This is it, time to go... Alphonse grabbed his gloves, shoved his hands in them then left out of the door and to the field.

"Al, wait up!" Al turned around to see Tamaki racing up behind him. "Al, where are you going?"

"Tamaki, I really think you should stay back." Al shifted uncomfortably.

"Nah, I'm good. where are you going?"

"Well, you know that mission I'm sending you guys on?"

"It's a fake. I know, the others don't though."

"How did you...?"

"May told me. She thinks you'll need help with the actual mission." Tamaki smiled his arrogant smile as usual.

"Fine, if she sent you then you can come." Al nodded and walked away in a very "Ed like" manner.

"Hey, Al, what was your brother like?" Tamaki suddenly asked as they passed the cemetery. Al looked over at Tamaki for a moment, considering the question. Al hadn't really talked about his brother since, you know, so it was obvious that this was a hard question.

"Well, I guess in some ways he was like you. He doesn't know how to show he cares, though he does. He was insensitive though, but he always tried to do the right thing. He had a short temper and would beat up anyone who called him short." Al said with a sort of twinkle in his eyes, he really looked up to his brother.

"Hm, so I guess he was a good person?" Tamaki asked.

"Well, I wouldn't say he was the nicest of guys, but relatively he was a good guy I guess." Al sighed as he shoved his hands into his pockets. The two continued to walk with a heavy silence surrounding them.

"So, why do bad things happen to good people?" Tamaki, the master of interesting questions at interesting times.

"Why do you ask?" Al asked, taking the question a lot better than the one about Ed.

"Well Winry had asked me the other day and I told her I would find an answer for her." Tamaki sighed and stopped walking, his eyes sad and his shoulders slumped. His baggy blue t-shirt seemed to swallow him up and trap him inside of his messy head.

"Oh..." Al stopped a little ways ahead of Tamaki, lost in thought. He had no idea why bad things had to happen to people, good or bad. What if he never found out, what if he had to spend the rest of his life questioning Truth? Would he be okay like that, always searching for an answer that seemed to be just up ahead?

Al suddenly stopped in his tracks, making Tamaki bump into him. Al pointed with a shaky hand at the clearing.

In the clearing was at least half of the Ouran Academy's student body. They all seemed to be building this huge machine, adding on towers and bulbs and a fence around the whole thing. The clearing used to be green with grass and flowers of all kinds, but today it matched the sky, dull and dead. The sickly yellow grass crunched under Al's feet as he made his way slowly towards the machine.

"What is that thing?" Tamaki asked in a quiet voice as they got closer to the people in the clearing.

"It's a mind control thing. So far it only works on people who have been injected with a special substance.

"Though if they finish it, it'll work on all of Amestris. I'm here to destroy it. Winry says that she has gotten enough of the machinery destroyed, but I need to finish i- Look out!" Al suddenly clapped his hands and pressed them to the ground, creating an alchemical wall from the ground.

"I see, well can you make me a staff? I'll fight them while you go destroy it?" Tamaki suggested. Al nodded, he quickly made a staff and handed it to Tamaki. With a nod they ran their separate ways, Tamaki left and Al right.

The battle started with a girl in a tattered pink blouse and a short pink skirt came up and threw a punch at Al, hitting him in the jaw. Al fell backwards and rubbed his jaw, dang that hurt, he felt the whole left side of his face slowly turning red and raw from the hit and it felt as his someone had put molasses on his cheek, wait, was his face bleeding?! Al looked over that the girl and saw that she had metal knuckles on her hand, that explains the striking pain in his cheek and the blood.

Al got up quickly and grabbed the girl's arm. With a quick yank he pulled the girl to the ground and then left her there, stunned and possibly a bruise, but not too hurt. Al didn't want to hurt any of the kids, they weren't doing this of their own free will after all.

Al ran the hundred yards from his wall to the machine without any more fights. Then, he came across,

"Reine?" He asked in disbelief, he knew that no more students were taken from Ouran after Haruhi, so why was she here?

"Didn't you get my note? Figures the hosts would keep it from you." Reine responded. She reached into the pocket of her jeans and pulled out a knife. "Too bad they can't protect you now." Al suddenly realized that Reine was evil.

