Life during a war
Chapter 32: Inoculations
It has been a week since we decided that my mum was going to be the person to go into the weapons lab and spread the memory serum. I am twenty six weeks pregnant. She isn't going to do it yet, we haven't been inoculated against it still, George and Amar are getting the inoculations today. But she isn't going to go in there for another four weeks. She has to learn the code that will spread it and Tobias is teaching her how to shoot a gun again, since being beaten by David for weeks she isn't as good as she used to be. We decided she should learn how to shoot again just in case anything happens when she is in there.
Right now we are all in our dorm, watching my mum shoot her gun at the make-shift target we have on the wall, the gun has a silencer on it so it doesn't arouse suspicion from passers-by.
I am sitting on my bed, far away from everyone else, my hands on my stomach, rubbing it gently. I get hungry so I grab and apple from the bag of food near my bed and take a bite out of it, listening to everyone, except from Amar and George who are getting the inoculations, cheer on my mum as she shoots.
Christina comes over to me and sits on the edge of the bed, next to my outstretched legs.
"How are you feeling?" She asks me.
"Tired, hungry, upset…" I answer, trailing off as I take another bite of my apple.
"You know that your mum is the only person who can go in there, and you know she's going to be fine, she's going to live." She tells me.
"You don't know that." I reply.
"I know I don't. But I have faith, your mum is strong, and she can survive the death serum, she said so herself. Will has been doing extra research, he read that anyone who has an aptitude for three or more factions are naturally immune to the death serum. Your mum is going to be fine. I promise, Tris. She wouldn't leave you like that again, she loves you and that baby too much to leave you so soon, I know how much she wants to meet her grandson. Tris, she isn't going to leave you." She says.
"She's the only blood family I have left, I can't lose her, something could happen when she is on her way there, or in there, or on her way back to here." I say.
"I know, but I promise that your mum isn't going to leave you that easily. You have all of us here to support you and help you out, no matter what happens, just have some faith." She says.
I nod and she wraps her arms around me.
"We're your family as well, Tris, we all love you, and we will all be here for you." She says.
When she pulls away she smiles at me and I can't help but smile back at her, she's like my sister, I look over to everyone else and realise that they really are my family. I love each and every one of them.
"So, where were you and Will last night?" I ask her when I look back at her.
"Oh, we, uh, found a lovely little closet and decided to have, you know, since we haven't done, it, since we were back in Dauntless, before we came here." She says, quietly, looking down as she starts to blush.
"Oooh." I say in a girly voice.
"Oh, my, God, you can be a girl." She says, jokingly.
"Uh, I am a girl, how else would I be pregnant?" I say, pretending to be hurt by placing my hand over my heart.
"Well, have you watched that old film called Junior? Because I am pretty sure a man was pregnant in that." She says before laughing. I laugh too.
That is when George and Amar burst into the room, George has a bag in his hand.
"We've got them." George exclaims.
Christina helps me up and we walk over to them as everyone gathers around them. George pours all of the needles out of the bag and onto one of the spare beds in the room. Zoe is also in here so she can get inoculated.
"Everyone take one and tap it with your finger a few times to get rid of air bubbles, then inject it into your neck like you would with any serum." Amar says.
We all take one and do as he said. When we're all done Amar hides the needles in the mattress of the bed as he has cut it open.
"Good, now we're all inoculated against memory serum, for life." Amar says, and we all breathe a sigh of relief.
"Let's get back to shooting!" Uriah yells.
So we all sit back down and watch my mum shoot her gun, cheering her on as she goes.
Hey Ravens, how are you?
Sorry for making you wait so long, I have been so caught up in college work, I have to make a short film for film studies, and I have had essays to write and stuff. It was also my friend's birthday and I spent the night around hers. I have also been ill.
I will update again as soon as I can.
