Chapter Seven
Destruction
If the lone azure eyed wolf demon currently marching along the barren hillside boarding the human village below had to describe his mood in a single word, he would say disgusted would come closets.
Disgusted at no one else than himself. It was as if his life had been absolutely consumed with self hatred and sheer disbelief that he could be brought so devastatingly low!
All spiraling around a single human girl that he seemed to be incapable of keeping his damn hands off of!
Though it was obvious she hadn't felt the same. Since that night at the hot springs when they had lost themselves for whatever reason in each others arms and shared one brief unbelievable kiss. That Kouga wished with every fiber of his being he could take back!
Kagome had been doing her damnedest to avoid him altogether. In fact since returning to Kaede's village yesterday the currently absent priestess hadn't so much glanced in his direction. Not that he could blame her.
He could still practically feel her shove herself out of his arms like she had that night. Whispering nothing than she was 'sorry' as if she had something to apologize for. He had been the one after all who had started this nightmare of a situation.
It sicken him to admit it especially considering what they both had to lose. But, he just couldn't stop himself. As horrible as it was, he still wanted her!
Feeling her in his arms, feeling they way her perfectly full and sweet tasting lips and merged together with his own just felt so incredibly right!
Kouga groaned out loud in sheer frustration stomping forward over the slope of one of the nearest hill. He couldn't overcome the urges taking over him, no matter how wrong he knew they were! He just couldn't.
But that didn't mean he was all so willing to give into them either. His shoulder was healing slowly but steadily and soon enough he knew he would be fit for travel.
That above all else is what he needed. He had to have distance! He was almost certain returning to the eastern mountain like he had been planning for days now would undoubtedly help the situation he was in!
It might not slake the want building inside him but it would defiantly keep him from acting on it knowing Kagome was hundreds of miles away.
All he needed was a little more time and he would put all this chaos behind him! It was for the best. Kagome had obviously made it clear she wanted the same thing, with her constant avoidance.
Bringing Kouga out of his thoughts even just temporary he paused in his hard steps along the hill side to glance at the kneeling figure he had only noticed lay ahead of him.
Turing to face the silent wolf demon a pair of surprised brown orbs caught sight of him, then smiled politely.
"Oh hello Kouga." Sango smiled tucking the load of freshly washed linen into the woven basket at her feet.
Kouga glanced over the demons slayer shoulder to the narrow stream cutting through the once lush greenery. Apparently he had wandered into one of the local washing spots for the not to distant village.
"Hey," Kouga nodded. Well this was awkward. Here he had been seeking solitude and had unintentionally ran right into Kagome's best friend.
"You're looking well." Sango started tucking the deep and slightly weathered basket under her kimono lined arm.
"How is your wound?" She asked glancing down to Kouga's slightly concealing steel armor chest plate.
"Better." Kouga replied flatly. Before hearing a silent muffled cry coming from the vicinity of Sango's shadow.
His usually fierce blue eyes widening a bit in surprise only now realizing aside from the basket in hand Sango also had her infant son strapped to her back undoubtedly asleep.
"Do you need some help?" He instinctively asked. Carrying human laundry back to the village he was currently trying to avoid didn't seem ideal but he would do anything at this point to escape his own head.
"Oh I'm fine." Sango replied a little surprised by the usually bruiting wolf demons offer.
"Then I'll leave you alone." Kouga nodded respectfully. So much for that idea, things were never that easy for him were they?
"Um Kouga-" Sango started watching as Kouga paused in turning away no doubt to venture further out away from the village.
"If your recovery has been going well. I suspect you'll be heading home soon?" She asked curiously.
Kouga arched a brow. Kagome wasn't the only one growing tired of his presence among the village was she?
"When the weather lightens up. Yes I will." Kouga admitted, knowing he was one bright sunshine filled day away from his homeland.
"I see." Sango whispered taking a step forward peering down at her laundry basket almost as if she didn't want to hold the wolf demons bright gaze for what she was about to say next.
"How does Kagome feel about that?" The demon slayer asked lightly and for the briefest of moments Kouga could have sworn he saw some sort of knowledgeable lingering gleam flash across her eyes.
Instantly Kouga felt the color drain from his face and his entire body tense. This couldn't be happening.
"She told you?" He asked bluntly not bothering to tip toe around the subject that clearly had just been brought up.
This couldn't be any worse! If the incident that had happened between him and Kagome became public there was no way in hell to contain the disaster that would implode on both their parts!
Word would spread like wildfire and it would burn not only both of them but all they cared about alive!
"She didn't have too. I knew the moment you two returned to the village. The only thing I don't understand was what exactly happened. Did you-" She confessed still able to recall clear as day, the look of guilt and unease written on both their faces the moment she had met them at the village border to welcome them home.
"No!" Kouga cut her off sharply, that was the last thing he needed spreading! He could hear the rumor now, that the kiss they had shared had grown into something much more sinfully erotic!
