Silence fell upon the room as Michiru looked between Lin and the nurse in disbelief. Lin just continued to point toward the nurse, a determined look on his face. The nurse stared at Lin with shock for a moment before smiling at him.
"So you can see this ring around my neck, little boy?" she asked as she touched her neck.
"You can't hide from me and my sister's eyes." Lin said.
"I see," the nurse said. "You know, someone told me about this ring. Even though I can't see it for myself, he said that this ring would free me."
"That's a bunch of lies!" Lin exclaimed, puffing his cheeks. "Once that ring turns black, you enter Papa's game!"
"My, my, you sure a talkative little boy." the nurse said, pulling out a meat cleaver from behind her back. "I normally don't partake on such gross tasting meat, but I think I'll make an exception just for you."
"Fat chance of that, lady!" a familiar voice said as someone came crashing through the window.
"Rin!" Lin exclaimed as he and Michiru turned around.
Rin landed on her feet, sword in hand, and pointed it at the nurse.
"You're coming with me, plushie money!" Rin said.
"Where did she get that sword?!" Michiru exclaimed.
"That's Rin's reaping weapon." Lin explained.
"Oh-wait, what?!" Michiru exclaimed, looking towards Lin in disbelief.
"Hey! Squirt! That's my money you're trying to steal!" Chika exclaimed as he and Shito came in through the window as well.
"Chika-kun! Shito-kun!" Michiru said.
"Oh shut up, Z-Loan idiot!" Rin said, glaring at Chika. "Or do you want me to reap you first?!"
"Heh, in your dreams, squirt!" Chika said.
Lin let out a sigh to the scene before him as Rin and Chika barked at each other over who was going to get the reward or not. Shito also let out a sigh to how stupid his partner was before shooting his gun.
"Hey! Watch it!" Chika yelled, glaring at Shito.
"See! You make a great target, tally!" Rin said.
"Why you-?!" Chika said, glaring at Rin now.
"She's getting away!" Shito said as he and Lin ran to follow the nurse, who grabbed the unconscious Yumi and fled.
"Wait for me, Lin!" Rin said, running after the two with Michiru following behind her.
"Oi!" Chika exclaimed as he, too, followed after the group.
"I didn't know that a church was here," Rin said as she and the others walked into a church that was connected to the nurse's office.
"I don't think it came up when we were doing research on the school." Lin said.
"Yeah," Rin said.
"What are you runts talking about?" Chika asked.
"None of your business, tally!" Rin said as she turned and glared at Chika.
"Not now, Rin." Lin said, looking towards his sister.
"Well, it's not!" Rin said, looking at Lin.
"Food," the nurse said. Everyone turned and looked toward the altar to find the nurse standing there, holding Yumi within her arms. "We need it for our survival and God grants our wishes." the nurse continued. "Those that cross over are guilty of chasing after happiness like demons."
"Yumi-chan!" Michiru exclaimed when seeing her friend.
"I've been worshiping God for my entire life." the nurse said as she took her headdress off. "Only using my ears and not listening to the impure things my heart keeps telling me. But now, I have an unbelievable feeling."
Michiru gasped once she saw the ring Lin was talking about earlier. "There really is a ring…"
"Oh? You can see this too, Kita-san?" the nurse asked. "As I've said earlier, the person that told me about this said that this ring would free me. It was a contracted promise."
"Contract?" Shito said.
"So, what you're saying is...you captured them and then ate them?" Michiru asked, trembling slightly in fear.
"That's what usually happens when people turn into zombies." Rin said, "Without legalization, they're a slave to their inhumanly desires."
Lin nodded in agreement to his sister's explanation.
"Is that how it is?" the nurse asked. "Nowadays I can't think about things for too long." She looked toward Yumi and gently caressed her face. "But I feel really good, like the cloud seeing the sun. And there's only one thing on my mind. And that is to eat."
A gunshot rang through out the room as a bullet went through the nurse's head.
"Trash," Shito said, pointing his gun at the nurse. "Go to that world and eat God's meat."