"I don't want to fight you, I know you're just being controlled li-" Reine cut him off with a sinister laugh.

"How cute! You think I'm just like these worthless zombies that your precious king is fighting! Adorable!" She laughed some more then lunged at Al, jabbing the knife into his shoulder, "I can't hurt that pretty face of yours, it's the only thing you've got going for you." She purred into his ear as she yanked the knife from his shoulder. She threw him back with a simple push on his left shoulder, right on the stab.

Al stumbled away from her with a painful grunt, she sure knew how to hurt a guy. Al swayed from the pain, he say large white spots dancing around his vision and he found it hard to stand up. He collapsed on the ground.

"Oh come on, Alphonse! Surely being stuck as a suit of armor for five and a half years didn't make you so weak that you couldn't stand a little blood loss!" Reine taunted as she ran off to find Tamaki.

Now's my chance. Al got up from the ground and stood on two shaky legs, quickly he jumped the fence and ran to the base of the machine. He scanned the area for the entrance or control panel or something that he had to destroy. Then a shimmer caught his eye, a silver door knob. He grinned in success and pulled it open and ran inside, time to destroy some stuff!

~Tamaki P.O.V~

Tamaki saw Al throw a girl to the ground without a second thought, why had he ever wanted him in the host club?

A boy ran at Tamaki and threw a rock at him. Luckily Tamaki had found the time to duck and then swept the staff under the boy's feet, dragging him to the ground. Tamaki didn't have time to celebrate for a girl with messy hair and a tattered Ouran dress grabbed him from behind and pulled him to the ground. Tamaki started to panic, what was he supposed to, hit her? No! That was against the code of the hosts! The girl had Tamaki in a choke hold, squeezing the life out of him.

"ENOUGH!" Suddenly Tamaki could breathe again, he sucked in air like his life depended on it, which it does. The weight that was holding him down was gone and he got up and spun on his heel, ready to fight. When he saw who was strangling the girl he dropped his weapon, he couldn't believe who his savior was.

"Hi, Sempi!" Haruhi called as she dropped the unconscious girl to the ground. Tamaki felt so relieved that she was safe he could have hugged her, though he was distracted by having to punch another guy in the face.

"Haruhi? How, what? HARUHI!" He cried, his little Haruhi was safe, they seemed to be winning, nothing could ruin his day until...

Pain, it shot down his back and ran up to his head. He felt the pain all gather in his shoulder and the thing causing the pain seemed to dig around inside the wound, as if it was looking for something in Tamaki. His vision started to fade as he crumpled to the ground. He heard Haruhi scream his name, not "Sempi" but "Tamaki" then he smiled as the world slipped away to black.

~Al P.O.V.~

Al's shoulder kindly reminded Al that it was hurt as he finally made it to the top of the staircase. Four hundred stairs, large stairs. Al was ready to blank out from the pain but he didn't as he made his way over to the control panel. He placed his hands onto it to steady himself as he started to fall over.

"Concentrate, you only need to destroy it." He told himself as he clapped his shaking hands together and then pressed them to the cold metal control panel. Instantly blue lightning spread from his hands and jumped around on top of the surface.

When the lightning stopped Al lifted his hands and sighed in relief, now we can leave and Winry and Haruhi wi- that's not a good sound..

There was a sound of gears stopping then grinding together, the popping of sparks as they flew off of the circuits. Al knew that this wasn't the sound it was supposed to make.

Loud noises screamed in Al's ear as the machine exploded, a large chunk of metal fell on top of Al, crushing the life out of him.

Al woke up in a bright room, it was pure white with nothing around him, he knew where he was.

"Am I dead again?" Al called into the white void of a room that he was in.

"Again? What do you mean again?" A pure white figure suddenly appeared in front of Al, Truth.

"Yes again, I've died about three times! Like actually died!" Al pointed out to the figure.

"Oh! Oh, I remember you now. You're the little brother of the young Al-ke-mest that tried to un-die. You look different..."

"I've died!"

"Yes, that's it. Well, technically no." Truth mused the fact over as he sat cross-legged on floor. Al mimicked the movement with a confused look.

"What do you mean?"

"Well, you can still go back, but I'm not the one to explain that to you." Truth nodded to the person behind Al. Al jumped to his feet and spun on his heel.

