A/N- I know, this took way too long. It's been a very busy summer for me. Plus, I had some major writers block. But taking a break from it helped me get some different ideas rolling for it. Sometimes you have to step back from your work and clear your head before you can feel like you're ready to return to it.
Amber arrived at quantico, it was starting to rain as she hailed a cab outside of the train station. As a cab pulled up next to her, she opened the door and slid into the seat as she shut the door behind her. She told the cab driver the address and the driver hit the gas. As they made their way to the BAU, Amber couldn't help but wonder what plan they had. They always like to be sneaky. Amber watched the world pass her by from the back of the small cab.
The cab stopped in front of the Quantico building, Amber looked at it from the seat of the cab, the building stood tall and proud, with the american flag flapping in the wind. Amber handed the cab driver the money the meter said and a bit more for getting her there so quickly.
"Keep the change," she said as she opened the door and slid out of the car. She shut the door behind her and adjusted her bag strap on her shoulder. She walked towards the front door and the cab drove off. As she walked closer to the front door she realized Rossi was standing there. "Have you heard anything from him?" She asked as he opened the door for her. She waited for his answer as she opened the next door and held it open for him. They started walKing towards security, and Rossi still said nothing. He showed them his badge and told them that Amber was with him. They walked passed the guard and the metal detector and towards the elevator. Amber was getting anxious, but she tried not to show it. They entered the elevator and Rossi pressed the button. The doors closed and Amber turned to Rossi. "Is he alright?" She questioned, her voice a bit louder than before. She waited and still nothing. The doors opened, and Rossi stepped out of the elevator. Now amber was angry. "Rossi! Tell me, please if something happened to him," Amber demanded as they bursted into the bullpen through the doors. The rest of the team was standing there, smiles on their faces. Amber walked over to them, slowly, unsure of what was going on.
"Hi," she heard from behind her. She slowly turned around to see Reid standing there, holding a dozen roses. He had on black dress pants and a nice button up, his hair was combed and he looked so handsome to her.
"Spence," she whispered. She quickly walked over to him and wrapped her arms around his neck. She kissed his cheek and then let her arms fall to her side.
"We wanted to give you that dinner, we promised you you know."
"Here? At the FBI building?" Amber asked.
"No at my house, " Rossi chimed in
"You mean your mansion," Amber joked.
Rossi smiled, "Yes,"
There was a moment of silence as Amber took in the moment, being surrounded by the man she loved and his work family. It was weird for her, to have people in her life that cared about her. Her parents were always busy with their work and Dean, that they didn't have time for her when she was growing up.
"Well what are we doing standing around here? Let's go!" Hotchner boomed, breaking the silence. J.J, Morgan and Prentiss let out laughs of relief, they had not seen their boss this enthusiastic about something in quite sometime.
The two cars pulled up to Rossi's mansion. Amber's jaw dropped as she looked up at the house out of her window. The car came to a stop and Amber opened the car door, hopped out and was still awestruck at the mansion. Spencer stood next to her when he got out of the car, he put his hand on the small of her back and she froze. He had never touched her so intimately. He gave her a quick peck on the cheek and removed his hand from her. Rossi walked up next to Amber as she watched Spencer walk up the steps to the door.
"I can take those," Rossi said.
Amber's reaction was slowed, she was shaking. "Oh," she said slowly after about what seemed like hours. Amber slowly handed Rossi the flowers and he gladly took them from her. "Thank you," she said.
"You're welcome," he replied then headed up the steps.
Amber was not far behind them as they entered the mansion. Amber let out a small sad sigh. She had always dreamed of having a house like this. Amber walked over to Spencer, he was sitting down on a leather couch that was in the living room. She sat down next to him, Rossi opened the window that was adjacent to them, and a nice summer breeze blew in.
The rest of the team gathered in the kitchen, to watch Rossi cook. Amber and Reid decided to watch from afar, this was their first time alone together since returning from Texas.
"How was your day?" Spencer asked with a smirk.
"Oh, ha ha. Very funny Spence," She said as she shot him a glare.
Just then Amber's phone rang. She looked down at the screen, she saw the name and sighed to herself.
"What is it?" Spencer asked.
"It's Luke," Amber answered as she looked annoyed. The phone continued to buzz in her clenched hand, she tapped the ignore button and set it on the coffee table in front of them. "I just won't answer it,"
Spencer bit his lip, he thought for a moment then said,"Go ahead, call him back."
Amber hesitated for a moment, "Are you sure?" she nodded with a subtle smile. "Alright," She said as she stood up from the couch, grabbed the phone off the table and walked down the hall. Amber hit re-dial and put the phone to her ear. The other line rang, rang…
"Hello?" Luke answered.
"Hey Luke," Amber whispered.
"I'm guessing you saw that I called," Luke replied.
Amber swallowed, then answered, "Yes, and I was wondering why you called me," she demanded.
"Remember our agreement?"
Amber thought for a moment. Nothing. "Uh...not really?"
"You and I, coffee. So that you could stay in Texas longer?" Luke reminded.
Shit. Amber thought to herself. She was hoping he forgot about that. "Right,"
"So, tomorrow, meet me at the coffee place next to the store, 8 AM."
"I'll be there," Amber said through gritted teeth.
"Great," Luke said, "I'll see you then, beautiful," And with that the line went dead.
Amber hit END on her phone, and walked back to the couch. She felt like she was going to puke. He knew she was with Spencer, so why would he say that. He better not try anything tomorrow.
"Amber?" Spencer asked.
Amber looked up at him. "Yeah?"
"Are you okay?"
Amber nodded. "Yeah," She responded as she clutched her phone in her hand. "I'm fine." she smiled.
Spencer knew something was up, he could tell she wasn't telling him something. He decided to let it go, for now.
