Marco

October 5

Marco always looked forward to this day.

But now, he is dreading it.

October 5, the first day of his new job.

Marco Phoenix was a middle school history teacher. Was. Now he is the new history teacher at New World high since the last teacher decided to suddenly move out of town without a notice. To think that his students, that he taught in GrandLine middle school ended up like this was quite alarming.

It was well known that students that graduated from GrandLine middle school ended up attending New World high, however if you compared the students then and now would be like comparing Pluto with a Black hole. Luckily the freshmen were still…well…more like their middle school selves but the rest were unrecognizable.

Take for example, Sanji Vinsmok a Senior, he was a top grade student but now he is barely passing his classes as a result of his womanizing ways. Zoro Roronoa another Senior who was and still is a Kendo champion is now always in detention because of his habit of picking fights with everyone.

Well the only person who hadn't changed was Luffy D. Monkey, the Junior was and will always be a troublemaker who miraculously passed his classes, with straight C's and an occasional C+ here and there (except in history they were all A+ and a year ahead, a courtesy of Nico Robin and Dragon). Marco knew that if the kid put in the effort he would get some B's and A's but that was impossible to ask.

The new teacher walked the hallway of his new work place, students were yelling and screaming at each other at 2:00 pm, some were brawling, others were laughing, and some were busy making out. It was finally the last class of the day, he was teaching AP history, as he reached the classroom he noticed that all the seats were empty with a note written on the blackboard.

'Class will commence in the cafeteria'

Marco should've figured that out, after all Luffy's name was written in the attendance sheet, meaning that he is attending this course. The blonde sighed and made his way to scold the class who were most likely eating or playing with food.

Conffetti popped as he pushed the doors open, "Happy Birthday Marco" everyone yelled. The teacher stood there dumbfounded at what had just occurred, there was cake on the table, actually there was a whole birthday setup with other types of food.

"C'mon sir cut the cake" someone yelled, but as he looked around he noticed that scarred teen was nowhere to be found.

"Where is Luffy -Yoi?" he found himself asking

"Oi you started without me" the teen shouted making himself known, emerging from the door, "sorry Marco, Ace just called and I went to pick it up, I promise not to be late to class again"

"let me guess you planned it –Yoi?"

"yup"

"I knew I shouldn't have given my birthdate to that brother of yours" Marco immediately regretted giving his birthdate to his new neighbor, aka Ace D. Portgas, who just happens to be Luffy's older brother and one of his former students.

"well even if you didn't I would just break into the administration office and look at your file, anyways cut the cake, I'm hungry" Luffy complained as he handed his history teacher a knife to cut his cake.

"this is going to be the first and last time you lot pull a stunt like this again got it -Yoi" Marco scolded as he cut his cake to his eager students.

And to be honest with himself Marco was rather glad that his first day ended like this, it took off a lot of stress from his shoulder. And he was rather surprised that his students were so thoughtful, they must've known beforehand that today was his birthday, but something that he will always wonder is how long did they have to set all of this up.

It was a question that he never knew the answer to, till the day Luffy graduated where he found out that the teen had known that Marco was his history teacher in the morning of the school day and so he snuck into the administration office and took the attendance sheet and found each student's emails and told them of his plan, it took them 2 hours to get everything done.

A/N: how was it? So I have this headcanon that if Luffy lived in the modern world he would do well in history because Dragon seems like the kind of guy who would be interested in that stuff so Luffy would be influenced by that and Robin, who is like a stepsister and an archeologist so she usually helps him with that. Also our history would seem to impress him, I feel like luffy would love Abraham Lincoln or Napoleon, or any other historical figure. Also Marco seems like a good teacher who deeply cares for his student's and is a hit with the high schoolers because of his hair and expression.

EDIT: Also I would like to thank JarOfIdeas for pointing out that I got the dates mixed up, I got the wrong date so I apologize if I confused anyone.
