A/N: Third chapter; here it is;
Disclaimer: I don't own Willy Wonka or any of his friends. Like Q, I just like to play with them. I only own Toffee.
A New Opportunity
The distant whistle of an express train shook Toffee out of her dreams. She stretched her cramping legs, and stood up.
The rest of the family was still asleep, so she grabbed the smallest piece of bread from the kitchen cabinet, pulled on her faded coat, and silently opened the front door.
She trudged into town, and noticed a sign on every lamp-post. She looked closer at the one posted just in front of the cafe.
It read; "Greetings people of the world. I, Willy Wonka, have decided to open my factory to five children this year. In addition, one of these children will be given a special prize beyond anything you could possibly imagine. Five golden tickets have been placed inside five ordinary Wonka bars. These bars could be in any shop, in any city, in any country in the world. So good luck, and happy hunting!"
A small spark of hope sprung up in his chest, and she thought, "I wonder how that would feel, opening a Wonka bar, to find a golden ticket inside!"
But reality (that cruel continuum) hit her, and she sighed. "The only chance Charlie would have of finding one is his birthday."
She hung her head, and walked into the cafe.
It was slow all day, which meant that tips were at an all-time low. Toffee hung up her apron, pulled on her coat, then paused in the process of pulling on one of her sleeves.
"I can't believe I forgot! It's Charlie's birthday today!" she thought to herself.
She started to walk home, but then she thought, "No doubt Charlie's heard about the tickets at school! I can go down to the candy shop, and maybe I'll have enough tips to surprise him with another Wonka bar!"
She counted the few coins she had, and decided she had enough to spare for a Wonka bar.
The candy shop she stopped in was full of talking customers. She fought her way to the register, and selected a chocolate bar (Whipplescrumptious Fudgemallow Delight, Charlie's favorite).
She slid the coins onto the counter. The cashier grunted a 'thank you', and Toffee smiled as she left the shop.
She trudged the route home, and entered the Bucket household, hearing the old satelite television set crakle. She slipped the bar into her pocket, where it was temporarily forgotten.
Mrs. Bucket kissed her on the cheek, then Charlie said excitedly from the floor, "Toffee! Someone's already won the first ticket! Come see! Come see!"
Toffee hung up her coat, and sat next to her little brother.
On the screen, and enormous, pudgy boy stood next to his mother, cramming endless amounts of chocolate into his mouth. His mother was beaming with pride, and the reporter announced the fat boy's name to be Augustus Gloop.
Toffee recoiled in utter disgust, and said, "What a disgusting boy!"
Mr. Bucket switched the television off as the channel switched to a weather report.
Mrs. Bucket walked into the kitchen, where she picked up a small package, and handed it to Charlie.
"Here you go dear." she said as Charlie placed it on his lap.
He smiled, and the entire family grew quiet as he carefully peeled back the wrapping paper.
Toffee smiled as his eyes lit up at the sight of the Wonka bar inside.
He thanked his parents, who smiled back at him, then he started to open the chcolate bar.
The tension in the small house was so thick, you couldn't cut it with a butcher's knife.
Charlie pulled the final piece of wrapper, uncovering nothing but a plain bar of chocolate.
Toffee could tell that he was just a little disappointed.
Mr. Bucket said from behind Charlie, "Well, you've still got the chocolate."
Charlie nodded, and started to break of bits of the chocolate bar. Toffee saw what he was intending to do, and said, "No, Charlie, not your birthday present!"
He faced his sister, and said gently, "It's my candy. I'll do what I want with it." And with that, he handed her a piece.
She smiled, and said, "Thank you."
Charlie distributed the rest of his chocolate bar in this manner, then started to suck on his piece.
The grandparent's gummed their's, Mr. and Mrs. Bucket bit miniscule bits off their pieces. Toffee, however, just held her's to her nose, and took in the delicious chocolate smell.
A/N: Wow, that was a little longer than I thought it would be. They'll just get longer, though. :)
