Chapter 5

Lily's POV

"… and then I ran away." I say, while Marlene and Hestia sit on my bed with me jumping with joy. I didn't mention the bind-folding or the tunnel to Honeydukes though, obviously because it wasn't my secret to share. Also, I just didn't want them to wet themselves with excitement when I tell them about him picking me up. I look at my watch. Oh crap, I have to be there in fifteen minutes!

"Damn it guys! I gotta go!" I say without waiting for a goodbye, and grab my parchment and gear and shoot through the Common Room and sprint to McGonagall's office.

I get close enough to see James waiting beside the door, and I sigh. This means he has an opportunity to talk to me.

I walk up to the door. "Lily, can I talk to you for a second?"

"No." I say, sliding down the wall into sitting.

"Lily, you know we gotta talk about this." He says groaning.

"And to think Sirius told me off about my 'promiscuous sounds'." I mutter.

James grins, hearing me. I seriously am underestimating his hearing!

"Does my groaning entice you?" He replies. That little shit.

I dead-pan him. "Is this really how you prove you've matured?"

He raises his eyebrows, thinking of a reply. "You didn't answer my question."

I roll my eyes, that is such a Potter answer. I don't answer.

"Lilyyyy," he says seducingly "answer me, Lily." He groans while smirking.

I avert my eyes, embarrassed.

"Holy crap! That does tempt you, doesn't it?" He says laughing. "Jeez Lils, now you're enticing me!"

I shoot up. "No Potter, you groaning doesn't make me want to do anything with you-"

Other than the hormones that make me want to kiss you, but let's keep that to ourselves, hey?

"- except curse that crap out of you! Can't you see this just isn't going to work-" I say, but never finish the sentence because he grabs me and pins me to the wall. I wiggle, trying to escape but he doesn't allow it. I look away from him.

"Look at me Lily."

"Let me go Potter!"

"Lils, please just look at me." He says softly.

"No, James!"

"See Lily! That right there, you wouldn't call me James unless you're not actually that mad at me. Please Lily?" He pleads.

I sigh, because I know he's right. He punched Snape with good reason, not just out of spite. I was just looking for another reason to hate him again. I look into his hazel eyes, and see the regret there.

"Okay." I mutter, finally knowing he'll hear me. He grins.

"Thank you Lily. But there is one thing I do want to ask though." He says, with a tweak of fear. I raise an eyebrow.

"What would you do if I finished what we started in Hogsmeade?" He says as understand his fear, he doesn't want to destroy this, even if it is just a friendship. I inhale quickly and think about my next move, but I can't think of anything.

So instead, I put my hands around his neck and both felt his pulse quicken but him actually relax at the same time.

He leans in slightly and I bring my hands up his neck and bury them into his wild hair as I had seen him do so often. He leans closer with his hand on my waist until our lips almost touch- "creakkkk..."

Damn it McGonagall!

James' POV

"What would you do if I finished what we started in Hogsmeade?" I say as my heart quickens. I can't mess this up as soon as it's started! I wait for a movement, a reply, anything; until she reaches up and places her soft hands wordlessly around my neck. My heart still beats fast because I know what is coming, but I feel so relieved. This is it!

I lean in slightly and she brings her delicate hands up my neck and curls them into my hair. I lean in close and put my hand on her waist to pull her in when- "creakkkk"

Damn it, McGonagall! So close!

Knowing Lily won't want to be seen like this, I jump away from her and attempt to tidy my hair.

McGonagall opens the door and sees a flustered Lily and a slightly panting James, and naturally raises her eyebrows. After a moment of a questioning look, she steps aside and Lily rushes in, blushing furiously.

I look at McGonagall with my eyebrows low with a pure look of 'why?'. She smiles and mouths "almost there!" and I chuckle. Minerva has a secret humour about her only the Marauders knew about, but don't get me wrong, she is stern when she catching us pranking and such. She's only acting like this because she- along with everyone else in this school- knows how I feel about Lily.

I walk in and sit near Lily, who still looks thoroughly embarrassed.

"Good evening, Lily and James. You will please write the sentence on the board as many times as you can until 5:30, which then you may leave your parchment on my table. Lily, as a Prefect I trust you enough to do this, as I have an important errand to run. You may begin." McGonagall states.

Lily nods and begins writing 'I will pay attention in Transfiguration as well as all other classes.'

I look towards McGonagall as she leaves, and she winks. I cover my laugh with a cough and mouth 'thank you' and she nods while smiling, and leaves.

I start writing my sentence: 'As a student I must learn to be more responsible and respect others.' And I wonder, what happens now? Was that a one-time thing? Or should I ask her out? Or now that McGonagall's gone, would she want to continue what had been interrupted? No, I don't think so. Lily's not that kind of girl; she'll be overthinking this now. Oh Merlin…

Lily's POV

I nod as McGonagall leaves, and begin writing my sentence.

