June 1, Geller's Grocery Parking Lot, 5:52 PM

Kagome leaned against the car door she had just shut and looked at her phone. She sighed. Despite leaving Inuyasha a voicemail and sending a text earlier in the week, he had not responded. She hadn't minced words either— her text simply read, "Hey, I broke up with Kouga. Can we talk?"

She closed her eyes and swallowed the lump that had risen in her throat. That seemed to happen a lot these days. And at inopportune times, too. Kagome pushed herself away from the car and turned around to open the driver's side door. She caught a flash of white in the corner of her eye. Surely not—

Kagome's gaze flicked to where she had seen the movement. Six cars down the line, a white head with two furred, pointed ears popped up from behind one of the vehicles. Her breath caught.

Before she could think too much about it, she took off toward the figure, hoping that she got there before he could get in his car and leave. Breathless, she stopped behind the red sedan just as the door slammed. The reverse lights came on. Surprised golden eyes reflected back in the rear-view mirror, and she met his gaze as best she could. The car was still running. Kagome rapped on the trunk, refusing to budge from her spot. Finally, the engine cut.

The car door opened, and Inuyasha stepped out. He looked everywhere but her.

Kagome took a step toward him in the narrow space between the parked cars. "Inuyasha…" He still wouldn't look at her. "Inuyasha…did you—um, did you get my messages?" Plural. She wondered if that made her pathetic.

He let out a breath, ruffling his bangs. "Yeah. I—I wanted time to think."

"You could have said so." She took another step closer. "I would have understood." Another step. She was right in front of him now, and his efforts not to meet her eyes were painfully obvious. Kagome ached to touch him. Instead she stood less than a foot from him, with his breath ghosting past her ear.

Inuyasha closed his eyes and inhaled. When he opened them, he was looking directly at her, emotions warring in the golden depths. His eyes looked suspiciously damp, and Kagome's confidence crumbled. "I—I'm sorry—I didn't mean to—"

Suddenly he was all around her, and his lips were cutting off whatever half-formed apology she was attempting to make. For a moment, Kagome was frozen. Then her hands dove into his hair and she kissed him for all she was worth. A small groan issued forth— she wasn't sure which of them it came from, but it didn't matter— and then their tongues sought each other out, and Kagome gloried in the slick heat. Inuyasha's hands slid down her back and he pulled her to him as tightly as he could. They didn't come up for air until someone wolf-whistled at them from across the parking lot. Kagome's head snapped up at that, but the individual was already walking through the doors into the grocery store.

She turned back to Inuyasha, who nuzzled against her cheek, sprinkling kisses back to her ear.

"I missed you," he whispered, and Kagome nearly forgot to breathe.

"I missed you too," she said quietly. She dropped a gentle kiss on the side of Inuyasha's neck, then playfully nibbled. "Does this mean we can have that talk?"

Inuyasha smirked, though Kagome couldn't see it. "Yeah," he said, "We can have that talk."

Kagome drew away slightly so she could look him in the eye. "Good. My ice cream is melting in the car though. Meet me at the Monk's Vice tomorrow at 7?"

He chuckled. "Sure thing." Inuysha leaned down to give her a quick kiss before she left. It lasted much longer than he intended and earned them another whistle before they finally broke apart, breathless and a little undone.

"Ice cream," Kagome muttered, and pulled reluctantly away.

"See you tomorrow night," he said.

"Yeah," she agreed, and floated off in a cloud of disbelief and pleasure.
