Christine has second thoughts after leaving the opera house with Raoul, but is it too late? April 20th will be the anniversary of my first POTO fan fic. I reached a million words a couple of weeks ago about my favorite couple - both as POTO and LND. Thought I would revisit the ending of the musical from a new perspective.

After overcoming a childhood filled with abuse, young adulthood plagued by shame, and a lifetime of solitude, Erik finds himself married to the woman he adores. A mysterious box sent thirty years ago to his cousin raises questions and stirs the ghost never far behind, while two men resurrect the horrors of his time in Persia, and an acquaintance from long ago unexpectedly returns.

One thing leads to another, and Hanna agrees to participate in an experiment: Past Life Regression. However, something goes terribly wrong, as Hanna wakes up in the presence of a phantom who is visibly not amused by her appearance.

After the Final Lair Christine realizes that she has had enough of *both* of her suitors. She therefore breaks up with Raoul and goes home to Sweden to think about what she really wants to do with her life. She will eventually encounter Erik again. Will she give him another chance? E/C

Christine agrees to marry Erik after the terrible events of the novel and Erik decides he deserves his happy ending. As they flee Paris, they learn how to love each other in the ways they need. Love is more complex and strange than we can ever know. We don't choose who we love, but love can grow.