"We-" He started unable to force the words to leave his parted lips, "Some other stuff happened." He admitted, coming as close to the truth as he would.
Sango sighed heavily. This couldn't be any worse of a situation. What was Inuyasha going to think when he returned to the village? Not that she would ever say a word to the half demon without Kagome's full consent! But secrets like this had a tendency to come out. No matter how good the damage control.
"You do realize how serious this is?" Sango asked coldly. What a mess the wolf demon before her had created.
"Yes. And I don't need to be reminded." Kouga growled struggling to restrain his growing temper. He wasn't a child. He didn't need to be confronted or scolded for his actions. Especially by some human he barely knew.
He knew the implications of his actions and he would take full responsibility if the situation got any worse.
"I'm not trying to pry into your business Kouga. But, I am trying to look out for Kagome. And what's best for her." Sango said calmly. She didn't want to play an active role in what was happening but she did want to help her best friend in any way she could.
"Which would be what? The mutt?" Kouga snapped. That damn half breed was just as much to blame in this mess of a scenario as he was!
If he had never left Kagome alone for the entire winter to begin with! None of this hell would have ever happened!
"No." Sango stated firmly, this wasn't about their relationship or anyone's for that matter. That wasn't the point she was trying to make.
"What's best for Kagome is you don't leave without some sort of closer." She said coldly. She didn't want to see her friend hurt in any way and she knew if the wolf demon fled back home without so much as a word of explanation she undoubtedly would be.
"What happened or is happening between the two of you. Don't leave it like this. You owe her that much." Sango finished gauging the now silent wolf demon before hers reaction.
Kouga could see her determination and unmistakably he admired her for it. Say what you will about the demon slayer. She was a very loyal friend.
Kouga nodded in agreement. Before he left for home, he would do all he could to make things right between him and Kagome.
Seeing his silent commitment Sango smiled appreciatively.
"Good. Then I will hopefully see you around." She said confidentially before marching past the silent wolf demon and up the hill side out of sight.
Kouga sighed defeated. Well it looked like everything he was trying to avoid facing was about to come charging full force, much sooner than expected.
His only hope was that after the dust settled, he would still be left standing.
Could this plan been anymore pointless? Or that's at least the thought that kept crossing Inuyasha's mind over and over again.
It had felt like days that he had been planted her in the snow fields just outside the village rim. Even though in truth he knew it had only been a few hours a best.
Though that fact didn't help him feel any less stiff and frozen from the cold constantly assaulting him.
All this misery was the monks fault! And the half demon currently almost buried in snow would have his revenge for such a stupid plot!
Sit and wait to see, or rather hear if any of Yokobue presences could be discovered trying to lure any other unsuspecting villagers away.
It was the second night in a row he had followed through with Miroku's seemingly pointless plan and still nothing had happened for their benefit.
No villagers, no demon, no anything besides raging cold and pitch black darkness.
Inuyasha huffed out a heated cloud of breath in frustration. Why had he even agreed to come here? Sure it was the 'right' thing but his good intentions weren't keeping him warm right now were they?
What he wouldn't give to be back home. Just for an hour or two. It seemed like the one thing he had ever wanted since going on this damn 'adventure'.
But what was the point on wishing for something that obviously wasn't going to come true anytime soon.
Just when the thought crossed his mind that he should abandon this fruitless mission altogether the light crunching of not to distant snow snapped him from his thoughts.
Peering a narrow amber eye in the direction the sound carried from he spotted something totally unexpected.
There only a few yards away marching forward through the deep undisturbed snow and lone white wolf stood glancing towards him.
Inuyasha felt a surprised expression mask over his usually harden appearance. What the hell was a wolf doing all the way down here in the mountain valley? Weren't they usually cave dwellers, or that had been his experience in the past.
What made him feel even more slightly uneasy, was this certain wolf brought forth a feeling of familiarity. Almost like he had once seen it before.
But before he could place the memory slowing rising to the surface within him he watched as the noble creature turned from him and disappeared back into the darkness.
Inuyasha fought the urge to follow unsure of what would be the purpose for a long no doubt drawn out chase would lead too.
Instead he let the beast go, fading from sight. But, defiantly not out of mind.
Maybe this night hadn't been totally pointless after all. He would have to find Miroku and discuss what their next move should be.
Possibly something just might come from this small piece of information. And that would be the one thing he needed to bring him closer to what he desired most...home.
The air was still but no less frigid with the lasting linger of cold clinging to every gust that swept through the border of the distant village.
The night was calm, but troubling at the same time. Almost as if the midnight weather was one cool shift from causing a raging blizzard.
It couldn't have matched the slowly approaching wolf demons mood more perfectly. Each step mentally preparing himself for what was about to come full circle.
It had taken him all day to work up the nerve to finally face the priestess who now at this exact moment sat only a few feet from where he currently stepped.
