Chapter 15

Ace led his friends as they snuck out the back door of the Museum. They ran, following Ace as he rushed through the alleyway. When they were nearing the exit a man suddenly jumped out in front of them and blocked it. Ace halted in his tracks, making the others do the same.

"Shit! I forgot he was here." They heard Ace mutter. They all looked past him to see their…bus driver blocking their only escape route. Grover and Percy were confused as they looked upon their surprised visitor.

"You can't hide, not from me." The bus driver growled. Percy and Grover hadn't heard him speak before but they knew that a mortal's voice didn't sound that ferocious. That was when it dawned on them that, all along, the bus driver had been a monster. They were a little taken back by this surprise, but their mind was focused on the situation.

The duo turned to Tal as she decided to speak the question they had in mind.

"Ace, what is he?" Tal asked glaring at the beast. She knew that he was a monster but she could not identify the creature.

"Why are you here? And where are your followers?" Ace asked choosing to ignore Tal's question. She frowned at his lack of attention to her inquiry, but given the situation she looked past it.

"By your questions I assume you know who I am, or rather should I say you know who you are. That's a shame; the ignorance of your kind makes the killing even more pleasurable. The look of confusion and horror they have as the light fades from their eyes sends shivers down my spine." The mystery monster replied giving a haughty laugh.

His statement made goose bumps crawl on Percy's skin. Whoever this monster was, he knew that it was sadistic and most likely killed for no other apparent reason than to just kill.

There was a moment of silence as they all registered what the man had just said.

"And as for my followers, well they couldn't sniff through the thickness of the wall you put up, which I am very impressed with. It shows that you aren't only experienced but powerful as well. But that doesn't matter; I shall be plenty for this kill. Prepare yourself half-blood; in honor of your abilities I shall give you a fighting chance for your life." He bellowed, his nails growing out to claws, his eyes growing red with the intent to kill.

Suddenly realization hit Tal like a speeding hellhound. How could she have forgotten this creature? She had hunted it many times with her sisters. This man, this creature was the immortal enemy of the hunt. He had paid the price with his life for his acts against the gods when they turned him into the creature he roamed the world as now. He was once known as the King of Arcadia, but is now known as Lycaon; King of the werewolves.

"I see your female friend has finally recognized me." Lycaon barked out as he once again started laughing. Hearing this Percy turned to Tal waiting for her answer, but to his displeasure she stayed silent.

"We do not wish to fight you. Let us pass and we shall return the favor, should we ever meet again." Aces expression remained indifferent throughout the whole interaction.

"I can't do that. I respect you for the power you have demonstrated for me; it's not an easy feat to snuff out my nose, but you have done it. But to let you live, I cannot." Lycaon replied, his expression changing from that of arrogance to stoic with a hint of respect.

Percy quietly watched the exchanges between his friend and the mystery monster. He knew they couldn't get on without a fight, but he didn't understand why Ace was making such a big deal about fighting this one monster. He had trained with Ace day in and day out so he knew how cunning and ruthless Ace could be, so he didn't understand this situation. But he finally swallowed the fact that he wasn't going to find out who this was, and he understood that they needed to leave here, and fast. He cut through the tension in the air, deciding to speak for the first time since the beast had arrived. "Ace, we need to get out of here and he obviously won't let us pass. So let me fight him." Percy put his hand in his pocket gripping his miniature sword, ready to go into action.

But before he could take a step forward, Ace put his hand out and stopped him. He gave Ace a questioning look. "I can take him. I am ready."

"I know you are, but how are you going to kill him? Do you have any silver on you?" Ace dropped his stoic visage only to be replaced by a glare.

Percy was confused. Why would they need silver to kill a monster? "Why do we need silver?"

"Someone is behind on their studies I see." The man chuckled.

Percy glared at the man, finally getting a good look at him. He seemed middle aged, with average height. His face was adorned by a thick beard which made it hard to tell what his expression was. The only thing that resembled him to a monster were his ruby red eyes. They shun bright with anger and hatred, though Percy couldn't tell who that was directed at. And one more thing Percy noticed was how the man seemed jittery, like he couldn't stand still. Kids with ADHD were like that, kids like him and his friends. But the thing with ADHD is that if you're a demigod then it gave you astonishing reflexes, one of the things that made demigods such formidable opponents; he had learned that the hard way.

"Percy, do you know who that is?" Ace interrogated, finally turning to face him. He shook his head in response.

"That's Lycaon, king of the werewolves." A gasp was heard from behind them. They looked at their friend Grover to see his uneasy expression be replaced with a frightened one. "We can't kill him unless we have silver. I know you're ready, but you can't fight him. No, let me handle this."

"Why, do you have silver?" Percy asked frowning.

"No but I have something else in mind." He said taking two steps forward. "I guess we can't avoid this. Let us make it quick then." He took his stance; putting his right foot in front and his left hand in back.

When Percy saw that, he thought his friend had lost his mind. A second before Ace was trying to avoid fighting this monster, and now he was going to rush him. This action didn't go unnoticed by Lycaon as he let loose a booming laugh. "Maybe I overestimated you half-blood." He eyes drifted over to Percy. "Or maybe I have the wrong one."

"You won't get the chance to find out." Ace sneered, surging forward. His speed left his foe and friend in stunned silence as he decreased the distance between him and the King of werewolves. Lycaon couldn't react in time as Ace drop kicked him with all of his might in the chest. Lycaon was thrown off his feet as he raced out of the narrow alley, crashing into a car that had the unfortunate luck of being parked right in front of the exit. Ace composed himself, not giving the King a chance to recover, and brought his hands forward in a loud clap, a clap that echoed the sound of thunder going off in the sky.

Air currents rippled in front of him, flying towards Lycaon, who was trying to pull himself out of the smashed car. He didn't get the chance the stand up before the air currents passed through him, making his eyes glaze over.

They watched in amazement as Lycaon's entire body went rigid before going limp and falling to the ground. They stared him struggling on the ground, moaning and grunting. They turned to face Ace, who let out a deep breath and stood straight.

"Come on guys. He won't stay like that forever. We have to get out of here." He said gesturing them forward. Percy slowly walked forward, Tal and Grover following his trail.

"What did you do to him?" Tal asked, acting as if she already didn't know, looking at the old King again.

He too turned to look at the man. "I'm very good at using the mist. It took a lot out of me but I used it to trap him. At the moment he's living his worst nightmare." Ace explained as they stared at him in amazement. He let a small smile escape his lips looking at their expression. But it remained only for a moment before a frown took its place. "But he won't last like that for long. I probably bought us five minutes at most, so we have to get out of here as fast as we can."

He dashed out the exit, making a hard left as his friends followed suit. They ran as fast as their legs could carry them, weaving through the crowd of people, looking a little crazy to the passing mortals. They for a good ten minutes before Ace came to a halt, his friends following his example. "Why are we stopping? Is it another monster?" Grover asked but it was obvious he was a little winded and was grateful for the momentary rest.

Ace was about to reply when he caught Percy looking away to the right. He looked a little conflicted, as if he couldn't decided what he wanted to do. He seemed startled when Ace placed a hand on his shoulder; bring his attention back to them. "Lead the way buddy." Ace said with a smile.
