So sorry folks for the late update. This wasn't an easy chapter to write. Plus I was really tired from work. It was worth the wait though, I think. PLEASE REVIEW.

Chapter 38: The big pack – Pain & Anger
.
Brady:
Those damn leeches! Curse them, for figuring this out. It hurt, hurt, so badly. Why did they have to go for the ear, for my head? It seemed about to explode! Argh! Aahh! We had been doing well with all the preparation we've received. Still, of course, they haven't sat on their asses either. Why did they attack us now, like this? Were we winning perhaps?
I couldn't help but whine and moan. My whole body was tense and burning with a cold fire. Collin was in the same state. We had crashed to the ground and just lay there, unable to move. The vamps we fought with had free reign now to finish us off quickly. My life flashed before my eyes, it was mixed with that of my best friend. We had been spending time together since secondary school.
Every face I knew passed by, my circle was quite big. Some of the girls stood out. Would I see them again and maybe marry one? I was just a few weeks away from my 17th birthday. 'Hold on!' Sam ordered through the link. 'Both of you!' An image of Leah came through also, she looked at little worse than us, but we weren't sure.
Black spots appeared in my vision as I started to lose conscious. That didn't stop the thoughts of the others coming through though. I could see it all from different point of views. They were not going to let us die. Our attackers never got the chance to strike that final blow. Sam showed one of the Amazons engaging my opponent. And one of the real werewolves tackling Collin's one.
Oliver had spotted Seth and he looked angry, very angry. His eyes were ablaze and focused on the bald vampire near his sister. He seemed huge, his muscles bulging under his fur while charging down the field. Yes, even now I could see them, since we let our hair grow because of the extreme cold here. My attention on the battle around me helped with the pain. I closed my eyes and let everybody in.
My ears were flooded with screams as Seth tore his target to bits. Then I felt cold fingers on my ear. I flinched and twitched, but could do nothing. "Shh, easy, you big dog," a raw female voice whispered. "You're lucky you stink, so my mouth turns dry." Teeth pierced the exact same spot I got bitten moments ago. Then she began sucking the poison out. It needed to be done, but jeez it hurt!
The icy flames torturing my body began to retreat to my ear. It was the strangest sensation and it brought back memories of the time Jake got hurt after the newborn fight. I gasped for air, my heart was racing. Every instinct in me told me this was wrong, told me to resist, but I couldn't. Things got worse when I received an image of the werewolf lifting Collin up in his arms.
What was he going to do? How much control did he have? Several of my pack mates shared my worries. The charcoal one pulled back his lips, showing canines like ours and a waterfall of saliva. My friend whimpered with fear, hanging there limp. But ever so gentle the giant muzzle took hold of his ear and he let his drool ooze into the wound. Instantly Collin's muscles contracted, a battle beginning inside him.
The female vampire that came with the werewolves spoke up and told us "werewolf-venom" would counteract the effects of vampire-venom. It would be very painful, but a rather short process. Yeah, right. We hurt together as both our forms fought to survive.
The last I got to see before it became too much, was May tending to Leah. Our she-wolf was laying on her side, showing three bleeding red gashes on her shoulder. The ear that was bitten, was also torn. She was still and silent. Fading … nothing …
.
Matt
Nooo, three on our side were down! 'Come on everyone, I thought, we have to fight harder!' For our packmates, for our brothers and sister!' We all stepped it up a notch, channelling our pain and anger. Letting the animal take control a bit more, all of us were able to stop the effects of the three in pain. That could not distract us right now.
Strangely enough it did get some of our enemies distracted. At least half a dozen were staring at May, healing Leah. We were used to it and forgot it was a very usual gift she had, for a vampire. But actually, she was doing two things; healing the gashes with one arm/ hand, and sucking out the venom while holding an ear with the other. "Hold on Lee, she whispered, please, hold on!"
Seth was even more beast than we were. He moved fast, lashing out at any who dared to come close. His actions seemed to strike a chord with our real werewolves. Even though we hardly resembled each other. Boris growled loudly, fed up with dealing with Ulrich. The moon being at it fullest also gave him extra strength. He charged the big ape on all fours, pawing at the ground.
They crashed into each other with a big bang, but didn't hit the ground. Lucian took the Volturi's whole head in his mouth and ripped it off. Together they tore up the body so fast, you'd think it was burned already. Well, the Egyptian made sure it actually was, ashes. The whole field snapped out of it and the fighting continued. We were all in the zone, only thinking of finding a target and killing.
And the plan the Cullen mindreader had set in motion was up and running again. We felt the earth shake, tremble and saw a crack racing to what looked like an empty spot. A deafening rumble followed and a male and female leech flew through the air. Suddenly the spot appeared to be occupied. By non other than the Volturi kings and their wives, plus two more.