He regretted avoiding it as long as he had but then again Kagome hadn't made it exactly easy. Obviously she had been doing her absolute best to a dodge him altogether. Either by working along side the elder villagers or burying herself in chores she knew he wouldn't dream of interrupting.
Medicine being the most potent that kept him repelled with their irritating scent.
But, now here she was finally off guard and unable to run away. As long as he was direct with what he had to say he was almost sure they could set this aside, at least for the time being.
His feelings and desperate wants aside he didn't like the way things were now. The way she turned away every time she caught his gaze, though it pained him to admit it, it hurt feeling so distant from her.
Not just for the physical reasons but the internal ones. He considered Kagome more than a desire, she was also a friend. A very close, important friend.
Taking a deep breath and closing the distance between him and the unaware priestess now inches before him he finally broke the silence.
"Kagome," He breathed, instantly causing the clearly surprised raven haired woman to tense. Before turning her deep hazel eyes to gaze in his direction.
"Kouga." She whispered clearly on edge at the sudden intrusion. "What are you doing out here?"
"I needed some air," He shrugged half heartedly, he might as well start off with a little piece of the truth before diving head first into the real unease between them.
"Oh well I wont disturb you." Kagome dipped her head lowly before climbing to her feet obviously eager to once again put some much needed distance between her and the wolf demon watching her go.
"I actually wanted to see you. To talk." Kouga corrected, clearly she wasn't going to make this easy on him.
Kagome stopped in her sandal covered tracks. Her back now firmly turned to the staring wolf demon in her shadow.
"About?" She whispered almost coldly.
Kouga ran a nervous hand through his raven locks palming his thick bangs as he tried to ease the uncomfortable amount of tension now rising between them.
"I think you already know." He said evenly.
Kagome visibly tensed at his words and her evading behavior once again began to take over.
"I have to go-" She began sharply already stepping forward in effort to distant herself from this entire situation.
"Kagome. You can't just keep avoiding me." Kouga began angrily. Did she honestly think this scenario could be solved by running away? Even if neither of them wanted to stand here and have it out, things needed to be said, and heard.
"That's not-" Kagome snapped spinning to face the wolf demon at her back. But the second her eyes met those impossibly blue orbs her frustration ebbed away and melted into confusion.
Confusion she knew had been seeded inside her ever since that night before they returned to the village. The night she had felt his body against hers and his lips seal to her own.
Just the memory made a shiver run up the length of her spine and made her stomach knot it growing restlessness.
"That's not what I'm trying to do." She whispered bowing her head in defeat unable to hold his piercing gaze a moment longer.
Why was this so hard? This uncertain. She never had a problem opening up to Kouga before, but of course it was that very trust that had landed her in theses nightmarish circumstances.
She didn't want things to be this way anymore than she was sure he did. She didn't want to avoid and dodge him at every turn. But it was the only thing she could think of to make this mess any better.
What else was she suppose to do? She was just so tangled. Tangled in the emotions that damn night had wound up inside her.
"Then what are you trying to do?" Kouga asked taking a daring step forward watching as Kagome fought the urge to stiffen at the closing distance between them.
"I'm trying to put some space between us. Things are-" She started, but Kouga could almost read her mind perfectly.
"Different?" He finished in a questioning way.
Kagome's large hazel eyes narrowed slightly. Different was a light way of saying what was building between them.
"Wrong." She corrected sharply.
Kouga sighed frustratedly before sinking down onto the snow spotted ground. His fierce azure eyes staring ahead coldly.
What could he possibly say to make Kagome see, that everything she was feeling, everything she was mentally tormenting herself over, he was suffering right along side her?
"You think I don't know that?" He said calmly, cupping the back of his neck with a hard sigh.
For the first time Kagome could clearly see she wasn't alone in what she was currently suffering through. Kouga obviously had his own building mound of turmoil just beneath the surface.
But, was it for the reasons she thought it was? Ever since that night at the hot springs had happened, questions had begun to rage out of control within her. Trying to explain just what exactly was happening between them.
What was going through Kouga's mind? And what was making him act the way he had, or better yet what wasn't stopping him from pushing things?
"Kouga," She whispered. Watching as Kouga peered his narrow and bright azure eyes at her clearly troubled features.
"Why don't you ever talk about Ayame?" She asked, trying to fight the fresh wave of guilt that assaulted her once the absent wolf demoness name left her lips.
Kouga wouldn't deny he was surprised to hear such a question come from Kagome of all people, but he didn't physically show an ounce of emotion.
"What's to say? I'm here, she's not." He said sternly turning from her questioning stare.
"She's your mate. But, you never say her name. Why? Don't you miss her?" Kagome questioned taking a step shallow step forward.
As much as she wanted to explain her own brash actions away she had an idea of why she had acted as she had. Being separated from Inuyasha, and having all these unexpressed feelings lingering inside her were bound to come out in one way or the other.
