Tell Me a Story
"T-twenty?"
"There was a massive explosion earlier." I mentioned as we both watched the red flare and one had already been shot off this morning. Our bodies shifted to continue on through the forest as we moved mostly at night and tried to use the moonlight, but the vegetation is thick and the moon only a sliver.
"We should break so I can change your bandage."
"We don't need to waste bandages on such a small wound, idiot." A hand pressed hard to my back as we soon moved to trail off to the right more as we noticed light up ahead and knew better than to get too close. We shifted and was close together as we made our way to the point I almost tripped over a root from how it was so shadowed. I stumbled and then that's when I heard something sing through the air by my ear and I moved to get down behind a tree and dragged Saga with me. No noise left him as I felt him situate against me as I grasped my ear to feel as it barely lined it, only a smidge of blood.
"I can't see a fucking thing." The hiss was heard as I noticed the voice to be of a male named Kuro before a hum out.
"It must have been nothing."
"Are you questioning me, Django?" An uncomfortable cough left the mentioned man before chuckling nervously.
"N-no! But I just figured that some noise would have been made. Let's get back to the camp." Feet shifted around us as we tucked into the tree more as they shifted through. I'm not stupid, I wouldn't attack in a dark place like this, that's wasteful thinking and I would get myself killed if not careful. Plus, Saga would have a fit for even mentioning it with a look, if he could see me, but still a touch of the hand would have him swatting my head.
"Just eighteen brats left." Kuro had always found himself feeling superior to everyone else even though we were roughly the same age. The other guy with him, I wouldn't be surprised if he died soon enough because Kuro was that kind of guy. He didn't seem to care for friends or any companionship like that. Heck, I remember him trying to woo Kaya at some point and this guy named Usopp would be so angry about it.
Oh gods, Usopp… he's one of Luffy's friends. And the past few times I saw him, Luffy has been alone. Did… did he lose Usopp already? Was the story teller of a friend gone? I had almost hoped that they just hadn't found each other yet, but… that was a bit to ask for.
A hand tugged me out of my thoughts as I began moving along away from the retreating men. Saga carried a worried aura as we moved around and it took a while of silence to deem a spot good enough. Some thick vegetation found us with thorns and we began to burrows into the spot for the night. With minor scratches and hoping that no poison ivy was in here, we settled back to back. It was either that or thorns in your back and I will have to pass on that.
"You first." The words left him as I soon snorted lightly out before nodding. A sigh left him as I settled against him a little more heavily and began to shut off my mind to get some rest.
When it was morning and we had already set off, we came across some blackberry bushes and noticed that others had picked from them too and was able to slip through to one with some on it. We ate what we could and discussed how we need to find a spot near a stream to refill. Saga mentioned something about going a certain way as he had a feeling that it would be a good direction. I trust that sense and ate my full since berries are hard to carry around. We didn't have anything to store them in and suddenly a thought found me.
"Let's use one of the empty canteens." A surprised look appeared on his face as he smiled before nodding. We decided to fill our two empty canteens so we could eat later and they fit a good amount. After finishing up and having the bag straps fixed on us we shifted to begin heading off in the direction he pointed out.
We have been lucky so far, with only few encounters and not having to kill many people and it set heavily on my shoulders. It was wearing me down and I began to wonder when this Hell would end. Roughly twenty are remaining, as we can only guess that until the next flare, and I couldn't understand some people. I may be serious and make sure I follow through, but some of them enjoyed this sickening game. It gagged me with bile pushing at the reflex and I swallowed harshly whenever I peered to the people I had to kill. Most is out of self-defense with an exception of that creep who molested the girls like that.
Speaking of the girls, I wonder if Kohza is still alive. It's hard to say and I began to wonder if I actually wanted to know. He probably hates my guts the most and at this point wouldn't hesitate to try and kill me. My shoulder throbbed to remind me of how I took the blow without thought. It showed that even though I wouldn't hesitate to kill him if for dire need, but I still hesitate to believe he would turn on us so easily. Maybe it was best to not run into the man again.
Who knows if he has gone mad?
