Summary: She was always good at hiding. Hiding objects, people, herself and her emotions. Hiding her emotions to the extent that even she couldn't realize them. She preferred it this way, because this way she never needed to tell people everything and more importantly, trust them. He was always a bit ahead of everyone, running from his emotions. Busy with his work, his training, his duties, he hardly ever had time to think, let alone do simple things such as smiling, laughing, having fun and enjoying life. When these two crash, and are forced to trust each other when faced against a mutual enemy, will they manage? Or will they go down before that? Read to find out...
Chapter 8
Reader's P.O.V
"Hello, this is Tomoyo Daidouji speaking, how may I help you?" she said, as she answered the phone.
"Hi, Tomoyo? Is Sakura there? Can I talk to her?" Spoke up the worried voice Tomoyo recognized as Kinomoto Nadesiko's.
"No, aunty, isn't Sakura home?"
"She never returned last night, Tomoyo! I'm really worried! Can you do me a favor and ask all her other friends, if you're free, that is? It's just that, she's never done this before! Even her cell phone's switched off or something!"
"Sure thing, I'll ask everyone, and report back to you." Tomoyo replied, casually, though concern was evident in her voice.
Within 15 minutes, Tomoyo had called everyone whose house Sakura could be at, with a negative reply for each. Soon after that, Eriol came over, also bringing to her notice the fact that Syaoran had been missing too, since the blind date last night.
"Do you think they could have…" started Eriol, but Tomoyo cut him off, rambling on about 'how could he even think such a thing, Sakura would never do that, she isn't that stupid, no, no, no, no, no, NO!'
Just the fact that Tomoyo was rambling, proved how worried she was. Those two words did not go together.
--
"What to do, what should I do, I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!" yelled an extremely frustrated Tomoyo. She had been pacing for the past hour, and Eriol's eyes, which had been following her, were having a rest.
"Come on, Tomoyo! I'm sure she's fine, now stop worrying so much! Anyway, its 12:00 now just calm down for a second and eat something, after that if you want we can go look for her."
"It's 12:00? What is it…hum…I know there's something about that time…oh yeah! I promised to meet Sakura at the Oak tree at 12:15! We never, ever break Oak tree appointments. So she could be there, Eriol! Come on!" Without even waiting for an answer, Tomoyo grabbed a pair of flip-flops and ran out the door, and Eriol soon followed.

"Okay, we're here! But, Sakura isn't!" managed Eriol, panting hard.
"Oh, come one, however much Sakura's changed, she's still never ever actually early for anything, is she?"
"I heard that." Oh, yes. It was Sakura!
Lowering herself from the Oak tree, Sakura came down. Her hair was messed up, her face had scratches, but she was there.
"Sakura!! Where have you been! We've all been sooo worried! How could you just disappear?" I asked, or more like screamed at her.
"Well, yeah, sorry about that. We had to hide because someone tried to kill us."
I didn't notice she said we until later, because I was too busy comprehending the kill.
I blinked once.
Twice.
Thrice.
"WHAT!!"
Eriol's answer was just a bit more controlled. "REALLY!!" No, not like he was happy to hear it.
"Um. Yeah. Anyway, we couldn't come home, because come on, that's the first place they'd look for us, right? So, anyway, listen carefully, Tomoyo. I want you to go home, get freshened, eat something, make some lie up to tell my parents and Touya, do not call the police, don't tell anyone anything about us, and come here in two hours with Takashi and two of Jake's bikes. Oh, and please, please, take care. If you think it might be dangerous, DON'T COME, okay? Now go."
Oh, yeah. Now there's no doubt. Sakura has changed.
"Err, yeah sure I guess. But Sakura, just answer me, how the hell are you so…so organized in all this?"
"Trust me 'Moyo. I really, really wish I could tell you. But you're my best friend, and I really care about you. Now go. Please." The sad but determined look on her face stopped me from saying anything else, though I had a million questions to ask her. Eriol and I left, but just before she went out of sight, I looked back to see someone else descending the tree to join her. It was…
Li Syaoran?
--1 hour later--
"Yeah, yeah, meet there in an hour, Tak. Yeah, two of Jake's bikes. Can you do that? Thanks man, see yah." Ended Eriol, putting down the phone.
So, I've done most of what Sakura told me to do, but I still need to call Sakura's family, and tell them some lie. But what do I say? Not that she was at home with me at night, because they called me and she wasn't earlier. I suppose…
I picked up the phone, which had stopped my train of thoughts. "Hello, Tomoyo Daidouji speaking, how may I help?"
"Hello, Tomoyo? Did you ask around? Have you found Sakura?"
Oh, damn. Sakura's mom.
"Err…yeah I did. She spent the night at another friend's house, but she's here now and she wants to know if she can spend the night here."
"Oh, I don't know, I still have to talk to her about not telling us…"
"Right, but she met the friend at the…umm…park last night and she invited her over…and she couldn't tell you because…because she tripped and fell and landed right on her cell phone, you know how clumsy she is ohohoho, so it broke and then she couldn't remember anyone's number so she decided that she would just call today because it was late last night and she's over at my house right now and wants to know if she can spend the night so…can she?" I said, all in one breath. I hope she didn't hear the desperation in my voice.
"Err…yeah sure I suppose…but can I talk to her?"
"No! I mean, no sorry, she's having one of those long baths of hers and then we plan to go to the…the movies! Yeah!"
"Okay, then…umm…bye."
"G'bye, aunty!" I was so relieved this talk was finally over.
Eriol came up behind me, and wrapped his arms around my waist, his head resting on my shoulder.