I will pay attention-

What happens now?

in Transfiguration-

Is he going to kiss me again now we're alone?

as well as all other classes.

Do I want him to?

Yes.

Should I?

No, probably not. I shake my head, this is making my head hurt.

"Lily? You okay?" James asks, slightly nervous. I sigh.

"Sort of, James." I reply, knowing this won't be the best of chats.

He stands up and moves over a few chairs, next to me.

"What's up?" He asks.

I roll my eyes at him. "What do you think is up, James? What just happened?"

He laughs slightly at 'what just happened' and says "Well, you see when a girl and a boy like each over very much- Ow! Hey!" He laughs as I hit him with my Transfiguration book.

I smile, the idiot.

"This is moving too fast James! I literally just forgave you, and then we almost… well…" I don't finish, but instead blush profusely. He chuckles.

"Don't laugh at me! You're cruel." I laugh.

"I almost kissed you." He smiles, reliving the memory.

"I don't even know you, James! I can't just make-out with some hot guy for the hell of it!" I screech.

"… You think I'm hot?" He smirks. Oh for the love of God…

"Naturally that's what you hear!" I shake my head, "Did you completely miss 'I don't even know you'?" I say.

"Sure you do. You know what I look like and that my name is James Potter. See, you know me!" He exclaims.

"Enough to be friends, but not more than that." I groan, because he's just not getting it.

He mutters something about 'promiscuous sounds' and I chuckle. He sighs and gently links the fingers of both our right hands together, hanging in the space between us.

"Are you sure?" He whispers, looking from our hands into my eyes.

"Yes." I say faithfully.

He grins, "Can I have one chance to convince you otherwise?" He asks cheekily.

Well, it couldn't hurt could it?

I give a small nod, and his grin widens. "You do realise what I am about to do, right? This won't be like before, this will be pretty convincing" He asks, making sure.

I swallow, and nod again. He's not that good of a kisser to make me throw away my morals.

Right?

He gives me a fake seducing look and I laugh. He places his hand on my waist again, in a less platonic way, but high enough to get away with it. God damn he plays dirty, trying to mess with my hormones Potter? I don't think so.

I attempt a smouldering look and he raises his eyebrows. He realises it takes two to play a game. His grip tightens on my waist until our faces are inches apart. I giggle as he does a very sinister look. I retaliate the evil smile and dig my hands into his hair.

But he doesn't kiss me. I give him a questioning look.

"Admit that you want me to kiss you." He whispers, his smile broadening.

I laugh. "Never."

"Don't make me convince you." He says as his hands lower slightly, and I get a catch in my breath.

He moves his head to the side of mine, and whispers in my ear: "You'll be the death of me, woman." And then chuckles as he moves his head back into place, his lips ghosting across me skin.

"Lily?" He whispers, and I know how close he is to kissing me as my heart quickens.

"Yes?" I reply.

He grins hugely.

"Its 5:30." And he's gone, already walking way with his stuff.

As he gets to the door he looks over his shoulder and says "I told you it would be convincing." He smirks, and walks away.

I walk down the hall leading to the Great Hall. This isn't going to mess with my head. Nope. Not. At. All. He thinks he's going to mess with my head? I don't think so Potter. I'm not going to think about that at all.

God damn it, I'm thinking about it.

A lot.

I sigh just as I go through the doors as I look down at my shoes. No, no. That's it. Two can play a game. But that means two can play it dirty.

I look up and my gaze meets James', and he gives me an evil smirk and a wink. But that's when I return the smirk, but the cruelty is double of his. And I give a discreet wink. His grin drops, and he actually looks kinda scared.

For good reason.

I walk up to the Gryffindor's table, but I don't sit down. No, instead I stand on the bench and flash Potter an evil grin. He gulps.

The Great Hall quietens. "Sonorus!" I whisper.

"Hi everyone, sorry to interrupt, but this is just for the Gryfs." I say, politely as possible and sit down.

James raises his eyebrows, and I just smile. Normally.

"Quietus." I whisper, "Okay, now that I've got your attention, I've decided that Gryffindor will be having a Halloween party," and at the mention of a party, naturally everyone is whispering, "after the feast in the Common Room. Dress up, of course. With some games," I say with a sly smile, full well knowing James will know it's for him, "which I hope will prove that we deserve to be Lions. Are you in?!" An uproar of 'hell yeah!'s and such.

"I'm sure the Marauders could arrange something… drink wise. Catch me, Black?" I ask him.

He laughs and salutes. "It would be my honour, Marauderette."

And with that my plan is action.
