Chapter 2: After the War

Canon Universe Harry POV

2001 April 16th

It had been four years since the end of the second war against Voldemort. Four years since Harry had killed the monster who had destroyed so many lifes. Too many. It may have been four years but he still couln't sleep well, he still had nightmares almost every night. The link, or whatever he shared with Voldemort was gone but he still was dreaming about the war. He could clearly remember the screams and the blood.

But he was happy. Happier than he ever thought he could be after all the death and the pain he had witnessed during the war. To tell the truth, after the war, after Ginny's death, he had a difficult time. Ginny had been killed two years ago, by Death Eaters trying to avenge their dead master. It had been really hard on him, Ginny was and always will be his true and only love. The two of them had gotten married six months prior to her death and although those six months were short, he had been the happiest man in the whole world. Waking up next to her,and sleeping by her side every nights. They had relearned to live without always having to be alert. When his wife died he lost once again a part of him. But life goes on, and after two years the wound of lost had mostly healed. Except for one minute every morning, when he opens his eyes and realizes that she is not next to him anymore. When Ginny was still alive, they had trained to be Auror. At the time, it seemed to be the good thing to do. Even if Voldemort was dead, most of the surviving Death Eaters had started to seek revenge. Harry would receives some threatening letters along with the appreciation letters from all around the wizardry world.

After Ginny's death, he had decided to get away from the world. It had been his late wife's dream to live in a little house, near the sea or in the countryside. A place where they could try to forget all the things they saw and all the things they did. It was not their war anymore and she used to say that, as the wife of the very famous Harry Potter, The Boy Who Lived and The Man Who Vanquished, she deserved some tranquility to raise her family. Ginny had lost two brothers during the war, Fred and Charlie and she wanted a big family full of redheads and green eyes. Harry also wanted a big family. Not anymore. This dream had died with his wife. Instead, he had escaped the world of fame his heroic acts bestowed upon him. He had built a little house in the hills between a muggle village and a lake. He hadn't use magic to build his house, he had built it with his own hands and the help of his friends.

Ron and Hermione had gotten married six months after the death of Voldemort. It had been a very happy day. Maybe the happiest day since the fall of Voldemort. Everyone was reunited to congratulate someone instead of mourning the loss of someone. Harry was the best man, and Ginny was the bridesmaid along with a pregnant Fleur. They drank, they danced, they spoke about the future, and this time no death eater attack interrupted the fest. People were starting to heal, and to dream again. Ginny had caught the bouquet and she had turn to Harry and winked. He chuckled at the memory of his bold wife.

At Ginny's death, none of the Weasley had blamed him. And they had gratefully accept his demand to bury her in the hills near his newly built house. Her gravestone was a simple black stone with a few words engraved:

Ginevra Potter

1981-1999

Beloved wife, daughter, sister and friend

Simple as the person she was. Even now, he visited her almost every day, telling her about his life and about the other people she knew. Ron and Hermione were visiting Harry at least once a week, not to check on him as they used to do back in school, but to enjoy the calm and the beauty of the place. During summer, they would even come for a couple weeks to enjoy the lake. They would often invite the Weasleys, Bill and Fleur had a daughter named Victoire and Percy got married to Penelope Clearwater. After two year George`s girlfriend Marilyn came along. Harry was glad that George had found someone, a great someone to help him after Fred`s death. He was very fond of Marilyn, she was a Hufflepuff, three years younger than George. She had not fought during the Hogwarts`s battle but she was now fighting to make the man she love smile again. And he admired her perseverance.

18 months after their wedding, Ron and Hermione had asked Harry to be the godfather of their first born son Hugo. He already had a godson Teddy, the son of Remus and Tonk. After Teddy`s parents death, he went to live with his grandmother, Andromeda Tonk, but he spend at least three weekends a month at Harry`s home. He really liked the little guy. Luckily, Teddy was not a werewolf although he had a particular love for meat and strange mood swings around the full moon but nothing too bad. He was almost five and was already showing a lot of promise: he took after his father`s power and was a metamorphmagus like his mother. Harry was almost certain that Teddy would go to Hufflepuff.