They had been hidden, but not anymore …. The royal bastards realised this too and joined their soldiers in battle. Hah, now those were some targets! Many eyes shot in their direction and man it was on! The two non-royals stayed with the wives, but were weary. They must be gifted, because they didn't look like fighters.
The launched shields made their way back to that group of four. One of them was invisible, but we could smell him next to Renata. Attacking them proved useless, especially when they started working together. 'Bella can see them,' Sam let us know through Jake. 'It's an illusion which works on the mind.' We understood completely, but she didn't have her hands free.
'We need to take out the witch twins, Jared concluded, so she can join in on the fight.' Yes, that was most important now, as she must be getting mentally tired of protecting us so long. It took a lot of concentration, shaping her shield like an octopus, but it worked well. No enemy could get under it and use it. Sam quickly split us up in teams.
I was pared with Lucas, who was eager now he had a task, a mission. Our eyes wandered the field and we soon found them. They wanted to unite with the two shields, looking scared. 'Let's try and cut them off,' I thought to Lucas. We raced across the battlefield, dodging attackers left and right.

Grrr! How did this happen? Why did they get separated and hurt? Many questions whirled through my head as my anger level rose. I haven't felt like this in such a long time. Before we knew of this war, things were looking good at home. My parents finally stopped arguing …, well almost. At least they weren't talking about splitting up anymore.
My happy natured nephew staying over helped too. His parents went on a second honeymoon for a few weeks. They won some lottery money or something. This kid was only seven and seemed no where near as hot-tempered as the people in our family. I often wondered how we were related. Gibson or Gibby was just all about fun and play.
Gah, I shook those thoughts away. Focus, I told myself. Channel that anger. The others were doing it too. I zeroed in on the nearest opponent to take him out. Oliver had my back, thinking of tactics. Our nerd could be annoying at times, but right now, his huge brain helped us. And man, did it go into overdrive because of those tricky bastards! Determination flooded through the pack mind as he went over all we have learned during training.
I saw what he wanted, some kind of pincher move. 'Good plan, I thought, work me through it, let's go!' We were making our way towards the evil little twins. In the background we could hear three heartbeats slowing down to a normal, steady rhythm. Breathing getting easier. Brady, Collin and Leah were stabilising, surviving. With that positive sign I avoided being grabbed by some female leech and flicked around to grab her arm.
She screeched in surprise and hit me with her other arm. That irritated me, so with one move I ripped that limb off and threw it away. That girl was stupid and now lost, so Oliver and I took care of her fast. We were getting nearer to our goal, coming in from the east. Matt and Luke came from the west-side. Just in time we cut those two devils off, we felt the outer edge of the physical shield brush along our fur.
It gave me the creeps and distracted me a second. The boy who could produce that fog used it to lash out at me. A whack across the head sent me flying. And made me even more angry! Heat surged through my body, making my muscles tremble. I showed him all my teeth and growled loudly. 'You're dead!' I thought.
Not long after he and his sister were surrounded by the eight of us. Hardly any of the other Volturi came to help them. Guess they weren't well liked. And the ones that did were fought off. But Aro, the head-vamp, saw what was going to happen and came our way with some more experienced fighters. He didn't want to lose his precious tools. We had to act fast!
So we charged them from all angles, focused, so they wouldn't escape. Alec jumped up to get away and Jane ducked to slide underneath us through our legs. Lucas thought of basketball and thrust himself upwards to grab the boy. The girl almost managed to get past us, but got pounced on by Paul. They both screamed in terror and were pinned down. Their hands came up to stop us from ripping their heads off.
Well, those got taken first instead. I started pulling at one of the girl's legs when we were knocked off by several stone bodies. Rolling around in the snow it turned into an all out battle. Man, these guys were tough! These oldies got skills! Still we got help from several sides. Emmet joined in eagerly, as did those Romanian guys. The twins attempted to crawl away …, attempted.

I didn't know what to expect really, going into war. I knew it wasn't going to be like in my comic books. We were no superheroes, but still, it was so much worse than I ever imagined. It was good we were linked, or fear could've taken hold of me. Especially with three of us out for the count. Yeah, Leah was a spirit-wolf too after all. One of the protectors.
Man, was I glad we had May among us. And even 'strangers' came to help, which I didn't expect. They even knew what to do. 'Save them, please!' I thought. It was strange how most of our enemies already counted them out. Like they were done for. Seth, Carlisle and Esme managed to keep the few attacking away from them while they fought for their lives.
I followed Sam on his heels, as he started to form a plan. He was such a great alpha, I drew my strength mainly from him. It was easy to take orders from him. He was the first to phase and the most skilled at what we do. Jared was close though, to matching him, that's why he was second in command.
