Battle Royale

Promise

At least two others were out there since we figured the gunshots was someone killing the other, especially when the blood curling scream had cut off. We needed to finish this fight, so we headed for the direction that we heard the gun. Luffy took to the trees mostly as I moved along the forest floor with ears straining. Obviously I was doing a good job since I heard the soft patters of feet in the treetops. The sound of a bird call had me stop and push against a tree and I heard rustling from above. Luffy saw something and I gripped my sword that I had out already. No need to sheathe it since who knows how desperate the other two are.

The vegetation across from me was disturbed and suddenly the glimmer of a blade came at me. My body rolled out of the way as I brought my blade up to clash with metal before letting my eye widen in surprise.

"Kohza!" I spoke out as he soon pulled away with gritted teeth and seemed to lightly relax as he looked around.

"Where's Saga?" A strain went through me as I winced with my lips thinning out and he looked surprised. "He's?" This stiff nod left me before a thump was made behind me and eyes flicked to the figure. A sword readied against the male and I held a hand out in a protective stance. "Wha? Was it him?!"

"No! Of course not!" I spoke out harshly as I felt a body press against me and this had me recognize his awareness. "What is it?"

"Someone not too far in a meadow."

Shit, I don't want to kill Kohza.

"You are working with him then?" A slight anger was in Kohza's eyes as I held up my sword towards him with a glare.

"I'm sorry, I promised Saga." The promise was mainly with myself, but when I had hid the man's body, I said that I promised to get Luffy out alive. It was just as a big deal of a promise if my friend was still alive. Out of anyone left at the time it would have been hands down Saga and Luffy, now I have to make sure Luffy gets out alive.

"Are you going to kill me then?"

"I don't want too!" I spoke out harshly as I seen the cold in his eyes and I noticed the splattered blood on him, not his. "We could always try to find a way!" The words left me as he soon shifted to charge at me and I blocked the sword with mine and he growled out.

"THERE CAN ONLY BE TWO!" The shout had me push Luffy away and begin twirling to get a strike in at the other. My axe strapped to my leg was reached for and I kicked him harshly.

Bang!

"Ngh!" A gurgling noise was heard after the initial grunt and I turned to see Luffy lower his bow to grasp his injured leg. The other guy struggled for the arrow in his throat with flails and I turned to block the sword.

"Focus on me!" A grunt left me as we whirled our blades, him only at an advantage because of my blind spot.

If we were to do this fairly then I would win hands down, in kendo practice he used to get frustrated on how better I was. Though in this twisted game it didn't matter on only skill, it balanced with your will to survive too. A battle cry would leave him as he swung hard at me and it was then I realized all his openings. My thoughts ran a mile a minute as I kept finding them on demand, but my hands wouldn't cooperate. I didn't want to hurt Kohza, I didn't want to kill him. No matter the low amount of trust I put into the male, he was a friend of mine. Someone to joke around with and laugh about our adventures.

I hesitated.

"F-fuck!" The blade swiped up from my hip to my shoulder and I staged back whilst regaining my balance. Pain seared through my being as I began to shake.

"Zoro!" A blade collided with mine as Kohza was pushing me down to kneel as the pain flared through my veins.

"I'm going to live! I will survive unlike my father!" The crazed eyes only glinted with power as I suddenly felt it flow into me.

Realization.

Kohza is willingly to kill me with no mercy, no hesitation. This meant he was no longer classified as my friend and I growled out to him with angry tears prickling at the corner of my eye. In a losing battle from how much blood I was losing, an arrow soon struck through his eye. He pulled back with a screech whilst swinging around as he grasped at the arrow. "You little bitch!" Using the moment to finally commit with the thoughts of merely protection from an enemy, not a friend. My blade sliced through his throat and part of his arm since he was still grasping at his face. Curses started to gargle out as he fell to the ground with desperate attempts to grasp his throat for salvage.

"Zoro!" Hands caught me as I stumbled and was soon sitting with him holding me up. Arms strained to drag me up against a tree to soon strip his shirt off and suddenly the pressure made me whimper. "Just hang on." The sound of helicopters were in the air as Luffy pressed to my wound and I slowly found myself gripping shoulders tightly.

"W-we did it." The words came out in pained filled breaths and tears were forming in his eyes as he held his spot.

"I-I know, we did!" The body trembled as I let hands release him to relax more and he smiled. "We survived Zoro…"

"Oh? I'm a little surprised." A voice of our math teacher was in the air as the man stood with arms crossed.

"It's seems you lost the bet, Lucci." The woman approached with a hand tucking hair behind an ear and gave us a look. "One seems on the brink though." I gritted teeth at seeing their faces and how a couple people in armed suits stood a bit behind them.

"We have a proposition." A confused grunt left me as Luffy turned his head with questioning on him. "Finish him off and we will spare next year's class of sophomores." Shock found me at the words and Luffy stuttered out breaths.

"Wh-what?"

"Next year at this rate will be next, don't you have friends in it?" This glint of pure evil was in those grey eyes as he was doing this on purpose to get at Luffy.

"Y-you said two winners! We are the last two!" The brunette shouted before me as he was shaking and I cringed with a sudden cough finding me. "H-he needs a doctor!" My blood soaked his shirt as he tried to desperately stop it.

"Decide."

"I can't decide between my friends, you bastard!" A foot found Luffy in the face as he was kicked away and I shifted towards the male.

"L-Luffy! Ngh!" The foot dug into my wound and I growled with a glare up at the teacher who smirked widely.

"This year is different, this year only one can survive or next year it will only be one." A hand brought out a gun as he quickly cocked it and held it up to my head. "Should it be you? It would be wise since you are already halfway there." Pants were leaving me from the lack of blood and suddenly the gunshot caught me off guard. "You little—!" I noticed the man grab at his arm and I soon grasped his leg to throw him down and shift to desperately scramble away. Luffy grabbed me in a protective hold as I heard his gasping breaths leaving him.

"I pick Zoro!" The shout left him as he held tightly with trembles violently finding him. "He needs a doctor!"

"Lucci, that's enough. It's been decided." The woman spoke out as I glanced to her to see those blue eyes show pity and light concern. A protest left the man, but moved away back to where they probably came from. "Get them both to the helicopters." The two armed men shifted to us as I heard a quiet protest from Luffy before I was slung over a shoulder with a shout of pain, but they merely ignored me.

"J-just hang on!" Luffy spoke out as I could hear his desperation and merely coughed roughly as I tried to ignore the pain. We found the helicopter where I was just tossed and luckily Luffy was there to hold me. A towel was held out from our female teacher and hands desperately grabbed it before pushing it against my wound. I felt feverish as I let hands grab trembling ones as I rested with eyes closing. "Just a little longer, please."
