No light, No light

Chapter one
-

No light, no light in your bright blue eyes

I never knew daylight could be so violent

A revelation in the light of day

You can't choose what stays and what fades away

-Florence and the Machine

I watched my mother every day, morning and night, sitting at our dining room table by herself, blonde hair in her eyes, struggling to pay rent. She was too young to be a mom. Too young to be a mother of a trouble making fifteen year old who was in the principal's office every week with her best friend. Too young to be a mother of a girl who didn't have a father, but had a fondness of music and art.

Too young anyway.

She would sit at the table that was always cluttered with bills and look at the sun when it was setting. Not long enough to hurt her, but a quick gander.

At first I thought this was to get her hair out of her face, but it happened every day.

Of course she never knew I was looking at her.

She was only sixteen when I was born. Just a year older than me.

Imagine.

He, my father, did this to her. He left without telling my mother in nine months, Cadence London Rhapsody would be her child.

'He's a jerk.' I told my mom, but whenever I debated about him, her blue eyes would go soft and she would tell me, 'Your father had to leave,' but before she could continue, she would stop before turning her attention back to housework.

I never believed her, of course, often coming up of what she would say to finish the sentence, usually including very strong words.

But, I had friends. Three to be exact, Dash Fleetwood, and like her name, is the fastest runner in the entire school, giving her an immediate spot on Brookstone Academy's track and field team. Rowan Kimber, who had a weird leg disorder, giving him an eternal excuse from P.E, he has crutches and a love for tacos. My final, (Dash calls this weird and says I could hang out with popular people and I'm 'good looking' enough to get a boyfriend) friend is my music teacher, Mr. Fallon, who isn't old, but is actually really cute and, like, twenty years old, plus, he knows how to play guitar (Dash says that it's even weirder than having him as a friend, but I told her it's a free country).

Dash's father also left before she was born, I asked her why it wasn't a big deal, but she just rolled her eyes and told me I would 'learn soon'.

I swear she's weirder than Rowan and I combined.

But, the day I turned sixteen, things changed and it makes sense what Dash said about learning.

Learning things that altered my life.

Learning things meant that I couldn't go back to my life before.

I couldn't go back to being normal.

But normal was boring, and I'm ready for some excitement.

So bring it, because I'm ready.

You want a revelation,

You wanna get it right

But it's a conversation,

I just can't have tonight

You want a revelation, some kind of resolution

Tell me what you want me to say.

-Florence and the Machine

A/N: Woo-hoo! First chapter, or introduction is done!

I don't own the lyrics, Florence Welch does, and I am just in love with the song and thought it was a good 'theme' for the story.

I also don't own (sadly) the PJO/HoH series.

I'm also not Rick Riordan and own nothing except my own characters.

Gosh, do I hope I don't have to do that for each chapter.

Brownie points if anyone can figure out Cadence and Dash's godly parent!

I dropped hints.

I think.

Oh well.

Until next time, Buh-Bye!