We made our way to the point that Saga heard the stream and found a cozy spot of moss along a log. Our bags shifted to a bit in the cove of the log and he began mentioning about the stream to a certain direction and we rested. Berries found us again with water as we were close to a source so we didn't worry too much. Not like there was a lot to begin with since it had been a while since we found a water source and most people already dead had been ransacked.
"Tell me about him."
"Huh?"
"Luffy, tell me about him…" Eyes peered to me as I noticed that he was trying to lighten up the mood and I hummed with a hand rubbing my neck.
"Well, I have already told you—"
"Tell me again then, I drone you out sometimes." My eyes rolled at the words and soon snorted as he was being sarcastic, though maybe slightly serious. A sigh left me as I knew he was trying to distract us for the moment, just for this moment at least.
"Alright, Luffy… he's like… a ray of sunshine." A snort made me glare as he covered his mouth. "It's true, idiot. He always made my day," I looked down with a smile finding me. "Even when it felt like he would pester me to death, I would miss that when he would leave. I don't know when I started falling for the guy, but…"
"Oh, you remember." A gag noise was made and this had me cover my mouth to chuckle out.
"Okay, I do remember. Did you want me to tell it again?"
"Tell me a story, mommy!" The humor had me snort with a roll of my eyes before this contemplating look was on him and he tapped his chin with a hum in thought. "Well, I mean, I guess since its funny hearing you admit to it." A glare left me as he laughed lightly before waving a hand out and I patted my leg.
"Alright, gather around for this story, kids." This snort found him at my returned humor before thinking back to the day when it finally hit me.
[Flashback]
"Thanks again," a grin was up at me as I soon patted a hand against a shoulder with a wince to my sore leg.
"No problem, the guy is too annoying for his own good." A laugh shuddered out of him as we faced a couple guys helping Bellamy, a junior, get up. The three guys were beat up pretty badly, Bellamy the worst and I felt a shoulder bump me.
"You took both guys though!"
"Well, I'm sure Bellamy wasn't easy by himself." I mentioned as I felt a sudden flutter in my chest as arms went around my neck.
"You are the super best, Zoro! Let's go out sometime!" Adrenaline pumped through me once again as I felt heat tingle my skin as I kept arms out and stared in confusion.
"Wh-what? Go out?"
"Yeah, Usopp and I like to go hang out at the arcade a lot!" This sudden realization found me at the actual meaning behind his words and this sting of disappointment found me.
"Sounds good." A smile found me as I figured it was better than nothing at all. He wiggled around and I had to avoid the head and suddenly support the other body as legs wrapped around my waist.
"I'm hungry~!"
"You're always hungry!" A laugh left him as I glared to him and tried to keep us balanced. This sudden laughter left me as we fell to the ground and though I was cursing, fits still left me as I tried to scold the other.
[Flashback End]
"Always so touching!" A finger flicked away nonexistent tears that caused me to roll my eyes at such a thing.
"You asked for it."
"Well, that's because my brother from another mother doesn't usually get all fluffy with stuff." A shrug left him as if it was the most obvious answer on this planet and I rubbed a temple with a palm.
"Not like I can help liking him, idiot." This finger suddenly pointed as he grinned widely and I raised an eyebrow.
"Ha! Got you to admit to it again!" Heat flared to my cheeks as I cursed to him for doing such a thing and he laughed softly at the humor of it all. My eyes found the sky as I noticed dark angry clouds starting to roll in.
"I should get the water before it gets dark and starts storming." I mentioned out whilst standing up and he waved a hand out with an empty canteen and his partial filled one.
"Hurry back, smells like it will be bad." The words left him as I soon shifted to grasp his and I gathered mine whilst pouring our stock of berries in the pile with his.
"That way?" A finger pointed out as he suddenly covered his mouth and I growled to him lightly so he could point another direction. "Shove it, Saga." A muffled laugh left him as I was smiling and soon moved the correct direction to go fill our canteens.
Thu-thump-p.
"O-oi…" The canteens had fallen from my hands as the grass before me showed only crushed berries and blood. I felt panic rise and adrenaline pumped through my ears as one of the bags had been ransacked and I gulped a lump in my throat when he wasn't in sight.
Saga!