"Hey, Al." Ed greeted cheerfully as he waved at his shocked brother. Ed started to laugh in his wonderful loud laugh that made you feel lighter and loved even if he was laughing at you. Al missed that laugh and the smiles that came with it.

"Ed? How are you...?" Al crumpled to his knees and started to cry. The tears leaving him like a flood. He didn't care though, Ed would be the only one to see him like this, ever.

"Hey, hey. It's alright." Ed said gently as he knelt neck to the younger boy and placed a hand gently on his back.

"But, you have to go now."

Al looked up, his tears turned from joy and relief and confusion to outrage, "What do you mean?!"

"I mean that You can still go back to your life, but you could also stay here." Ed explained as he sat cross-legged in front of his brother. He hadn't changed a bit, actually he looked younger, like he was only fifteen again. The braid, the coat and the eager spark in his eyes was all back. Though, the eager spark told of eagerness for Alphonse to choose the right choice.

"Right, but if I stay I could be with you and Mom and Dad again. If I go, I can be with everyone else and I'll pretend you are with me..." Al mused his choices over and it was hard, give up something for a different thing.

"Al, before you make your decision may I just say that when I died, I never truly died, I just went on a trip. I still knew everything you did, I watched you and Winry and everyone else and I miss them. I truly think that if you stay you would miss them too. Plus Tamaki is nothing like me... well maybe a little." Al let out a hearty laugh and smiled through his tears. He raised his hand to wipe them away then nodded.

"Okay, I'm ready." Al stood and then announced to the two others in the room, "I'm ready to go back to life."

"That was easier than I thought." Truth and Ed said in shocked unison.

"But first I need to know two things: Did we win and Ed, do you love Winry?" Al addressed both questions to his brother. Ed just nodded understandingly.

"Yes and Yes, with all my heart. I feel so stupid that I never told her how I felt or anything, not even that her automail was better than anyone elses." Ed said regretfully.

"Good. Now I know her tears weren't wasted and I can leave you in peace." Al nodded to Ed, then suddenly threw his arms around his brother, one final hug. Ed returned his hug and ruffled his brother's hair.

"Miss ya, Alphonse."

"Miss you too, Shortie." Al laughed as his brother started ranting about how he wasn't short or anything of the sorts.

"Truth, next time I see you, I'll actually be dead." Al said as he waved goodbye to Truth.

"I'm looking forward to that day." Truth smiled in that creepy way then waved his hand and Al woke up.

"ALPHONSE! YOU'RE OKAY!" May screamed as she glomped him then kissed him.

"Well there's the boy who has killed two people with one explosive!" Said a voice Al hadn't heard in a long time.

"Roy?" Al asked when May finally let go and he looked around until he saw the man strutting up to the wreckage of the machine Al had just came out of.

"Yeah, you killed the Mastermind, who was going up to the control panel at the time of the explosion, and his daughter, who was following him. Good job." Roy smiled and patted Al on the back.

Al collapsed from too much blood loss. He was then rushed to the hospital.

~Four peaceful years later~

Al was coming home from work that day, he worked as a farmer and Winry's Automail manager guy thing (as she called the job) and he recently went out to see how one of her patients was feeling after his surgery.

He stopped as he passed the train station and he saw a tall blonde man running over to him.

"Tamaki!" He called as he waved to the figure.

"Hey, Alphonse! Good to see you. Can't wait for tonight!' He winked as he handed Alphonse a small plastic bag with a small red velvet box inside of it.

"Thanks so much for getting me this! And you are in charge of music, Man." Al laughed as the two headed to a small field with a piano and a table set for two. Another figure waited there for them.

"Sorry I'm late, May. I had to pick up the music player." Al apologized as he sat at the table and smiled at his date.

"It's fine, though I don't understand why you set up a table..."May questioned because they had dinner before Al went to do the patient check-up.

"Because it felt right." Al said matter-of-factly as he reached into the bag and got down on one knee. "Just like us. I can't live without you and I know that it took forever for one of us to get the courage to ask the other out so, please? Marry me?" He asked, blushing the whole time.

May was stunned, she was smiling and blushing and was so happy. She nodded then spoke the one quiet word: "Yes!"

Maybe stories do have happy endings after all...