Paul was strong, passion driving him to give his all. And a temper to boot, giving him something extra now. I tapped into that too, I needed that, to feel that force, pushing me forward. I was going to survive, going to make something of myself. Have dreams and goals in life. We deserved to exist and so we fought. I listened and acted, getting into a flow fully focused.
All my senses sharp, I jumped on a fool with his back to me. My teeth tore into him and with three moves his head came off. I sprang away just in time for flaming ball to hit that corpse. Thanks Benjamin. A formidable ally that guy. Every time I managed to strike a blow or dodge an attack, I got closer to our targets.
Somehow that gave me new energy and I used it. Not questioning anything about that. Sure, in the end I might be exhausted, unable to stand, but I wasn't going to worry right this minute. No way! We had a strategy and it worked. Until those two little creeps got help from their king. In the scramble I found myself without an opponent at one point, so I sought out the boy.
Lucas had taken his right arm and left hand. Jared half his feet. So now he was crawling through the snow to escape. His sister was somewhere going in the other direction. I stalked him, careful for the fighters around me. When I was only a few yards away, as female guard blocked my way. She wore tight spandex clothing under her cloak and looked like a hooker.
No, really, like she was attempting to seduce her opponents or something. Me, she only repulsed, as she smelled like chloride toilet-cleaner. Ugh, yuk! We assessed each other for a moment, circling. Then, when I wanted to charge, Lucian flung someone against her.
I moved around them and turned my attention back to 'fog-boy'. He, was looking at me now, reacting to the commotion. Fear grew in his eyes when he realised no one stood between us. It was pathetic how he tried to go faster. A few strides …. 'You are mine!'

Sam
Brady, Collin, no, No, NO! And Lee, not her too! Just when she finally found her happiness again, the one for her. After feeling their pain, came the anger. And gratitude for the ones helping them. Even if it was in a crude way. We channelled all those emotions into a goal, a task to perform. I listened to all the thoughts coming from my pack.
They flowed in like a stream, together, forming one whole. There was no confusion, no disorder. We were a unit, highly trained, equals. Jake helped too, feeding me information from Bella and his pack. Now I was fighting the guard named Demetri. He was a strong opponent, requiring almost all my attention. But I had to keep track of those twins too. They were our targets, they had to be taken out.
.
Jared
It hurt, a vampire bite hurt. We knew this from legend, but never felt it ourselves. Even second hand it was so, so bad. Collin and Brady's lives flashed before their eyes and that made me think of my own. Of Kim. We were engaged now. And after this I planned to set a date for our wedding, as soon as possible. Paul was thinking the same. And then we almost had those evil twins, almost. Of course that king had to come to their aid. But those two were injured and not moving fast. We were going to get them.
.
Paul
Grrr! Those stinking rats! Evil bastards! I almost got the satisfaction of killing that pain-inflicting witch. She only had stumps for arms now and one foot. Her brother was in a similar state. Damn, those shielding vamps so close were a bother! Still I managed to stay between them and the twins. I kept my eye on them. They were going down!
.
Lucas
Wow, it felt good to get hold of that little 'fog-boy'. To see him so terrified of me, the big bad wolf. *chuckle* He lost some limbs, but unfortunately not his undead life. Not that he could delay the inevitable though. Like a roach he scurried away. Hah, Danny soon got him in his sights! Yeah, go get him!
.
Oliver
Never before was I so glad with my brain. Hyped up it worked so fast. I saw connections, possibilities and applied my knowledge so easily. Sam used that to guide me. All together we worked as one. It felt good, efficient. I could keep tabs on Collin and Brady. Glimpses of Leah registered too. What I saw got my hopes up. 'Fight, all of you!' I shouted through the link. We were all going to make it. Now where is that girl-twin?
Ah, there she is …, my eyes locked onto her and my mind started to calculate the best way to reach her. Avoiding all 'obstacles' on my path.
.
Collin
Uuhh, I felt sore and groggy. Like I had a bad hangover and got hit by a bus. That werewolf-spit worked, but jeez it hurt! The war around me seemed to have moved into my body for a while. I don't know how long it took, maybe about ten minutes, but the worst of the pain was gone. Breathing was easier now, so I sucked in lungful, after lungful. Oxygen, wonderful stuff.
I managed to follow the battle through the others. They were doing well. Brady, my friend, was coming around too. I opened my eyes slowly, blinking against the bright moonlight. My vision was blurry, but I could make out a light gray wolf laying not too far from us. I tried to focus. Was that Leah? No! My memory came back and confirmed it.
'No, please, be alright,' I thought. A whine left my mouth. I still cared for her a lot. In a flash someone was at my side. "Shh, May cooed, she's alright."