And obviously she was manifesting them into her own feeling for Kouga. But, was he doing the same? Using her as a surrogate to his absent mate? And if not then what was he possibly thinking?
Kouga didn't respond only stared ahead behind an emotionless mask. What would be the point in explaining his own feelings when they definitely wouldn't do any good, especially now.
He cared for Ayame, and sure he did miss her, but not the way a real mate should.
Most mated wolf demons would be beside themselves with grief over the absence of their other half. And yet here he was, consumed with want for the human girl beside him. It was unbelievably selfish he knew that. But as much as he wanted an answer. He didn't know why, he felt the way he did. Maybe he was just heartless, a monster.
"You don't." Kagome whispered unable to contain the hint of sadness that laced its way through her words.
"Then why are you together? I thought wolf demons mated for life?" Kagome asked accusingly. Even though it seemed like a lifetime ago she could clearly remembering Kouga saying those exact words to her once before.
"It's complicated." Kouga confessed not daring to meet her harden gaze.
Kagome sighed tiredly. Nothing going on inside Kouga could possibly be harder to understand than what was currently developing between them.
Pulling her knees to her chest Kagome sat beside the equally as drained wolf demon in exhaustion. Feeling the way she did, it was just so overwhelming.
"It can't be complicated than this." Kagome whispered resting her chin on her tucked knees. What a mess the two of them were in. It honestly felt like no one could possibly comprehend that amount of guilt/confusion rampaging its way through her.
Well maybe no one, but the wolf at her side.
Kouga stared ahead to the dark icy fields ahead of him. Watching as the snow illuminated with the thin rays of silvery moonlight penetrating through the thick black clouds overhead.
"I don't love Ayame, the way she loves me." He whispered emotionlessly.
Kagome felt her posture instantly straighten as her eyes fixated on the wolf at her side. Had she honestly just heard him right?
Kouga didn't seem to notice or mind her now disbelieving glare.
"When wolf demons find their mate. Their one true mate. The feeling, its-" Kouga struggled to find the words to describe such a deeply rooted bond, it was as sacred and old as their very kind. Maybe older.
"Its indescribable. They become your air. Whenever their not around its like you can't even breathe." Kouga paused thinking back to all the times he heard other mated demons express their connection to their mate.
Kagome listened intensely. Hearing him express those words. It seemed it would bring joy to anyone to know that kind of love and devotion belonged to them. But to here it from him, it sounded almost heartbreaking. Like he was incapable of feeling the very things he was describing.
"I know Ayame feels that way towards me." Kouga breathed deeply. He never realized just how heavy admitting these things out loud would weigh on his conscience.
"But, you don't feel the same way?" Kagome whispered only now realizing she was on the verge of tears. How could Kouga be so cold? How could he of all people reject someone's heart the way he was?
"My feelings towards Ayame," Kouga hesitated before forcing himself to continue all the while never daring to gaze in Kagome's direction.
"I would die for her. If I had too," He swore with unshakably certainty. "But it would be out of obligation. Not devotion."
Maybe he really was a heartless bastard. He certainly felt like one actually admitting these things to another person other than himself.
But he knew the pillar that had held his and Ayame's relationship up all this time was the treaty their arrangement had been based off of. It had brought his land peace and fruitfulness.
And honestly Kouga knew the day they mated he didn't feel that pull. That absolute dedication to her they way he should. But he forced himself to remain silent.
Honestly in time he believed he could force himself to love her. Why shouldn't he? She was everything a wolf demon should want. But, for whatever reason, he just didn't.
"That's so cruel Kouga." Kagome whispered unable to contain herself a moment longer. A hot tear cutting a glimmering line down her heated cheek.
Kouga turned to her watching as her hazel orbs lit up with burning anger and disbelief. He had never seen that look in her eyes before.
"How can you lead her one that way? To toy with her emotions like that, her love. It's-" Kagome hissed her words now laced with venom.
"Just like the mutt?" Kouga finished. Not bothering to look away as his own harden azure gaze met her bleary orbs.
Kagome felt her anger ebb away only briefly enough to be replaced with absolute shock. What did he just say?
"I may be a cold bastard Kagome. But, Inuyasha is no better. Look what he's done to you." Kouga growled low and dangerous.
Kagome felt her spritual energy surge with uncontrollable rage! How dare Kouga think he knew the first thing about her and Inuyasha's relationship! He knew nothing! Absolutely nothing!
"You don't know what you are talking about!" Kagome snapped! Clawing her way to her feet about to storm away in sheer fear she might actually physically harm Kouga if she didn't!
Growing danger aside Kouga didn't hesitate for a moment! No! Kagome was going to hear what he had to say! Even if he had to force her!
Inhumanly fast Kouga grabbed Kagome's flailing wrist pulling her back down to his chest in an inescapable hold.
Kagome thrashed against him angrily! How dare he touch her!
