Hey! Thanks for all your reviews and support! I know this update took a while, but it is a lot longer than usual. Now four years have passed, and Harry goes home for Christmas! What drama will arise? Find out in this chapter and the next! Disclaimer: I do not own Frozen or Harry Potter. Otherwise I'd be busy being insanely rich.
Captain Hall watched proudly as his two students battled it out on top of their mountain. It had been four years since he and Harry had arrived in Arendelle, and much progress had been made since then. Harry and Elsa had grown more comfortable with each other, cultivating a friendship that was stronger than both of them. Harry was happier with a best friend that was closer to his age, and Elsa no longer feared her powers like she once had. Harry had even helped mend the rift between the sisters. He had developed a soft spot for Anna and took her outside of the castle many times for "adventures". The king despaired that the boy always managed to evade the guards, but Captain Hall wasn't worried. Harry was trained as well as any of the king's men. He could protect the little princess if need be. With Anna following Harry around like a puppy dog, it was inevitable that she would run into Elsa. Harry had coaxed Elsa into playing with him and Anna one day, promising she wouldn't hurt her. There had been no incident, and so Elsa let herself get closer to her sister. Anna still didn't know anything about their powers, and Elsa was still far too careful around her, but it was a start.
Watching Elsa and Harry fight was truly a thing of beauty. He had taught his students, particularly Harry, to use their magic as a protective instinct. Harry's fire was magnificent. He could now use fire whips efficiently and brutally, but he was evenly matched with Elsa's ice. Conceal, don't feel was no longer her motto. Instead, she let her magic be a part of her. Accepting the magic gave her far more control than she'd ever had before. She still froze things over when she was angry or stressed, but being around Harry could usually temper that. She could calm him down in the same way.
Captain Hall was so absorbed in Harry and Elsa's fight that he almost missed the sound of Albus Dumbledore appearing next to him. Almost, of course, because he had spent too much time in the army to not notice when someone tried to sneak up on him. "Hello, Albus," he greeted his old companion, not even bothering to turn around.
Dumbledore smiled. "Still as sharp as ever, Amund. I shouldn't have expected anything less."
"No, you shouldn't have," Captain Hall agreed. "How is being the great Albus Dumbledore treating you?"
Dumbledore couldn't help but laugh. He had known Admund Hall since he was a young man, before he became a legend, and the captain never had the eternal awe of him most of England did. "The school is doing well, but I'm often frustrated when it comes to the Ministry of Magic. They just don't want to admit that the wizarding world needs new blood."
Captain Hall nodded. He had never cared much for his mother's home country, preferring to spend his time with his father in Arendelle. The two friends just stood in silence.
Albus's blue eyes twinkled as he watched Harry and Elsa spar. "You have done well with them, my friend," he complimented.
Captain Hall shook his head. "I have done nothing. My students have done all the hard work," he replied. "I assume you've come to visit for a reason."
"Harry's mother would like to see him over the holidays," Albus answered.
"And this time is different from all the others because…" Captain Hall studied his old friend's worn face. He knew Lily Potter had asked for visits before, but Dumbledore hadn't thought it prudent. Harry has asked to go home a few times initially, but as the years went on he stopped asking. It was better this way, Dumbledore insisted. Of course, Dumbledore wasn't the one taking care of a kid who was convinced no one in his family loved him, who cried quietly at first before starting to believe that even such a small thing was a weakness. Captain Hall would admit he had raised Harry to be a soldier, but what he really wanted was for the boy to be strong. This was the only way he knew how to accomplish such a task.
"Lily has threatened some very nasty things if she didn't see her son," Albus admitted.
"Did she threaten your precious lemon drops?" Captain Hall joked, a slight smile on his face. Albus has always had an odd obsession with Muggle sweets.
"Amongst other things."
"Well, I'll talk to Harry, but he can't stay there any later than the 1st. He can leave tomorrow if he wishes."
"If he wishes?" Albus repeated.
Captain Hall shrugged. "It's his decision. I'm not about to force him back to England. Have a good day, Albus." He turned away from his old friend, all his focus back on his students. Albus felt stung as he Apparated away, having been dismissed for the first time in years. As he sat in his office later that day, he felt a keen sense of defeat, like he had lost control of a pawn he was sure he could control. Hopefully bringing Harry home could help Albus regain his footing with the Potter, and if not there was always Stevie and Eva. He smiled as he sucked on a lemon drop, unaware that he made two and soon to be three very powerful enemies in Arendelle.
Lily Potter anxiously fluttered around the manor, making sure everything was perfect for her baby boy's return. She hadn't seen Harry in six years, not since they had sent him away for training, but he wrote her at least once a month. His letters were often short and uninformative, but she treasured each one of them. She couldn't wait to see her son. He was fourteen now and surely as handsome as could be. While Stevie heavily favored her in appearance with red hairs, freckles, and facial structure, Harry looked so much like James though he did have her eyes and some of her face.
