Life during a war

Chapter 30: Healed

I am now fully healed after David shot me. David is now dead, he was executed yesterday for his crime. I am now twenty five weeks pregnant, fifteen weeks away from my due date. I am also pretty huge as our little Oliver is growing bigger every day.

Currently I am sitting on my bed, my back resting against the wall and my feet laid in front of me. My small hands rest on my stomach which is covered by the baggy, dark grey t-shirt that I am wearing, along with some black leggings. My feet are bare because none of my socks, or shoes, will actually fit me anymore, my feet have swollen, not by much, but enough to make my socks and shoes not fit me.

Tobias has gone to get food for my mum and I, we are the only ones in here as the others have either gone to get food or they're out exploring.

Oliver kicks and I groan as I touch the spot of my stomach that he kicked, hard.

"You okay sweetie?" My mum asks, she is sitting on Tobias' side of the bed.

"Yeah. He keeps kicking, hard." I tell her.

"Just like his mother." She says, smiling.

"What do you mean?" I ask.

"When I was pregnant with you, you were constantly kicking, well, from the moment that you could kick and I could feel it. You kicked so hard I knew you were gonna be Dauntless." She says, still smiling. I smile slightly too.

"What about when you were pregnant with… C-Caleb?" I ask.

"He hardly kicked at all. Maybe once a day at the most. He certainly wasn't gonna be Dauntless. Erudite, though, I never thought he'd be that. It's ironic really." She says, getting lost in thought.

"What's ironic?" I ask.

"Well, I lived in Dauntless before becoming an Abnegation, and you moved to Dauntless. Your father was from Erudite and Caleb moved there." She explains.

"Is dad actually… you know?" I ask, not daring to say the word that takes my father away from me forever.

"I don't know. I saw the footage of him… being shot, there was no one from here around there. So, yeah, I assume so." She says as tears come to her eyes.

"You really loved him." I say.

"Love. Present tense. I changed what I was supposed to do to be with him, that's why David hated me. But I still managed to do my job from Abnegation, so I don't see what the problem was." She says.

"Maybe he was jealous." I say, smirking.

"Jealous? Why would he be jealous?" She asks, confused.

I give her the look that says I think you know why.

"David did not have a crush on me." She states, matter-of-factly.

"Really? You honestly believe that? It explains why he was mad at you for changing the plans just so you could be with dad. He was jealous of dad because dad had what he wanted. You." I tell her.

"He did not have a crush on me." She says.

"Fine, you go on believing that." I say, still smirking.

"Mum, how old were you when you and dad got married?" I ask after a few moments of silence.

"I was twenty two and your dad was twenty three. I got pregnant with Caleb on our wedding night and I was still twenty two when he was born, however I was twenty three when we had you." She answers.

"So, that makes you thirty nine." I say.

"Yup, a bit young to be a grandma, but I don't mind, I already love my grandson." She says.

"He loves you, too. So do I." I tell her.

"I love you, too, sweetie." She says.

"How bad is the pain when giving birth?" I ask.

"Oh, it hurts a lot, more than any pain I have ever felt in my life, physically anyway. But you will have me, Tobias, Hana and everyone else with you, to help and support you. Also, just think that after all of the pain you will have a baby that you can love and cherish until the day you die. That's what I was thinking when giving birth to you and Caleb, it makes it better, slightly." She says.

I just nod.

"Hey, it's going to be okay, I promise." She says, embracing me.

That is when Tobias walks back into the room carrying a tray full of food in his hands.

"What were you girls talking about whilst I was gone?" He asks as he sits with my mum and I.

"You know, just girl stuff." My mum answers.

We start eating, talking about whatever we can think to talk about.

Then Will and Christina come bursting into the room in a hurry, trying to catch their breaths as they walk over to us.

"What's going on guys?" I ask.

"Something's wrong." Christina says, still trying to catch her breath.

"What?" Tobias asks.

"David's alive." Will tells us.

"What?" I ask this time.

"He's alive, and we overheard him talking with someone about a plan to drop memory serum on Chicago." Will explains.

"Who was he talking to?" Mum asks.

"Some guy called Matthew. They were talking about ways to stop the war in the city and they decided on memory serum. They plan to release it in ten weeks, once they have come up with a plan." Christina says.

"We need to stop them." Tobias says. "We can't just let everyone in the city lose their memories. There's good people in there, people that don't deserve to lose their memories. We need to stop David and this Matthew guy. We need to save the city."

"We need a plan." My mum says.

Hey Ravens, how are you?

I went back to college yesterday and I have mock exams for the next two weeks, so if I don't update many of my other stories it is because I'm revising, but I will try to update all of them at least once.

I will update again when I can.