"I don't?" Kouga growled furiously despite Kagome's struggling he took hold of the part of her kimono tearing the material downward harshly!
Kagome gasped as her clothing was torn away until her bare shoulders and the milky valley of her cleavage was exposed between them.
"Stop!" Kagome cried feeling as countless tears began to run down her flushed face. Why was he doing this? Why did he want to hurt her?
Kouga held her more tightly grasping her chin in his hand forcing her to look up at him as he took in the sight of her partially exposed form.
"Inuyasha hasn't touched you Kagome! After all this time? Is that love?" He roared making her witness as he glared down at her unmarked shoulder.
"Let me go!" Kagome sobbed shaking her head from side to side in effort to pull free but Kouga held her still.
This was just too much! Her most intimate secret was now bare between them. Kouga knew her deepest shame. That the man she loved and desperately wanted him to love her in return. Had never so much caressed her with a hint of affection.
She was untouched, she was unmarked, and it killed her inside.
"A real man would never make you want like this! I can see it in you. Even now. The longing." Kouga began harshly making her look up at him as his words sunk into her with their heated lingering trace.
"If you were mine. I would never make you feel this way. I would make love you Kagome. Every single day and every night!" Kouga vowed pulling her tighter to him.
Forcing her so close that their noses skimmed against one another's. And Kagome could easily feel the heated huffs of his uneven breaths.
Kagome gasped as she felt the last of her tears stream down from her hazel orbs as she took in the sight of Kouga's illuminating azure eyes.
They were filled with such want, such down right carnal need it took her breath away. How could anyone possibly have that much desire for her? Visibly crave her that badly?
"Kouga?" Kagome whispered brokenly.
Whatever she might had said next died in her throat as Kouga silenced her with a bruising kiss!
She tasted so damn sweet! Just as she had that night in the hot springs. But unlike that night he had no intention of holding back.
To hell with everything thing else that was raging inside him! He wanted Kagome, and nothing else. He would gladly face the consequences of his blind and selfish choices once he had showered Kagome with all the passion and love he knew she desperately craved.
Hungrily his tongue invaded her mouth. Savoring her taste and wanting to memorize every inch of her sweet cavern.
Kagome moaned into his mouth and greedily he swallowed it down. How long had he railed against what his body clearly was burning to have? Wanting to preserve what little dignity he had left he had forced himself to seed this fire inside him.
But now it was blazing out of control and threatening to burn him alive!
The hand gripping onto her now wrinkled kimono sleeve released, before it began to cascade downward towards her neck, then her collarbone, shoving the bunched fabric of her top down further.
To reveal the full roundness of her breast almost to the point of showing her now doubt untouched distended nipples.
Reluctantly Kouga broke the kiss between them desperate for air that he now realized they both needed. His lips quickly descending to the column of her neck, kissing and licking hot pressurized circles into her smooth skin.
Kagome bit down onto her full bottom lip to stifle a moan of sheer bliss. Having him touch her this way, it scorched all thoughts she might have had of stopping away. Blinding her with any wrong doing with the absolute new and overwhelming sensation beginning to build inside her.
Her hands clung to his sculpted arms, desperate to hold onto anything that would anchor her down from the heights of pleasure he was currently taking her too.
The hand threatening to reveal her breast vanished momentarily before fisting into her raven locks making her gasp in both pain and pulsating pleasure.
Kouga was being so rough, so animalistic, so absolutely male! It was just so dizzying to have him be so unrestrained with her!
Kouga's lips found hers again only briefly enough to whisper her name against them before descending lower to her collar.
Kagome was so naïvely unsure of his intentions, feeling him kiss over her skin as his fingers inched her already barely shielding clothing down impossibly further.
Then with one hard pull the garment was parted fully, leaving her breast naked and bare for them both to see.
Kagome felt her cheeks flame with embarrassment and burning shame as her body was revealed to the wolf demon holding her. Her uneven breaths causing her large flawless orbs to heave with every ragged intake.
She wanted to cross her arms over her, shield her naked skin but Kouga held her to tightly and she was left helpless in his arms.
Kouga couldn't believe the sight, her perfect orbs just as flawless and tempting as they had been the night he had seen her fully exposed in the hot springs.
They were large, larger than most other woman he had been with. But, subtle and creamy centered around harden pink pearls that Kouga knew he would enjoy taking into his mouth. Just the thought made him pulsate with raw want.
Kagome couldn't believe this was actually happening. Why was she letting this happen? Why wasn't she stopping this when it began? Better yet, why didn't she want to stop at all?
Everything Kouga was doing to her up into this point had just driven her further into madness. Madness of wanting him like she could never remember wanting anyone in her life.
She was on fire with the flames of passion that he had created and she would do or say anything just to have them extinguished altogether.
It was like the outside world and its responsibilities didn't exist anymore. That it had all just burned away leaving nothing but their wants and desires in its wake.
