Life during a war
Chapter 29: Names
My eyes open, slowly, I look around and see Tobias lying next to me, on our bed. He's asleep but I can tell he has been crying. Everyone else is sleeping in their beds too. I look to my other side and see a machine switched on, a beeping sound is coming from it. There is a pouch of blood, and another two, both filled halfway with clear liquid on the IV pole, all of them going into my arm through three needles. There are straps around my bump that is attached to another machine, which is also making a beating sound. The other one, the first one I saw is attached to wires that are stuck to my chest. I see an oxygen mask lying on a small table which was obviously used for me. My stomach is bare, apart from the straps, my top pulled up to my chest and a large square of white gauze that covers the side of my stomach, I can see blood seeping through it, but it is dried blood. The blanket covers my legs but I know that my trousers are still on.
I remember what happened in the cafeteria and start to panic, causing the machine with the things attached to my chest to start beating faster. Tobias awakens and so does everyone else.
Tobias sits up and looks at me, taking my hands in his.
"Is the baby okay?" I ask, scared.
"The baby is fine, Tris. The bullet didn't hit anything important to you or the baby, he was too far away and the bullet didn't go in far enough to do any damage." Tobias explains.
I take deep breaths, allowing me to calm down. My baby is okay. My son is okay.
I start to cry and Tobias pulls me into him, allowing me to cry into his chest. I grip onto his shirt as hard as I can, like I did with my mum.
"Why do bad things have to keep happening to us?" I ask him.
"I don't know, Tris. But things are going to get better, I promise. No one is going to hurt you, or our baby again." He says.
"What about all of you?" I ask.
"No one is going to hurt any of us, I promise." He tells me.
"Where are David, Caleb, Marcus and Peter now?" I ask.
"David is in prison for shooting you, his trial is tomorrow but no matter what happens he isn't going to be a leader any more. The other three ran back to their room when they woke up and haven't come out since, according to Amar and George, who are spying on them for us." He replies.
"Oh. So, they're probably thinking of a plan to hurt us even more." I say, quietly.
"Tris, no one is going to hurt us any more, especially not you or the baby." He says.
"But they came here to hurt us, to kill our baby and they almost succeeded. Who's to say they aren't going to succeed?" I question.
"Because I won't let them. None of us will." He says, everyone nods.
"Tris, I suggest you get some rest. You've been through a lot and you're probably tired. You lost quite a bit of blood from your wound, I am giving you morphine and nutrients, as well as blood, so go to sleep." Hana says.
"Okay." I say, wiping the tears off my cheeks with the back of my hands.
Everyone goes back to their beds, Tobias lays back down next to me, helping me down with him.
"I love you, Tris, I love our baby too." He says.
"We love you as well. But I don't think I'm going to be able to sleep for a while." I tell him.
"Okay, we haven't thought of any names yet. You wanna do that now?" He asks.
"Yeah. What names do you like?" I ask him.
"Well, I like Tobias…"
"We are not naming our son Tobias Jr, got it. Also, if we ever have a daughter, Beatrice Jr is not an option." I say, cutting him off, and he laughs.
"I was joking. I like Theodore, but Theo for short, James, Joshua, Josh for short, Chase, Oscar, Oliver, Riley, Hunter and Daniel, Dan for short." He says.
"I like all of those names too. Can Andrew be his middle name, after my dad?" I ask.
"Of course. So what name, or names, do you like best?" He questions.
"Theodore, Joshua, Oliver, Hunter and Daniel." I answer.
"Okay." He says.
"Four names or three names?" I ask.
"I don't mind. Four names at the maximum though, anything above that is way too much." He says. "But if we have a daughter, one day, she should have six names."
I get it after a few seconds and laugh.
"Ha, no." I say.
"Why? I think that is a wonderful idea." He says.
"Six names is too many names." I tell him.
"Fine." He says, a pout on his face.
"Stop pouting and let's pick our son's name." I say.
"Okay." He says, still pouting.
"Stop pouting." I instruct.
He stops pouting and smiles.
"Right, what do you think we should name our little boy?" I ask.
"Oliver Andrew Eaton." He replies, smiling.
"That's cute. I like it." I say.
"Okay, so are we having an Oliver Andrew Eaton, or not?" He asks.
"We are having an Oliver Ander Eaton." I say.
He kisses me passionately for a few moments before getting cut off by Uriah yelling: "Guys, I don't think you should have sex, Tris has been shot and we're sleeping. I'd rather not spend all night listening to your moans and Tris saying 'Oh! Tobias! Faster!' also, congrats on finally finding a name for your son! I thought you didn't want us to know the gender until he was born."
"Shut up, Uriah!" I say.
"Fine, goodnight." He says, I can hear the smile in his voice.
"Night." I say.
"Goodnight, Tris. I love you." Tobias whispers.
"Goodnight, I love you, too." I tell him before drifting off into a peaceful sleep.
Hey Ravens, so Tris and Oliver are fine. Do you like the name I picked for him?
Anyways, I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas.
I will update again as soon as I can.