Lily was fluffing her pillows for what seemed to be the ten thousandth time when her Floo flashed. Rationally, she knew Harry and his teacher wouldn't come through the Floo. Harry's magic had always reacted badly with it, so much so it was actually a wonder they still had a functioning fireplace. Still, her heart started to beat a little bit faster in anticipation.
She was only slightly disappointed when the figure who stepped into her living room was her old friend Severus dropping off some potion ingredients he had promised her. "Hello, Severus," she greeted him. "Thank you so much."
Severus smiled (or at least as close as the Potions professor could get to a smile) at her. "Not a problem." He peered around the living room, noticing it was particularly clean and devoid of Potters. "Where are Potter and your spawn?"
"Sev," Lily chided gently. "James and Sirius took the kids out to a Quidditch game. I wanted to be able to get everything ready for Harry coming home."
"Harry," Severus repeated, trying to recall who this person was. A vague memory came to him. "Your older son?" he questioned.
Lily nodded. "He's been away for so long. I can't wait to have him home." The longing in her voice was apparent, but she still smiled at the thought of her son.
"He's not enrolled in Hogwarts," Severus stated, not phrasing it as a question. If the boy was a Hogwarts student, he would have him in class. Was Lily's son a Squib? It was possible, but he doubted it. The Potter heir being a Squib would've been a front page story. But if not a Squib, then what?
"He has a private tutor," Lily replied. "It's better this way, Sev. He's safer this way."
Snape raised an eyebrow but said nothing. Lily's secrets were her own, and he would honor that if nothing else. He vaguely wondered if Albus knew anything about the boy and decided to bring up the subject if he could. "Well, I'll leave you to your preparations then. I have essays to grade. Second year students are infuriating."
Lily laughed at her friend's displeasure. "I'll see you at Christmas dinner, Severus," she responded. Severus just nodded his head resignedly as he popped back into the Floo. She turned back to her spotless house, longing for something else to do. Christmas presents, she realized with a start. She had to wrap Christmas presents. She set out to the task at hand, the thought of Harry never leaving her mind.
Stevie sat on the couch, anxiously tapping his fingers on his knee. Everyone in the room seemed nervous. His mother fluttered around from room to room, cleaning things that weren't dirty and just not wanting to sit still. His father sat very stiffly in his chair, his eyes never meeting his mother's. Stevie had overheard them fighting a couple of times over his brother coming home from the holidays. James insisted that it wasn't a good idea for Harry to come home and that the boy was fine where he was, and Lily told him in a very tight voice that if she didn't see her son soon she wanted a divorce. Divorce wasn't terribly common in the Wizarding world, but it did happen. Usually it brought a huge stigma along with it, and it was clear that his mother would win this argument.
Eva was playing with the bow Lily had tied in her hair. She was excited more than anything. She has never met this older brother everyone was suddenly talking about. Her three year old mind couldn't understand a lot of the conversation, but she did understand the fact that she had another brother. Eva adored Stevie. He was the best big brother ever. He always played dolls with her and let her ride on his back. She could only hope Harry would be the same.
A few minutes later, Harry and his teacher appeared in the living room. Lily guessed Albus had given them a Portkey keyed directly to their home. Her heart nearly stopped when she saw her son. God, he was so handsome. His black hair was long enough to be messy but short enough to be unobtrusive, and his green eyes still glimmered. He was tall, taller than her now, and all lean muscle and quiet strength. She worried slightly over a light scar on the side of his face but decided to fuss later. Harry was home. Her baby was family home.
Harry glanced at his family for a moment, his eyes lingering on Stevie, but then he turned back to his teacher. Captain Hall gave his student what most would think was a gruff look but Harry knew to be a smile. "Be ready to leave on the first. I'll be here at six in the morning. I expect you'll keep up with your studies over the holidays."
"Yes, sir," Harry responded dutifully.
"And if there's any problems…" Captain Hall trailed off.
"Handle them myself," Harry recited, used to the Captain's lessons.
Captain Hall nodded. "Exactly." He pulled something out of his pocket and handed it to Harry. It was a small, plainly wrapped present. Harry raised his eyebrow. "Don't look at me like that. I can give presents every now and then."
"Yes, sir," Harry responded, a slight smirk on his face. "Thank you, sir."
Captain Hall looked distinctly uncomfortable. "Yeah, well… Don't let it get to your head."
Harry smiled. "Never, sir. Merry Christmas." The Captain nodded, grabbing his Portkey ready to leave, but then Harry said, "Tell Elsa I left her and Anna's presents in my room."