"Yumi-chan!" Michiru exclaimed as she and Chika went over to catch the girl.
However, instead of falling to the ground, the nurse turned her head and smiled. Shito's eyes widen when he saw this and looked toward Chika.
"Akatsuki!" he exclaimed.
Chika quickly looked up as the nurse ran toward him. But before he could do anything, the nurse ran by and took a bite from his shoulder.
"That's gotta hurt," Rin said as she and Lin scrunched up their noses to the scene before them.
"Damn, it hurts!" Chika exclaimed as he held his shoulder.
"Ch-Ch-Chika-kun!" Michiru exclaimed in worry.
"Hey, you there, bring her over there." Chika ordered.
"Stupid, you're so careless." Shito said.
"Shut up!" Chika said.
"Well, while they're distracted," Rin said as she readied her sword. "Let's go get my plushie money!"
Lin let out a sigh to his sister's enthusiasm as the nurse spat out the chunk of meat she got from Chika.
"Male flesh tastes horrible," the nurse said. "I want a girl's meat."
"Shut up, you eating ghost!" Chika exclaimed as he jumped toward the nurse.
"That's my pay, tally!" Rin exclaimed as she, too, ran toward the nurse.
"Might as well bring out my weapon as well." Lin said.
He closed his eyes and held out his hand. A ball of light appeared in front of it before it turned into a scythe. He took hold of the newly formed weapon and ran to be by his sister's side as she was trying to hit the nurse.
"Hey, Miss Cheetah! Stay still!" Rin exclaimed.
She swung her sword at the deranged nurse but the nurse jumped back. Lin ran in front of Rin and toward the nurse himself, taking a swing at her too with his scythe. However, just like with Rin, the nurse dodged his attack as well.
"This is hard!" Lin said.
"If only Momma allowed us to be bigger!" Rin exclaimed. "Then I would have had this Cheetah down already!"
Lin pulled his scythe back and ran toward the nurse once more. He took another swing at her but missed again due to her dodging it once more. Shito took aim at her with his gun and pulled the trigger. Incredibly, the nurse dodged that as well. But instead of running away, she went straight up to Shito, catching him off guard.
"No!" Michiru exclaimed as the nurse cut off Shito's right arm.
"Not enough," she said. "I want more….I want to eat more…"
"She sure has gone off the rocker since dying." Rin said, Lin nodding in agreement.
"Shito, your hand!" Michiru said.
"Hmph!" Shito said as he switched to his left. "Pity I can't use the hand I usually shoot with."
He took aim for the nurse once more and pulled. However, instead of the bullet heading for the nurse, it hit Chika in the leg instead.
"Ite!" he exclaimed before going up to his partner. "What the hell are you doing?!"
"I only have one hand, so it's hard to aim." Shito said, looking at his gun.
"You did that on purpose!" Chika yelled.
"Now's our chance!" Rin said happily.
"Let's go!" Lin said, pulling his scythe back.
"Right!" Rin said, holding her sword.
The two charged at the nurse, each taking a swing at her. The nurse dodge their attacks again, making Rin angry.
"Grasshopper! Quick jumping around!" Rin yelled.
"Rin, you have to keep calm when hunting." Lin said.
"Well, they're not!" Rin said as she pointed to Chika and Shito who rejoined the fray.
"They're just zombies." Lin said.
"Oh, yeah." Rin said.
"I can hear you, you know?!" Chika exclaimed as he glared at the twins.
"Oh, shut it, tally!" Rin said, returning the glare.
"Make me!" Chika said.
"Okay!" Rin said, smiling big. "I'll just be the first one to get the jackpot!"
She raised her sword once more and ran towards the nurse again.
"Not if I get her first!" Chika said, charging towards the nurse as well.
Both took a swing at her but missed once again as she jumped away from them.
"You guys are still very energetic," she said. "I was planning on saving the best for last. But now, it seems like I'll have to hurry up and eat it."
Rin and Lin gasped as the nurse charged towards Michiru and the girl she was with.
