A cardboard box sat on the metal table in the lab. Inside were letters that Ari had kept, all of which were from Kate. Abby stood, ceremoniously lifting the top off the box, pulling out stacks of letters, and spreading them across the table, preparing to read them. She hadn't been expecting a breakthrough on her little case last time, but now she knew what she was dealing with. This time would be different- these were letters from her late friend.
She read through every letter, and they all lined up with Ari's. She picked up the last letter and was immediately puzzled. It was heavier than the rest, and a lot thicker. On it was a stamp that read 'RETURN TO SENDER'. Curious, Abby opened it slowly and out fell a white gold ring with a diamond atop it. Ari had wanted to settle down, move to the states, marry Kate and help her raise their child, but Kate rejected him. Why? Abby thought. In fact, she was so lost in thought, she didn't hear McGee come in.
"Abby?" he repeated. "What are you working on?"
She snapped back to reality. "Just a case." In a swift movement, she gathered the letters and placed them back in the box.
"What case?"
"My case. Now get off it!" She countered, patience wearing.
"Alright. Got anything on Bodnar?"
"I'm working on a lead… kinda."
"Well, I guess… I'll leave you to it."
