A/N: PLEASE READ, OVERWISE YOU WILL BE CONFUSED!
I have changed the name of Lestrade's son to Matthew.
They woke up the next morning and were both getting ready for the day with Sherlock's mother. John wore one of his jumpers and his blue jeans. Whilst Sherlock wore his black trousers and a purple shirt.
Sherlock and John were eating breakfast, when Sherlock heard footsteps travelling up the stairs. John looked up from where he was eating and looked to Sherlock. The older man began deducing immediately.
"Too loud to be Mrs Hudson's. If you listen to the noise..." He paused. "The shoes have a slight heel to them and considering that we're going to mummy's it's obvious." The door opened, "Good morning Mycroft. I certainly hope all the cake eating today, won't ruin this diet you've been having for about ten years..." Sherlock trailed off. John smiled.
"Ah Sherlock, as always, you have a very warm welcoming. I just came by to pick you up. Also to make sure that you were up and ready to get a move on." Mycroft responded, whilst making sure his umbrella was okay.
Sherlock sighed, "And what makes you think that John and I need a lift?"
"Well...it's cheaper then a taxi ride isn't it?" Mycroft smiled and Sherlock cursed him. "Are you two ready?" John nodded and the two men jumped up. They all started to walk out of 221B, before that Sherlock quickly picked up the newspaper and left with it.
Outside 221, they saw Mycroft getting into a car with Lestrade at the driving wheel. Sherlock cringed. Why did he have to follow the normality of family gatherings? His mind thought. He also saw a boy in the back of the car. He was a very tall boy and looked as if he was 15.
They all got in the car, Mycroft at the front with Lestrade, as Sherlock, John and the other boy were sat at the back. Lestrade started the conversation,
"Sherlock, John this is my son Matthew." Lestrade smiled at him through the mirror and Matthew smiled nervously at Sherlock and John. He had dark brown hair and wore a checkered jacket. John saw that his jacket had been cut down on the side closest to him. It appeared that half of his arm was missing. John thought this was fascinating, but wouldn't mention it, as it could make the other boy sad. He could be like me? He asked himself, internally. self-consciously Matthew's hand went to that arm, so John stopped looking.
They were half way there, when Mycroft held out his hand at the back. John and Matthew looked confused, however Sherlock sighed.
"Oh for God's sake." He put his hand in his pocket and gave Mycroft the cigarette packet.
Greg sighed, "I thought you were off them?"
Sherlock looked towards John, "I was, ran out off nicotine patches." Mycroft noticed the lie immediately, but didn't mention it.
"Well I have some, if you want to borrow any?" Lestrade smiled. Sherlock grumbled something and Mycroft noticed his younger brother was getting increasingly agitated. They all kept silent, whilst Mycroft observed Sherlock. Sherlock was always like this when he was younger in car journeys. The scrunched up annoyed face, as his fingers and hands began rubbing each other. Mycroft sighed, this is one of the many reasons that he had invented a way to escape to the mind. Or as Sherlock called it his 'Mind Palace'. John's voice interrupted him,
"A-are you already in secondary sch-school?" Nearly everyone turned to John, as Lestrade kept looking at the road and smiled.
Matthew looked at John and with the quietest voice answered. "No, but I start year 8 in September." He tried to smile, but it was filled with a slight fear.
Sherlock then spoke, "That's the same year you will be in September, John."
John's face appeared shocked, "But you're so tall!" Matthew smiled and laughed slightly. "I'm like a-a really really short elf, compared to-to you!"
Smiling still Matthew spoke again,
"Maybe not an elf, if anything maybe a Hobbit..." Greg started laughing at this. Mycroft, Sherlock and John, just stared at them with confusion. Greg paused in laughing and began talking as well.
"Well John you do look like a Baggins...maybe not Frodo, but definitely a Baggins." He then chuckled quietly to himself. Lestrade then looked all around him, at the vacant expressions of the three other men.
"None of you have watched...none of you...really?"
Sherlock sighed, "Obviously not."
Greg then focused on driving again, but a small smile was beginning to form on his face. Mycroft saw this and new that face.
"No we are not watching the film."
"Oh come on...hang on do you even know the name of the films?"
"Oh dear Lord, there's more then one?" Mycroft asked, everyone laughed at this.
Eventually they got to the 'Holmes Manor'. They all shuffled out of the car and walked up to the front door.
Lestrade was about to knock on the door, before he could do that, a women opened it. The women had slight white hair and wore a colourful jacket. Her smile, however, made her stand out the most. It could have made even the saddest person happy. Lestrade also saw the features that matched Mycroft and Sherlock, so assumed this was their mother.
"Hello, Mrs Holmes."
"Oh please call me Sarah." She responded to Lestrade. "You must be Gregory!" She started hugging him. As Lestrade silently whispered 'Greg'. "I would say Mycroft has told me a lot about you, but you know Myc." Greg smiled and nodded.
"This is my son, Matthew." Lestrade signalled to his son. Greg could see Matt getting a bit worried about what Sarah would say.
"Wow he certainly is tall! Taller then me!" Matthew relaxed as she embraced him. Sherlock then spoke up,
"Yes, well, that doesn't take much."
She stopped hugging Matthew and stared at Sherlock.
"And where have you been?"
"I've been busy...solving..."
"And that meant you couldn't tell me that your father and I have a grandchild?" Sherlock's mother interrupted him.
Sherlock squirmed on the spot, "Sorry mummy." He then felt Sarah hugging him.
"All is forgiven." She smiled and let go. "So you're John?" John smiled and nodded and Sarah embraced him as well.
She then welcomed them all in and closed the door. Sarah sighed with content, the family she had always wanted was coming together.
