(Yes! It is back! :D I had no inspiration for a looong time there, and I apologize. Here is the last chapter of the Nellis fic, and hopefully ANOTHER series to come in which YOU send me ideas in which you are credited, and I put them all together to make a literal fan fiction… )
After the couple had made love, Nick jumped awake when the sun shone through the small circle window in their shared room, gasping and almost choking on his own spit. "Fuck…" With a disgruntled grunt, Nick looked at Ellis, his head having been resting on Ellis' chest. "Kid, wake u-" He stopped himself from finishing the sentence and stared at Ellis, slowly sliding out from his muscular grasp and pulling on his clothes. He remembered that they had had sex last night and that they were safe now, having not a worry in the world as long as they stayed on the ship. But…he didn't want to stay. Mostly because he didn't trust any of the damned nurses. And because he felt the zombies could IN FACT swim, and that Ellis had only meant to try and keep him calm. No. They were getting off of this ship as soon as possible.
Ellis heard the rustling of Nick putting his clothes on and turned over onto his stomach, holding the crisp-white clean pillow close to his face and inhaling the scent. "Nick…? What cha doin'?" Slowly, he opened his eyes and watched Nick for a few seconds, then sat up quickly. "Yer leavin', ain't cha…?" He didn't know why THAT thought came to mind—maybe it was the motion of Nick putting on his clothing in such a hurry without having woken Ellis up. That would make anyone think they were leaving without a word—abandoning them.
Nick looked at Ellis with a small smile and sat on the bed once he had his now-clean suit on and looked at him. "Not without you. The broads were nice enough to wash our clothes. I thought blood didn't come out of white clothing?" Apparently it did…somehow. Maybe a few hints of a stain here and there, but you really had to be looking for it in order to see it. He watched Ellis examine his suit, gently pulling at it to try and see the stains, then…pointing them out like only ELLIS would do.
"There's one Nick…right there, ya see it? And this one? They didn't clean it very good, did they?" Taking interest in the stains, Ellis grabbed his own clothing and examined them. "I don't see none on mine! Hahahaha!" He bragged to Nick, smiling widely that cute country-boy smile that made girls woo over him. "Did you tell them that we're leavin'?"
"Well of course not dumbass…! That's the damn point. We're going to leave…because I KNOW almost all of the zombies are almost dead now. They have to be—thanks to YOURS TRULY." Nick pointed to himself and slicked his hair back. "I will miss this shit though…them caring for us instead of us fighting to survive. We should get some breakfast first. Then try to steal some damn weapons and supplies." Nick had had this entire thing planned out since last night as he laid in Ellis' arms, staring at the moon-lit ceiling and listening to Ellis breathe, and his heart beat so calmly. God this boy had made him fall hard…unexpectedly.
After eating some breakfast and socializing only a bit with other survivors, Ellis and Nick made their way through the ship, much like ninjas in the way they would be careful as to not be caught sneaking. It was a bit hard with all of the security people and nurses walking around though, but somehow they managed to fight for their freedom, literally, and knock out two security guards and steal their uniforms so they could go un-detected as they exited the ship.
Once dressed in the uniforms, Ellis held the gun he had obtained close to his body and looked at Nick. "Damn...good lookin' Nick! Ya think we should head to the deck or...what?" He paused as Nick gave him a dirty look. "Ellis...they'll know it's you if you keep talking in that damn hick accent. Change it. Try to talk like me or something. I'm SURE you can do that."
The southerner frowned a bit and attempted to sound gruff and normal, still a lisp and slight accent on his voice wavered through when he spoke. "This is the best I can do, Nick. It just feels wrong, man..." Nick, in return, glared at him and headed out of the room they had forced the security in to with Ellis close behind him.
They made their way through the ship with ease, keeping their heads bowed slightly. Such stupid people on this ship, really...it was a bit annoying at how easily they could escape. As for weapons, food, and stuff...they'd go somewhere where it had been cleaned of zombies and infection and just live on their own. They'd build their own home and create a life as a couple.
Of course the ship would have small life-boats, like Titanic, to get off of the ship and row to shore. As they headed to the side of the boat to get into a boat, a few other survivors drew attention to them, asking what two security guards were doing leaving. Nick simply answered, "there are more survivors in the middle of the ocean...so we were told to go get them. We'll be okay. Stay here." It was slightly believable...enough to make the others leave them alone!
"Uh...Nick? That was a bit too easy." Ellis got into the boat and Nick lowered it, having offered to be the one to lower it into the ocean and dive in the water to be with Ellis afterwards. "Shut it, Overalls." Nick watched him disappear as he lowered him, slowly smiling as he knew that their lives would be forever changed from this point on.
He dove into the ocean and climbed into the boat, hugging Ellis tightly and kissing on his neck gently as freedom rang loudly in his ears in the form of waves lapping against the side of their little boat that would lead them into the promised land of a better future for just the two of them.
The End...for now.