"So the famous Daidouji can lie? This is definitely a day in a million, when I see her so worked up and flustered. You didn't even get close to this when I asked you out!"
"That's because I knew you were going to ask me, Eriol. I didn't know any of this was going to happen. But…but it's just so ironic how Sakura's the one in control, asking me to do all this stuff in this voice of hers, that I've never heard before, and I'm just…just running around like crazy trying to make sense of all this URGHH that's happening!"
"Don't worry, dear. Everything's going to be okay."
With a sigh, I agreed with him and went back into organizing everything Sakura told me to do, but this time in a more Tomoyo-ish fashion.
-- 1 hour later --
"Tomoyo! Thank you for coming!" came Sakura's voice, as if she had just invited me to a party. "Oh…and you've brought the bikes and Takashi! Good!"
"Well, of course I would Sakura. We're Best Friends, right?" However much I tried, I couldn't keep the slight sarcasm out of my voice.
"I know Tomoyo. This is why I can't tell you anything. I'm really, really sorry." Replied Sakura. Amazingly, she didn't try to hide her hurt expression.
With a sigh, I apologized. This really wasn't the time to be bickering over something stupid.
She smiled at me, before continuing. "Right, Tomoyo, I want you to tell Jake that he probably won't be getting his bike's back, but of course, we will pay for it." This was when I noticed Syaoran next to her. "We probably won't call you, but you know that secret language we made back when we were 8? If you get any letters in that, it'll be from me. Read those letters, it'll most probably have how we're doing, and then burn them."
"Err…Sakura, why are you talking as if you're going somewhere?"
"That's because we are, and this is how Takashi comes in. You know you're sister, in Hong Kong? We need her details, can you write it down and give it to us? You see, we've figured out that the man trying to kill us is only powerful in Japan, so if we reach Hong Kong, hopefully they won't be able to do too…well, flashy or dangerous things. Like…blowing up a building!"
"But…but doesn't Syaoran have a house there?" objected Takashi.
"Oh, come one, Tak. You don't think that's the first place they'll look?"
"Oh, yeah..."
"Sakura, you haven't mentioned the little…ahem…catch in supposedly easy plan." This was the first time Syaoran had said anything. Did it have to be something that sounds bad?
"It isn't that bad." Then, turning to us, she explained, "This…company is powerful in Japan, so they kind of have an influence over all the planes, boats and stuff. We have to find someone who'll take us to Hong Kong, isn't mixed in with that company and won't blab who we are if we tell him. Oh, yeah, and survive while doing that."
There was dead silence after that, for a few moments.
"What wrong?" said Sakura, innocently.
"What? What? WHAT!?" Sakura, you're just telling me that you're going to Hong Kong, by some, probably, illegal means, because you have some company chasing after you and trying to kill you, I have no idea why, and if you know, you aren't going to tell me. I don't want you to get hurt Sakura…just stay here and we can call the police and nothing will happen to any of us! Please Sakura; just, just stop saying all this stuff! It doesn't make sense!"I yelled at her.
"Tomoyo…" she took a deep breath, and then continued, in a hard voice, which took me aback, "You don't think that the police are involved with them? I'd stay if I could Tomoyo, this is my life! You think I want to leave it? But years ago, 8 years ago to be exact, I learnt that life isn't easy. Surviving? That isn't a new word to me; I've been doing it all my life. We all have…though maybe in different ways."
"No, No, No, No, No!" I screamed at her, sobbing now, putting my arms around her. "You can't leave, everything's going to be okay, and we're going to go on as normal, and…and…"
"Tomoyo...my cousin…my best friend." Gently pulling me off her, and handing me to Eriol, she grabbed the paper from Takashi's hand, in which he had written the details of his sister, while Sakura and I had this…talk...
She and Syaoran walked over to where the bikes were parked, and got on. Turning around, Sakura said to me, "Tomoyo, you're going to get older, be a great fashion designer, get married to Eriol, and have lots of my adorable little nieces and nephews." She started her bike, and Syaoran started his. "You're going to get on with your life, and one day, maybe you'll meet me. Or maybe you won't. Either way, always remember, 'Moyo, I will keep my promise, and we'll be friends forever." With a little wave from each of them, they were gone.
--Another hour later--
Not even a cricket was chirruping, it was so quiet. I was over at the Kinomoto house…ahem…mansion, and had just finished telling everyone what had happened. My tears had stopped a while ago, and I was in Eriol's arms, reliving everything that had happened.
"WHAT!" Touya recovered first, "I am going to KILL that MONSTER, AND THE BRAT SHE'S WITH! JUST YOU WA -"
"No Touya. Sit down." Spoke up Uncle Fujitaka, amazingly calm.
"But, dad she-"
"- Can take care of herself. We will respect her wishes. She will be okay…my Sakura will come back home, and we will live and get on with our lives because that is what she would wish us to do." Interrupted uncle, his voice cracking, but determined. Aunt Nadesiko was crying too hard to reply, and Uncle took her into his arms, while Touya stamped up to his room. I decided it was time to leave.
Outside, I snuggled closer to Eriol, and said to him, "Eriol, you know what?"
"Hmm…?"
"Uncle Fujitaka's right. We will respect Sakura's wishes."
"What, the part about making lots of adorable nieces and nephews?" he said, nuzzling my neck.
With that sentence, I laughed. However hard it was, I would get on with my life, even if I missed Sakura every single second. I knew I could do it. We all could.
Hehe, you like?! Next chapter will most probably have, you know, everything that happened since the gun shot and Tomoyo meeting Sakura! Longest chapter yet… Review pweeeze!