"No!" Michiru exclaimed, guarding Yumi from the nurse's attack.
The twins' eyes widen as they watched the nurse slash Michiru across her chest. The ring around her neck turning darker as she fell to the ground.
"Nee-san!" Rin and Lin exclaimed as tears came to their eyes.
"Michiru!" Chika exclaimed as well, running towards her.
"I smell blood," the nurse said, raising her clever over her head. "Give me flesh!"
She swung it down to end Michiru's life but Chika blocked it with his sword.
"You've long since gone past what's good for your diet, ghost." Chika said. "But since you still want to eat, I'll just make jerky out of you!"
He pushed the nurse's weapon away and made another swing at her. She jumped into the air to dodge it before jumping back. Shito took aim for her and pulled.
Rin and Lin stood where they were, staring at Michiru as the ring grew even darker with every second. Rin reached out and grabbed Lin's hand, giving it a light squeeze before opening her mouth.
"You've gotta be the one, Lin." she said, sniffling a little.
"Wh-wh-what do you...mean?" Lin asked, sniffling as well.
"You very well know what I mean!" Rin said, glaring at him. "You've gotta reap her!"
"B-b-but," Lin began.
"No buts!" Rin said. "You're the number one candidate! You've gotta be the one to guide her soul! You're the one with the stupid scythe after all!"
"But what about you?" Lin asked.
"I'll take care of miss nurse!" Rin said, trying to fight back tears.
Lin stared at his sister as tears ran down his face. He sniffled a few times before wiping his tears away and nodding.
"Alright! I'll do it!" he said.
Rin nodded before wiping her eyes with her sleeve. She gripped tightly onto her sword and ran towards the nurse.
"This is going to be for big sis, you stupid cat!" she exclaimed, taking a swing at the nurse.
Lin wiped his eyes a bit more before going over to Michiru. He held his scythe tightly within his hands and stood over the dying girl. Michiru slowly looked up at him.
"Don't worry, Nee-san." Lin said, putting on a smile. "You're going to be in a better place soon."
He slowly and carefully pointed his scythe downwards, directly over the ring. Michiru's eyes widen slightly when seeing this. Lin tried his best to calm his nerves down so he wouldn't shake so much but ended up failing. He tightened his grip on the scythe as his entire body shook.
"I can do this," he thought, shutting his eyes as tears came to them. "I can do this!"
He slowly raised the scythe into the air and tried to swing it down but stopped midway.
"I can't do it!" Lin cried as he put the scythe down to the side.
He sat on the ground and continued to cry.
"You're such a baby!" Rin said as she walked over to her brother.
Lin looked up at her while hiccuping. He could see Chika performing the funeral for the nurse behind her as she looked at him sternly.
"W-w-well, you try it then!" Lin said, sniffling.
"I can't!" Rin said, "Papa hasn't taught me how like he taught you!"
"Well, it's your fault for making me try to reap her in the first place!" Lin exclaimed.
"You're supposed to be the pick for the next Shinigami for crying out loud!" Rin exclaimed. "You should be able to do something like this in your sleep!"
"I'm only five-!" Lin started but was cut off.
"What the hell are you runts going on about?" Chika asked as he walked up to the two.
Lin and Rin let out a squeak before looking up at him.
"None of your business, tally!" Rin exclaimed. "This is between me and my brother!"
"Then would you mind telling us why he almost ended Kita-san's life a few minutes ago?" Shito asked, walking up to them as well.
Rin and Lin remained silent to the question as Chika and Shito stared at them. Rin made her weapon disappear before grabbing Lin's hand.
"Momma's calling!" she exclaimed as she booked it to the door, pulling Lin along.
"Wah! Wait!" Lin said as he tried to make his scythe disappear.
"What the….?" Chika said, watching the two leave with a dumbfounded look on his face.
Shito let out a sigh before looking towards Michiru, who was still badly hurt and dying.
Longest. Chapter. So far with this fanfiction. Anyway, more on what Rin and Lin were talking about later. And that is how Rin curses at this age.
