May 24, Kagome's Office, 9:22 PM

Kagome sighed and stretched, popping a few vertebrae as she arched her back. The campaign report she had just finished gleamed on the computer screen, and her lips tilted up at the metrics there, though the smile didn't reach her eyes. In all aspects, the publicity campaign had been a success: Taishou Prosthetics' technology was all over the news, and several area hospitals had signed contracts with the company.

The managers of Taishou Prosthetics were pleased. Kagome's boss was delighted, if unsurprised. Her colleagues were impressed and a little envious.

But Kagome just felt hollow.

With no one to share her joy, success was empty. Oh, her coworkers were nice enough, but she wasn't especially close with them. Kagome's family didn't really understand what it was she did, and Sango was mostly in that same category.

Kagome closed her eyes and swallowed. Inuyasha. She knew from their lengthy conversations that he was the Assistant Sales Director at the local Double Tree hotel and as such, was quite familiar with the aggravations and excitement that came with the field of marketing.

She scowled and snapped her laptop shut on that train of thought.

I don't deserve him, and I know it.

Kagome stuffed her laptop roughly into her computer bag and slung it over her shoulder.

Sango would say that no one "deserves" anyone— we have the relationships we do by mutual agreement.

She huffed and flicked the light off, closing her office door and making her way down the dimly lit corridor to the stairs.

Kagome was halfway to her car in the parking lot when it dawned on her that a desire to share accomplishments— and failures— with a person was most definitely not a feeling associated with a rebound relationship.