It was wrong, it was down right selfish and bordering on evil to be this cold to what they knew would only bring pain to others who found out. But, she just couldn't stop.
She wanted this, she wanted him.
Tearing Kagome from her scattered thoughts she felt as Kouga's mouth hungrily engulfed her distended pearl.
Her head fell back in a loud unrestrained cry, so loudly it echoed over the barren snow spotted hill side. Never before had she felt something so erotic surge through her, it made something inside her clench and steal the very breath from her lungs.
Kouga licked and sucked the no doubt swollen bud, causing jolt after jolt of blissful sensation to shoot down her spine.
Kagome's head was spinning Kouga's mouth and hands seemed to be everywhere! Sucking her breast, massaging her thighs, gripping her hair, biting and licking her skin so damn carnally. It almost felt like she would fall apart right here. Like one more overwhelming sensation would be all it took to shove her over the edge of something dark and forbidden.
As if sensing her growing need, inhuman fast Kouga grasped both of her concealed thighs maneuvering her into his lap with ease.
Kagome gasped as she was suddenly able to feel their most intimate places press against one another's. The physical effect of what was transpiring between them capable of being felt even through Kouga's fur pelt and her crimson attire.
He continued to kiss her roughly, and Kagome hands fisted in his raven locks running her fingers through his untangled hair until it was messed and wild in it's still high rise ponytail.
Flicking his tongue playfully over the swollen bud still in his hot mouth, shot another pulse into her core making her arch against him!
Then with a wet pop he released her aching breast and began to kiss down her stomach watching as she shivered when his tongue played over her milky skin.
Then his calloused hand slid down the flat plain of her stomach to the rim of her hakama's hooking a lone finger around the waistband and awaiting just one word of approval to rid her of the garment altogether.
"Kagome?" Kouga rasped unevenly straining to hold himself back from continuing with or without her permission.
For the first time since they began her eyes actually met his and he could see what they had done had an actual lasting impact on the priestess panting in his arms.
Her once bright hazel orbs were now a dark impossible shade of chocolate. Heavily clouded with hazy and obvious lust.
He was sure his own fiercely azure eyes would match the contrast but he was still in total control.
Kagome was so unsure. She wanted more, there was no possibility of denying that at this point, but she wasn't sure if she was ready to go this far.
Did she want Kouga take her? Here? It just didn't seem right for dozens of reasons she wouldn't begin to name.
She looked at him and wanted to protest finally gaining just a little bit of clarity on the situation she was now in. But, she could feel actual agreeance burn on her tongue.
She honestly didn't know what she was about to say. Was she ready to give Kouga something she had saved and held precious for so long? Or would she reject him like her conscience was screaming at her to do?
Unfortunately, she would never know the answer.
It was brief no more than a second or two. But, she saw something flicker on the horizon behind where Kouga sat.
Looking past him she eyed it again only this time she finally realized what the illuminating glow was.
Black smoke and raging embers flew into the night sky. Lighting up the darkness with rising flames its source centered at the valley of the hillsides.
Kagome felt horror spread over her face.
Then a massive explosion boomed out from the far corner of the field sending a heavy tremor rocking through the ground beneath them.
"The village!" She screamed clawing her way from Kouga's grasp and onto her feet.
Kouga immediately did the same unsure of what was happening until the unmistakable scent of fire and gunpowder filled his nostrils.
Blatantly forgetting what had just transpired between them Kagome sprinted forward her clothing already neatly back in place as she ran into the direction of the raging inferno consuming her home.
"Kagome!" Kouga called after her already on her heels his azure eyes filling with the reflection of the roaring flames burning up the village ahead of them.
He didn't understand! He hadn't smelled a demon near by, still couldn't! What the hell was happening!?
He didn't know, but there was a sickening realization building inside him that he soon would find out.
It was so cold. But, it wasn't from the currently plummeting temperature outside the northern mountain caves.
It was the feeling of incompleteness eating away at the shivering female wolf demon laying in the depths of her stone chamber.
Ayame clung to her fur pelts as she laid beside the dying fire watching as the rich oranges of the flames began to fade into a dimming a blue.
For the briefest of moments the hue of the flames actually matched the azure orbs she had come to love more than words could describe. Love and miss like a very fragment of her soul wasn't present without them.
This winter had been so brutal, in so many ways than just one. If it weren't for the constant support of her friends and grandfather she was sure she wouldn't have been able to fight through it all.
Though it was times like these, that were the hardest of all. The lonely night of returning to her empty cave and wishing with everything in her she could force herself to fall asleep just for a few moments of empty relief while she dreamt.
Dreamt of the east, the warmth, the valleys and the towering mountains, the endless blue sky and above all else, of her mate. Of Kouga.
What she wouldn't give, what she wouldn't part with just to see his handsome face for the smallest of moments.
Unwillingly she felt a warm tear cut a sharp line down her cool cheek before she brushed it away. Tears would be useless right now, she had to remain strong. It would be what Kouga wanted.