He loved Hugo, the same way he loved Teddy. Physically, Hugo was an exact replica of Ron, the same hair, same eyes, and acting the same around people… and surprisingly enough he already learned to say "Bloody" every five minutes. But, unlike Ron, he was a bookworm, just like his mother. Teddy and Hugo got along very well, becoming the best of friends in the world since the first day they met.

Harry especially liked summer times, when a lots of people came to his house and enjoyed swimming in the lake, doing BBQ and playing Quidditch. He liked how the group was growing year after year. But he also loved the place during winter, he loved the sound of the wind down the hills. And he loved being alone sometimes. Even if he was never truly alone. Hope was always by his side.

Hope Lily Potter was his daughter. She was not his biological daughter but his adoptive daughter. She was five, almost six years old and both of her parents had died in the war. Harry had first found her while he had been kidnapped by Voldemort during his horcruxes hunt. Between torture from Voldemort, who had understood that if he killed Harry he would kill a part of himself, Voldemort had locked Harry away in the same prison cell as the girl`s mother. Hope`s biological mother was a muggleborn witch, who had after Hogwarts decided to marry her childhood friend, a muggle. When Voldemort had taken over the ministry, she fled with her husband but got caught at the end. When Harry had been made prisoner, she was already their for more than a year. And she had a three months old baby with her. The mother had died shortly before he could rescue her.

FLASHBACK

"I know who you are." The voice came from the darkest part of their cell. They had been caged together for something like a month, it is really hard to keep a notion of time when you can't see the sun, and they hadn't talked once. He didn't even know her name. Or the baby's, if he had one. He didn't want to know. He didn't answer.

"I didn't believe you. I am sorry." The woman sighed. "I should have." It was a whisper now, as if the woman didn't have any strength left. Harry knew she was dying. She smelt like death.

"What?

- When you said he was back...I should have fled then. Now it's too late. My husband, Eric, is dead and I am dying." Something in her voice made Harry raise his head. He could almost hear despair in her voice. She didn`t want to live anymore.

"Will you do something for me Harry Potter?

-...

-Will you save my daughter? If someone can get out of here, it's you. I do believe in you now. It's not too late for Hope."

Hope. The word had echoed through his head. Hope. 'What a beautiful name' he thought.

"I...I don't know if I can...I mean a baby?said Harry.

-This cell ...She has only seen four cold black walls...Can you at least try?"she answered, begging him.

END OF FLASHBACK

He had taken Hope outside. May 14th It became the first day Hope ever saw the sky. He remember the moment he got out with the little girl in his arm. She had first closed her eyes, and winced. Then she had looked again, carefully, she had blinked and with teary eyes she had smiled. He came back after the war, but the girl`s mother was already gone. He didn't know what Death Eaters were doing with the corpses and he didn't really want to know.

Hope was already living with Harry and Ginny when they officially adopted her, one year after the end of the war. Since the day Harry had shown the sky to Hope, the girl had been following him like a shadow, a very cute shadow he had to say. At first the little girl had been very shy, not accepting people except Harry touching her and she started talking very late. He had even thought she was mute at first. But the girl was smart, and very curious of the world. He had spent hours explaining to her the name, and purpose of every object in the house, then the garden and the city. Ron was Hope`s godfather and Hermione was her godmother so Hope was spending a weekend a month at their house. Even if she got along very well with "Uncle Ron" and "Aunt Hermione" she always refused to spend the night without Harry for almost three years.

" DADDYYYYYYY!" his daughter`s voice rang in his hear and he grinned as he saw her running to him at full speed. Like every morning, they were out for a walk down the hills surrounding the house and like everyday Hope runs around and founds different things that interest her asks Harry about them. Sometimes it would be a flower she had never seen before, and sometimes it would be an insect.

"Daddy look what I found? Do you know what it is? "She was holding a white little flower in her hand. Harry carefully took it and looked at it but it was an unknown species for him. Herbology had never been his favorite subject.

"Don't know sweety. But why don't you write a letter to Uncle Nev to ask him when we get home?" She nodded and took his hand.

"Are we going to visit mum today?"

Review PLEASE ? I know the story is a little slow but it should be a little more active in the next chapters, who are already written and just need rereading so they should be up soon.
