snuggling? Was this technically snuggling? My cheeks felt a flash of heat again, and I wondered what the Hell was going on with me. It's not like this meant anything; he just wants to keep me warm.
"Kuro?" Kid whispered, possibly unsure whether or not I was asleep. I stayed quiet and pressed my head into the crook of his neck to hide my eyes. I didn't know what was going on with me, and I couldn't possibly explain it to him. Eventually he set his head back against mine, and I found solace in hearing his breathing.
The next morning, I walked onto the large patch of empty Earth in shock, "How did this happen?"
"Who could've done this?" Liz asked.
"A whole damn town…" Char said.
Suddenly Kid put a finger to his lips, and I heard what he heard; something was rustling in the bushes. Kid snuck to the bush, then grabbed whatever was inside, taking out a small boy that couldn't look any older than eight years. His cheeks were tear stained and he was shaking in pure fear.
I hurried to him, surprised by the find. Kid placed him onto the ground gently and we all bent down in front of him.
"What's your name little guy?" Char asked softly.
The little boy hiccupped, and then spoke in his native language. We all blinked, except for Kid, who spoke to him back, I think translating Char's question.
"His name is Dmytro. He came from the last town a few miles back." Kid said, then asked Dmytro another question.
"What did you ask?" I asked Kid, impressed by his ability to understand, but what else would you expect from Shinigami-sama's son?
"If he saw what happened here." Kid answered while he waited for the boy.
Dmytro spoke quickly and shakily in his native tongue, then at the end he began to cry and I began to stroke his hair.
"There, there..." Patti cooed.
"He said that he was with his father while his mother was back at their home. The two were buying steel when this boy suddenly came and started killing people. His father told him to run as far as he could. He did, but when he came back, his father and everything else was gone." Kid said, translating.
"What did this boy look like?" Liz asked, and then Kid translated.
When Dmytro finished talking, Kid froze.
"What is it?" I asked, noticing his sudden tension.
The boy began screaming and he hid behind me, pointing towards the trees.
Kid stood up and planted himself in front of me, Liz and Patti immediately turned into weapons and Char followed suit as I picked an arrow out of my quiver.
"Is it who I think it is?" Liz asked warily.
"I thought we killed them all…" the boy walked unsteadily out of the shadows, "Ragnarok…"
End of Chapter XIV
Note: I'm aware of Crona being female in the manga, but I'm used to the male Crona from the anime (I started with the anime first). Hopefully that's not too big of a deal for you guys! Thank you for reading!