He would want her to be strong. Like he was.
Silently bringing her from her thoughts she watched as a large shadow invaded her chamber before framing itself in her cavern entrance.
Soft white fur and beaming yellow eyes were the first to meet her gaze.
Ayame smiled weakly as one of the dozens of white wolves that called her master trotted to her side.
"Where have you been all day?" She whispered patting its massive head until it laid lazily at her side.
Ayame was grateful for the company snuggling into its thick white fur with a soft sigh. Having her wolves care for her as they had helped fill the void, even if it was only partial.
The wolf gruffed and rumbled incoherent words to the human ears but Ayame heard every syllable clearly.
"The valley?" She whispered petting it softly "Why would you go down there?"
It growled lowly nuzzling into her heated palm as she began to scratch behind its pointed ears.
"You smelled a demon? It's not uncommon. Lots are coming down from the mountain. They can't take the cold." She whispered into its muzzle as she kissed it sweetly.
She was grateful her underlength had made it back to the peak safely. Going down the valley floor wasn't an easy thing to do at this time of year.
The tilted its head slightly before rasping through its nostrils in clear protest.
"It wasn't a demon?" She blinked, this wasn't making sense.
"A demon. But, not a demon." She blinked. The wolf met her slightly confused jade eyes before grunting and whining and instantly he watched as his masters facial features turned to disbelief.
"A half demon?" She whispered.
Then slowly the last of her dying fire, burned out.
Blinding smoke and flying embers burned Kagome's hazel eyes as she cut through the surging and panicked crowd raging against her.
Every villagers rampaging through the narrow streets in a desperate attempt to flee from some unknown source of danger.
She didn't understand even now with all the chaos swirling around her she still was unable to sense a demonic presence. What was doing this to her home? What was setting theses raging fires and making the very earth seem to tremble?
Kagome thought she would never know until finally she was able to see only partially through the still stampeding mass of people shoving against her.
Sango stood at the far end of the blazing street unarmored and unprotected with only her massive bone boomeranged strapped to her back. Warding off incoherent figures.
Kagome couldn't see through this consuming smoke! Who or what were these things attacking them?
Then her question was answer with the a momentary break in the swirling black cloud engulfing them.
Rustic armored clothed men stood riddled throughout the streets. Their skin marred with dirt and grime as they kicked in doors and broke into barely standing huts along the village loading whatever goods they found onto their waiting horses.
Kagome couldn't believe this! Bandits!? That was the cause of all this destruction? But what was causing the tremors she had felt before?
Then she watched as one lead man. Much larger than all the rest tossed a small ball lined with a glimmering fuse in the direction of where Sango stood.
"An explosive!" Kagome cried out loud.
"Sango!" She screamed over the chaotic crowd of people keeping her trapped helplessly among them.
Kagome's ringing warning reached her best friend only enough to alert her of the almost detonating bomb now at her feet, but not enough time to avoid it! Desperately Sango braced the Hiraikotsu between her and the explosion before it blew!
The ground shook violently as a blinding gust of fresh smoke and blazing fire erupted around them all. Kagome sealed her eyes tightly shut trying to overcome the deafening ring lasting in her ears. But it was so disorienting, she couldn't see, she couldn't hear!
Bracing herself up from the soot covered ground she now realized she was laying on top of she tried to climb to her feet. Finding her body battered and weak from the aftershock she had just experienced.
Much of the crowd surrounding her doing the same. Those who were able to stand still fearfully trying to get away.
Kagome clawed herself upward. Her hazel eyes staring ahead in horror as to what she might see among the chaos still blazing around them.
She felt her heart stop mid beat in her chest at the sight.
Sango laid limp and motionless against one of the decaying huts. The large shielding mound of her boomerang laid by her feet visibly smoking from the impact it had just absorbed.
"Oh no! Sango!" Kagome cried desperately trying to reach her clearly injured and unconscious friend.
But then a sharp shooting pain radiated its way from her knee all the way to her hip sending her back face first into the stained ground.
Kagome gasped, something was undoubtedly broken inside her. But she wouldn't stop! She had to reach Sango! Grasping her injured leg she forced herself back onto her feet ignoring the searing pain that followed as she limped weakly forward.
Only adding to her panic she watched as both the small figures of Mi and Sa emerged from the shadows of the burning huts confusion and sheer terror on their young faces as they ran to their mother's side.
Both fell to their knees beside her unmoving form grasping hold of her hand and shoulder and tugging as forcefully as they could.
"Mommy!" Mi cried pushing on her mothers shoulders.
"Mommy! Wake up! Wake up!" Sa sobbed visibly large tears falling from her horror filled eyes.
Kagome felt a hot tear cut down her ash stained cheek as she trudged ahead. She had to make it to them! She had to protect them!
