Life during a war

Chapter 33: Shot

Today is the day our plan goes ahead and my mum goes into the weapons lab to spread the memory serum. I am thirty weeks pregnant and scared as hell that something is going to go wrong.

She has remembered the code and is really good at shooting now.

Right now her and I are walking around the Bureau, talking about whatever comes to mind. When I say walking around the Bureau I mean our part of the Bureau so we don't bump into Caleb, Marcus or Peter.

"You know I am going to be all right. I'm not going to leave you or my grandson that easily." She tells me.

"You can't say that. Something might happen." I say.

"And if it does I will fight through it, I'm not going to leave you again Tris, I promise." She says.

"Mum, I'm scared." I reply as tears start pouring down my cheeks.

We stop walking and she pulls me into her, wrapping her arms around me so I can cry into your shoulder.

"I promise I am not going to leave you, Tris. I love you, so much, and my grandson."

"I love you, too, mum. You're the only blood family I have left, don't leave me, please."

"I'm not going to leave you, I promise."

We stay like that for a few more minutes before deciding to head back to our dorm.

When we enter the dorm we find Christina, Will, Uriah, Zeke, Tori and Bud getting ready to head back to the city with Amar and George. They aren't going to stay in the city, they're just going to try and sort out the war, and they're taking memory serum with them as well.

Tobias comes over to my mum and I. He kisses me before leading me to our bed and helping me sit on it, which I'm thankful for as my feet are killing me and my stomach is so big now that it's hard to sit and stand.

"Thanks." I say when I am comfortable.

"No problem. Are you okay? You look like you've been crying." He asks, worried.

I nod.

"I think I know a way to stop the war in the city, but it means that I have to go with them." He says after a few minutes of silence.

"What's your plan?" I ask.

"Well, it is Evelyn who is the one still making the war go on by treating everyone but the factionless terribly. If I go to her and offer her the choice of taking memory serum and being my mum but stopping the war then I have a feeling that will work. But obviously to be my mum she has to accept you and the baby, if she doesn't then I will give her the memory serum whether she likes it or not then we will have to sort everything out because she won't remember anything. We also have enough memory serum to sort out all of the factionless meaning they can all stop treating people badly, when everything is sorted out we can go back home and be a family." He says, smiling.

"Go with them, go and speak to Evelyn." I tell him, also smiling.

"Are you sure? I don't want to leave you here without me."

"I'll be fine, I won't be alone. I have Shauna, Hana, Harrison, Lynn, Marlene and my mum here with me. Go and stop the war, I can't handle it here any longer. I need to go home." I reply.

"Okay, I'll be back soon. Be safe." He says, pulling me in for a hug.

"I will. You be safe too. I love you."

"I love you, too."

We kiss passionately for about a minute before he pulls away and lays his forehead against mine.

"You should go and pack."

"Yeah, I probably should."

We kiss again and he kisses my large baby bump.

"I see you later." He says.

I nod and he goes over to everyone else, to pack some stuff like guns, knives, memory serum.

Two hours have passed since then, we waved them goodbye an hour ago, now it's time for my mum to leave and do her job.

We are all staying in the room whilst she does what she has to do.

She comes over to hug me and I can't help but cry again.

"I love you, Beatrice, remember that." She says.

"I love you, too, mum." I say. "Stay safe. Don't leave me."

"I won't. I'm not going down without a fight. I promise."

I nod and she pulls away, wiping my tears away with the pads of her thumbs.

She kisses my forehead and my stomach before leaving the room, her gun in her hands and a knife in her pocket.

Shauna comes over to me and wraps her arms around me.

"She's going to be okay, Tris."

I just nod. It's all I can do.

Half an hour has passed since my mum left the room. She should be back by now.

I'm pacing.

"Tris, calm down, you're going to stress out the baby." Hana says as she comes over to me, putting her hands on my shoulders which causes me to stop walking.

"If it helps I will go and find her, okay." Harrison says.

I nod at him and he picks up and gun before leaving the room.

Hana and I sit down on my bed and she tells me to get some sleep.

"No, I can't sleep until I know my mum, and Tobias, and everyone else is all right." I tell her stubbornly.

"Okay, are you hungry? Do you want something to eat?" She asks.

"Yeah, please." I say and she nods before standing and walking over to our bag of food. She grabs me a blueberry muffin and I eat it.

Ten minutes later Harrison comes rushing into the room carrying my mum in his arms. She's unconscious and is losing blood. A lot of blood.

"She did it. She set off the memory serum. But David was in there and he shot her, he's dead now, I shot him, even though he was under the effect of the memory serum." He tells us as he places her on her bed. Hana, Shauna and Lynn rush over to her, Hana with her medical stuff, and get to work right away.

I just sit there, in shock.

She's been shot.

David shot my mum.

She could die.

No. No. No. No. No.

I start panicking.

My breaths come fast and quick.

Shauna comes over to me and puts her hands on my shoulders.

"Tris, breathe. She's going to be okay, I promise. Stop panicking. Just breathe. You're going to stress out the baby and you'll go into labour. So breathe." She says, looking into my eyes. "In. Out. In. Out."

I copy her as she continues showing me how to breathe.

I calm down after a few minutes and my breaths even out.

"She's going to be okay." Shauna says as she pulls me in for a hug. I've gotten so many hugs today.

After a few minutes she lets go of me.

"Get some sleep, okay. I'll wake you when we're done." She tells me.

I nod and she helps me lay down.

I go to sleep as soon as my head hits the pillow.

Hey Ravens, how are you?

I will update as soon as I can.