His teacher nodded and tapped his Portkey, leaving Harry with the family that felt like strangers and a place he didn't belong.
"Well, he seems like a lot of fun," Stevie commented casually, looking at his brother. "I bet he's a blast at parties."
Harry had to push back a snort. It was obvious the Marauders had had a heavy influence here. "His bark is… Well, it's pretty much as bad as his bite. Neither is very pleasant."
Stevie smiled shyly at him but didn't say anything else. Harry didn't speak either. He just wasn't sure what to say. Eva looked at him curiously. He gave her a small smile.
Lily was the first to speak. "Well, Harry, why don't you get settled in? Tomorrow we have our Christmas Eve party, and it's going to be a busy day."
"Okay, Mum," Harry agreed, picking up his knapsack and slinging it over his shoulder. He needed to get his head together. He could feel flames dying to pour out of his fingers.
James slinked out of the room, never saying a word to Harry. It didn't shock him. He couldn't remember a time when his dad hadn't been afraid of him. It made him a little sad, but he tried not to dwell on it much. Eva crashed into Harry, surprising him by hugging his legs.
Lily couldn't help but smile at the sight. She wished she had a camera. Harry looked so genuinely awkward with his little sister's display of affection, and Stevie was laughing at his big brother. This is what her family should be like, she knew. This is what she wanted her family to be like.
"Eva, come on!" Lily called out. "Let your brother get settled. You need to have a bath before bed anyway. Go on up, and I'll be there in a minute." Eva reluctantly let go of Harry and skipped off to her room.
Stevie lingered, not wanting to leave the brother he hadn't released he had missed so much. He wanted to tell Harry all about Hogwarts and his friends and all of the drama of his second year. He wanted to hear where Harry had been, what he had been doing…
"Stevie," Lily urged.
"We'll talk later, yeah?" Stevie asked his brother.
Harry nodded. "Sure," he replied.
Stevie left the room, leaving Harry alone with their mom. Lily stroked Harry's face gently with her hand. "You look so grown up," she whispered. "I don't remember this scar." She fingered a mark on the side of his face.
"Sparring accident," Harry replied, not giving much detail.
Lily filed away that comment to talk about later. She kissed her baby on the forehead. "I missed you."
Harry smiled at her, one of those bright smiles from when he was a little boy she hadn't seen in years. "I missed you too, Mum." Right then, Lily knew that no matter what, this would be the best Christmas in her memory. She just hoped it would be for Harry soon…
Review Responses
njchrispatrick: Interesting ideas… I definitely plan on Harry and Elsa getting together soon, but their relationship will have many challenges. I think the shock will be more with Lily than James, but I will probably have James trying to reconcile with Harry later after he gets his head out of his butt or when Elsa pulls it out for him. Stay tuned!
arober94: I don't think James is actually scared of Harry. I just think he is scared of what he can do. Since he grew up pureblood in the Wizarding world, he has been raised with the fear and awe of elementals I've mentioned in previous chapters. He lets that blind him to who his son actually is. Some of Frozen's timeline will be followed, but I'm not sure how much.
SinOfDisaster: Interesting idea… I never thought of that. Duly noted for fight scenes!
Avas1Fan0033: Well, technically we don't know Veelas can use wand. Fleur is a quarter-Veela, meaning that there is plenty of wizarding blood in her. Therefore, she can use a wand. For the purpose of this story, elemental magic just doesn't function well with a wand. There's too much centralized power. Maybe I could figure out another foci for what would be considered wand magic, but it won't be with a wand.
Skelo: Maybe we'll see some of that later minus the embarrassing "bed-wetting".
Slightly Disturbed Cookie Girl: I doubt his family would try to force him back, but Dumbledore… Well, that's another story.
917brat: Thanks! I want Lily to be wholly sympathetic because she truly does love her kids and wants the best for them. She just has little to no power in making those decisions. You'll get to see some of that in this chapter. To answer your question, I think it would be a bit like Anna joked in the movie. It would be like tropical summer powers: extreme heat, no water, etc. It might actually be worse than Elsa's eternal winter.
Patronus12: Thanks! Harry will definitely install a sense of adventure in Anna, and that will get her in trouble later. Harry and Elsa is slowly becoming one of my favorite couples to write.
Guest: Well, it is sure to be interesting. I feel like Lily will be very calm and more curious than anything about this girl her son has fallen in love with, and James will just be in shock because the son he basically threw away might be royalty one day.
Juusan13: Thanks! It's in the Harry Potter time (mostly), and Frozen exists within that world. Voldemort isn't a factor (yet or at all, haven't decided yet), but the Wizarding World will be facing a dark wizard. Arendelle is located in Norway.