Then instantly Kagome felt her tear stained eyes flood with terror as the unknowing twins were shadowed over by the larger of the bandits Kagome had seen before. The very one who had been lighting and distributing the devastating bombs!
His narrow and beady eyes fixed down on the small girls now helpless at his feet. His discolored teeth becoming exposed as he smiled maliciously down at them.
Then sickening Kagome saw as he reached for the chipped and rusted handle of his sword drawing the sharp blade mercilessly.
Kagome instinctively charged forward as fast as her injured leg would allow not caring if she tore herself apart in the process.
"Mi! Sa! Run! Get away!" She screamed terrifyingly at the duo of children kneeling helpless before the bandits sword.
But the girls were frozen in absolute fear. Staring up at the mad man glaring down at them in twisted enjoyment of their horror.
Helpless they clung to the unconscious body of their mother and watched as the bandit raised his blade. Readying for one swipe that he knew would end both their short lives.
"No!" Kagome cried! Knowing no matter what she did, she wouldn't make it to them in time.
Then a deafening scream of the defenseless girls rang out!
Holding each other tightly and tears streaming down their young faces as they waited for the blade to cut into their soft unprotected skin, But, moments ticked by and the pain never came.
Then timidly Mi peeked one bleary eye open to look up at the man still standing over them. Sa sensing her sisters actions did the same watching as the man who had just been smiling in victory now looked down at them in horror of his own.
Now standing behind the massive bandit Kouga lurked in his shadow. One clawed bronze hand wrapped tightly around the mans thick neck keeping him impossibly still as he lifted him into the night air. Doing so as if he weighed nothing at all.
"W-What the-" The bandit gasped as the air was being choked from his throat.
His words only made Kouga squeeze harder cutting off the last of his breath altogether and making his panic and fear filled eyes lodge out slightly in sheer strain.
Kouga savored the bastards fear like it was sheer nectar. Nothing felt so good as to punish those who deserved it.
Smilingly wickedly until his large pearl fangs over hung his bottom lip Kouga watched as the man began to thrash in his hold. Scratching at his hand in attempt to free himself clearly frantic and terrified.
"Pathetic." He whispered maliciously before flexing his other unclenched hand, the burning light from the lingering flames illuminating his claws in a deadly glow.
Then without a single trace of mercy he shoved his dagger like nails forward. Piercing through the chest armor of the bandit like a hot knife through butter.
Ripping through him until his fingers protruded out through his chest. His fingertips dripping fresh blood and spraying outwards until even a few drops landed on both Mi and Sa's tear stained cheeks.
Kouga watched as the bandits eyes rolled back in his head and his large body went absolutely limp as he was torn apart from the inside. And instantly Kouga knew, he was dead.
Feeling the life slip out of him Kouga released his impossible grip on the murderous human. Letting him fall to the cold ground like the dead weight he now was. Then turning towards his absolutely stunned and terror filled comrades who had been watching this horrid scene unfold.
"H-He killed the boss!" One shouted
"He's a demon!" Another cried out sending all remaining bandits into a panicked frenzy to desperately flee from the monster they had just discovered!
Kouga smirked to himself as he watched them scramble on to their horses before ridding as fast as they could away from the village! He always did like to give his prey a head start.
"You bastards aren't getting away!" He swore already taking a charging stance. He would catch them in seconds flat and make sure every single one of them begged and pleaded for their life's!
"Kouga!" A voice cried out and instantly he froze in place.
Turning only slightly enough to look over his shoulder he watched as Kagome made her way to her injured friends side. But, it wasn't her harden stare that kept him still.
No her eyes were fixed on the two girls staring at Kouga like he had never seen them stare before.
Instead of looks of appreciation or relief that they hadn't been killed the two small human girls he had come to know looked at him like he was the very monster he had saved them from.
"W-Wolfyman?" Mi whispered in sheer disbelief, and Sa visibly cowered behind her big sister now clinging to Kagome.
Kouga felt his chest tighten. Finally realizing the impact of what he had done. Watching as fresh tears filled their young eyes and began to leak out running with the blood he had unintentionally marred their faces with.
Horrified Kouga turned to Kagome who looked at him behind an emotionless mask. It was clear to him she didn't know what to feel at this very moment.
Bowing his head in order to avoid their lingering glances a moment more he turned from them. Taking whatever guilt, whatever weakens was building inside him and locking it all way.
He knew they saw him as a monster, and a monster was exactly what he was.
His fierce azure eyes fixed ahead turning into nothing but slits of pure rage and fixating on the trail the fleeing men had left behind.
Inwardly no matter how he might have truly felt, he forced himself to smile.
What else would a monster be good for? Besides hunting in the night and making sure, come morning the very forest reeked of nothing but absolute blood.
Oh Kouga! Tsk! Tsk! Killing bad guys wont make you feel better! Didn't you learn that in "Dark Side Of The Moon"? Those of you who read my other works get the reference lol
