Chapter 9
Reader's P.O.V
The sound of a gunshot cut her off.
Thinking fast, Syaoran grabbed Sakura's wrist and dragged her under the table. Expecting to see a terrified expression, he looked up to find that she had a slightly annoyed, but calm and calculating face. She pointed to a side of the room, and turning around to see where, Syaoran noticed a door saying KITCHEN.
Ignoring the screams and yells to 'call the police', they crouched down low and made their way slowly over to the door, trying to stay behind large objects, and not be seen. After what seemed like eternity, but was in fact just 2 minutes, they reached their exit. Just as Sakura reached out to open the door, the entrance to the room burst open and a man stepped inside, sweeping a gun in front of him, looking for his victims. Immediately, Sakura's hand shot back to her chest, and the two jumped behind a table.
Annoyed with a particular high-pitched screeching, the man holding the gun roared louder than everyone else, "Shut up! Everybody shut up! Get your hands behind your back and don't move! I won't hurt anyone," he grabbed a muffin of some random table, "unless of course I have to." He ended, in a sinister voice.
Using years of training, Syaoran grabbed hold of a pepper grinder, and finding an advantage when the man turned away from them, threw it shattering the windows on one side of the room, restarting the screaming. The grinder, and the gunshot, had caused there to be a hole in the glass at the side of the building, large enough for anyone in the room to go through. Disguising her voice as much as possible, Sakura shrieked in a shrill voice for everyone to run. Almost instantly, the people nearest to the window got up and ran out, many other people following them, their instincts to survive taking over.
This caused the special agent, which he was, to turn towards the source of disturbance, giving a chance for the two people targeted to open the door and run.
But, can the chase end yet? Nope, the man had sent the best agent, for he wanted the people dead, or better yet, unconscious but alive. Somehow singling out the sound of a door closing from all the different noises, he fired a warning shot, succeeding in cracking the ceiling and quieting everyone. He turned around in a full circle, looking for any doors. Besides the entrance from which he came, which was open, there were 2 more doors. One, behind the reception desk, and the other which said KITCHEN.
The muffin in his pocket long forgotten, he crept cautiously towards the door closer to him, which led to the kitchen, guessing the other to be a closet. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a couple of forks and knives flew out from behind a table and hit the man on the back of his head. Without even turning, he twisted his gun around and embedded a bullet in the culprit's leg. Facing the man he had just shot, he grinned with a wild glint in his eye, and said, "Never, ever try that again, my dear. I feel sorry for innocent people, so I didn't do a lot to you. Now I have to get back to my job."
Resuming his work, he opened the door to the kitchens, and looked around. Seeing another door there, he ran over to it, and opened it, finding it led to an alleyway. The two had escaped! Giving out a growl of annoyance, he started running out the alleyway, where he assumed they had gone; at the same time he flipped open a phone, pressed a few numbers and after waiting a few seconds, yelled that the subjects had escaped.
--
Giving a sigh of relief, Sakura wiped her forehead, now dripping with sweat. She inspected her surroundings; she and Syaoran were still in the alleyway, round a corner where there was a dead end. Instead of running towards the road and as far away from the restaurant as everyone would suspect they had done, they had hidden near it. Hide where they least suspect it, she remembered from her training, even if she didn't want to.
She turned around to face Syaoran, and found her face growing red on how close they were. Stumbling back slightly, she whispered, thankful that he couldn't see her blush in the dark, "Syaoran, what the hell just happened? What do we do now? We obviously can't go home, and…and who the heck were they!?"
One word, barely hearable, caused Sakura to freeze in fear and shock.
"Cobra."
Syaoran was the first who got his senses back, and whispered back to her, "Are you okay?"
Recovering, Sakura sighed and murmured back that she was okay. After thinking a few minutes. She said, "I know a place where they will never look, and Tomoyo will meet me there tomorrow, she might be able to do get some help. We can sit and think what to do there…"
"What? Are you crazy? We can't meet Tomoyo in some store, that's way too dangerous!" exclaimed Syaoran, as quietly as possible.
"Who said anything about a store? It's a tree."
"…"
"Yeah, a tree, now come on, before the police arrive! You know, if its cobra, the coppers will probably be in cahoots with that man." Silently, Syaoran followed the girl, thinking it was not the right time to be wondering how she knew Cobra.
--
After a whole lot of hiding, running, and climbing, the two had finally reached the park, without encountering anyone suspicious.
Jogging slightly, the two made it to a large Oak tree, and almost instantly, grabbed the branches and started mounting it. On the topmost branch, hidden by leaves and branches, so many that falling of was impossible, the two felt somewhat safe for the first time this evening.
Noticing Sakura shivering, Syaoran wrapped an arm around her. Surprised, Sakura twisted her neck to face him, but found his eyes closed and his back resting against the tree trunk. Too tired to protest, she closed her eyes and leant back onto Syaoran's chest, falling asleep soon, with a feeling of contentment.
--
Waking up to sounds of birds chirping, Syaoran opened his eyes to find himself on top of a tree, his arm around a sleeping Sakura. In a flash, everything came back to him. Shaking the sleeping girl slightly to wake her, he couldn't help but think of the term Sleeping Beauty, but shook his head clear of all that kind of thought. Their lives were in danger, for Gods sake!
As soon as she woke up, they started making a plan on how to get out of this predicament. Three sentences stuck in their minds, which formed the basic structure of their blueprints.
"I have 3 bikes, and I'm getting one more"
"My sister lives in Hong Kong"
"He's very powerful in Japan."
--
So that's the end of what happened in between … you know what happens next till the two leave to find a way to HK! Oh, and Syaoran still hasn't asked her about how she knows Cobra, but he might in the near future!
Stay tuned! And Revieeeeeeeeewwww!!
