Chapter 22: That which is revealed.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" Stefan asked as we got out the car. We are at Silas mansion again.
"No I'm not but I know so little of my family any kind of insight would be appreciated." Lexi said as she and Stefan walked towards the front door. Before either of them could think of knocking on the door though it was opened by none other than Silas himself and he was standing in the doorway with a smug smile on his face.
"Hello again." He said moving aside so that they could walk in.
"Why do you look like me?" Stefan asked Silas as soon they were in the dining room.
"Well actually you look like me… I am much older then you and as you has seen there is an abnormality in our world known as a doppelganger."
"Like Katherine or Elena?" Stefan asked.
"Yes or like you and me." Silas said smiling at Stefan.
"What do you know about my family?" Lexi asked after a few minutes on silence.
"Getting right to the point then." Silas said looking over to Lexi who was sitting on the couch opposite from him and next to Stefan.
"I knew your mother; we were friends." Silas said staring into space.
"What? Why would she be friends with you?" Lexi asked not believing a word of it.
"I was rather fond of your mother; she was kind to me even when she found out what I was she didn't run away of scream."
"She knew you aren't human?" Lexi asked.
"Yes I wanted to know me for all that I am." Silas explained.
"Why would you go through all that trouble?" Stefan asked.
"Because he was in love with her." Lexi said looking at the floor.
"Yes I was… but I knew that Ann's heart belonged to another."
"You use my mother's nickname when you speak of her." Lexi said standing up and walking over to the fireplace.
"How is that of any importance?" Silas asked confused.
"It means she trusted you most people knew her as Annabel." Lexi said.
"As I said your mother and I were very close."
"What happened to her?" Lexi asked.
"I don't know… I know about the group that came into town and that she disappeared the day they arrived but I don't know what happened to her."
"Did you look for her?" Stefan asked before Lexi could.
"Yes I did… for years I searched for her but it was as if she had just simply disappeared into thin air." Silas explained.
"Is that possible?" Lexi asked turning to face the two men staring at her.
"Is what possible?" Silas asked.
"For someone to just disappear of the face of the planet."
"I don't know… I thought that perhaps she was taken by the group of nomadic vampires but she was not."
"How do you know?" Stefan asked.
"I haunted them all down and none of them knew of her or had even heard of here." Silas explained.
"But?" Lexi asked.
"Pardon?" Silas said.
"There is more to that story then what you are letting on so please share with the class."
"You have the same personality of your mother… very observant."
"I have another question then seeing as you aren't going to answer that one if you were so madly in love with my mother why didn't you just kill my father and marry her?" Lexi asked walking back to towards the couch were she was previously sitting.
"I loved to much to do that to her… I asked to marry me once told her we could run away and be together forever." Silas said sadly,
"She said no?" Stefan asked.
"She said she was already in love and that she could never leave your father he was the love of her life."
"Did you get angry at her?" Lexi asked noticing that he became more and sad throughout the conversation.
"No I understood that she loved him for that is how I loved her." Silas said.
"Is that why you kidnapped Caroline?" Stefan asked.
"Yes I had seen you and you looked so much like your mother I thought for a second you were but then the other one, Kol I believe called you Lexi and I know she must have been your mother." Silas said looking between Stefan and Lexi.
"Why not just talk to me?" Lexi asked.
"I knew you wouldn't listen to anything I have to say so I kidnapped the blond girl knowing that you would come to rescue her and I would be able to talk to you." Silas explained looking into the fire which was in the fire place.
"Can I talk to Silas alone for a second?" Lexi asked Stefan.
"I don't think that's a good idea." Stefan said.
"You need not worry about her safety Stefan I won't lay a hand on her." Silas said walking over to table next to the fire place and pouring to glasses of scotch.
"I'll be right outside." Stefan said getting up and walking out of the room. Lexi waited for the front door to close before she spoke.
"What is it that you wish to discuss with me in private?" Silas asked.
"You are portrayed as a monster without a heart and soul… I've been told plenty of stories about you throughout my life." Lexi said standing up.
"And now that you have spent some time with me what do you believe?" Silas asked handing Lexi a glass.
"I see a broken and hurt man… I can see by the way that you speak about my mother that you loved her very much." Lexi said before taking a sip of her drink.
"I loved her more the life itself." Silas said.
"Then why do people only know about the horrible things you have done."
"It's easier going through life when everyone is scared of you."
"You'd rather be called a monster then man?" Lexi asked looking at her glass.
"Yes that how I keep from falling apart at the idea that your mother is died." Silas said finishing his drink and walking back to the couch.
"I see a monster inside you but I also see a heart broken who has lost the love of his life and is something I can relate too." Lexi said sitting down next to Silas.
"How could you possibly know how I feel?"
"I lost the love of my life a while ago."
"I'm sorry Lexi may I asked what happened?"
"He was murdered two days after her had asked me to marry him." Lexi said.
"Do you know by whom?" Silas asked.
"No I don't know for certain." Lexi said.
"I am very sorry that you had to lose him Lexi you will find life isn't really worth living anymore."
"I know the feeling but I have people who I know need me as much I need the so I can't give up on living my life."
"You mean Stefan?"
"He is one of them yes I suggest you fine someone or something else to live for Silas." Lexi said standing up and finishing her drink.
"Such as what" Silas asked walking Lexi to the front door.
"I don't know."
"Why did you wish to speak to me alone?"
"Stefan doesn't that I'm not dealing with Lee death so I didn't want him in the room."
"You can't live in denial forever." Silas said opening the door for Lexi.
"Right now denial is the only thing keeping me sane." Lexi said walking through the door way and to the car.
