Dylan startled when the doorbell rang. He looked at Brenda to make sure that she was still sleeping before he looked at Brandon. "Are you expecting anyone?"
Brandon shook his head and stood up. He wasn't surprised to see Kelly, Donn, David, and Steve move to surround Brenda. He took in a deep breath and walked to the front door and opened it. His eyes widened in shock when he saw who was standing there. "What the hell?"
Valerie Malone laughed as she hugged Brandon. She then gently pushed him backwards and led the way in. She knew that a couple people were about to be shocked. She led the others over to where Dylan was sitting with Brenda's head in his lap. She pushed Steve and David out of the way and looked at the man she could finally admit that she loved like a brother. "So, Dylan, I ran into your father as we were trying to follow Brenda's trail. Is she alright?"
Dylan's eyes blinked three times before he believed that he really was looking at his father. "Why were you trying to follow Brenda's trail? How are you here?"
Christine smiled softly at Dylan as she stepped up next to Jack. "Brenda's husband's family were the last of the people after your father and Interpol has finally dealt with them. As soon as I told your father that Brenda could possibly be in trouble he decided it was time to be proactive instead of reactive like he had been the last several years. I told you that he was alive and that I would keep him that way for you, Dylan. Brenda's father-in-law and other in-law's have all been either killed or arrested. Them murdering Brice was caught on tape. There are things that Brenda needs to be made aware of that I was made aware of shortly after we landed at LAX."
Dylan narrowed his eyes at Christine. "What things?"
Andrea who had been standing quietly behind Val and Noah walked around them and knelt down in front of Dylan. "Dylan, it's best that we wait until Brenda wakes up before we talk about everything. I know that you want to know, but right now you need to be calm so that Brenda gets the sleep that she needs. She looks like she is exhausted."
Dylan sighed. "She is exhausted, Andrea. She saw John Martin yesterday and he put her on bed rest. We are waiting to hear back from him about her blood test results. I hate not being able to help her. I hate that feel like I'm helpless. I want her safe and sound. I want her and the baby girl that she is carrying to get through this. I want her to stop blaming herself for Brice's death because it wasn't her fault."
Andrea nodded. "She'll get there, Dylan, and you'll be the main one to help her get there. She needs you just as much as you need her, and she always has. You two have always belonged to one another regardless of the fact that you weren't together. Dylan, there hasn't been a time since High School that Brenda hasn't loved you. I saw her while she was in London. I talked to her daily and I know how she felt and still feels about you."
Dylan smiled slightly as he ran his fingers through Brenda's hair. "I love her, Andrea. I've always been crazy in love with Brenda and I don't see that ever changing. Brenda is my world and that will never change. Just knowing that she was in the world somewhere made it easier for me to live. Did you know I saw her about seven months ago in London? I talked to her and I held her in my arms. That day was the best day of my life until two nights ago when I held her in my arms all night while we slept. She's been mine since we were both sixteen years old just as I have been hers."
Val smirked. "Dylan, I'm pretty sure that everyone here knows that you belong to Brenda and vise versa. I knew that you were Brenda's when you and I messed around shortly after I moved here. Anyone with eyes and brains only has to talk to you or see you to know that you belong with Brenda."
She sighed and ran a hand through her hair. "Brice Matheson knew and hated that Brenda was completely and irrevocably in love with you. He knew that Brenda would never see him the way that she saw you, so he settled for being her best friend. He loved Brenda as much as he hated her because she could never return his feelings. He married her to give her baby a name and then resented the fact that he married her. He cared about her one day and then the next day he didn't. He was always switching back and forth on what he was feeling when it came to Brenda. You are it for Brenda, Dylan, just like she is it for you. The two of you need to get it right this time because it is slowly killing you both being away from one another."
Dylan swallowed hard. "I'll make sure that we get it right this time. I'm not letting her get away from me again. Is she truly safe now?"
Christine nodded. "She is truly safe now. There is nobody that is going to even attempt to harm her in case they suddenly find themselves behind bars or six feet under. It took some work, but we made sure that none of the ones that were alive and in jail could get out. There was no way Jack or I were going to take any chances when it comes to Brenda's or the baby's safety. She's family, Dylan. She'll still be family even once you get a ring onto her finger."
Val snorted. "I stopped by your place on the way here, Dylan, and picked up a certain piece of jewelry I knew that you had. Just make sure for all of our sakes that you put the damn thing on her finger sooner rather than later. It's been years in the making."
David laughed. "He should have married her while they were in high school. I'm not even sure I remember who would have won the betting pool had he married her in high school."
Brandon snickered. "Steve and I would have shared the pot if they had gotten married in high school. Actually, I think mom also bet that they would be married in their senior year."
Dylan's mouth dropped open in shock. "Cindy put a bet in on when we would get married?"
Jack snorted. "Hell, son, Cindy called me and asked me for when I thought you and Brenda would get married. I don't think anyone but you didn't think that you would marry Brenda in high school."
Dylan smirked slightly. "Actually, dad, I did think about it which is what caused me to cheat on her with Kelly. The feelings I had for her scared me shitless, so I ran from them. I didn't know how to handle everything that she made me feel. I loved her so much back then that I didn't think I could love her anymore if I tried. I now know that, that is not the case at all. I love her so much more now than I did back then that I can't describe what she makes me feel."
Steve chuckled as he shook his head. "Damn, Dylan, you got it bad. Normally, you have no problem coming up with words for something. Do you think that we should wake Brenda up to tell her the news?"
Andrea shook her head. "Let her sleep a little more. While she's sleeping Christine, Val, and I will go to the kitchen to fix some of her favorite foods. Oh, Brandon, your parents are on their way here. They should be here by tomorrow."
Brandon swore. "They had better not stress Brenda out, Andrea, or I'll show them the damn door. They signed this house over to Brenda and me when they moved to Hong Kong. I won't allow them to cause her any stress."
Jack's eyes flashed. "They'll be on their best behavior, Brandon. Now, Dylan, why don't you tell me about this house that you closed on last week? I paid for it out of my own money so that you didn't have to touch yours. I do hope that you will have a room for Erica though. I know that she wants to come and visit you."
Dylan smiled slightly even as he rolled his eyes. "I should have known that you would find out. I'll tell you about the house, but not until Brenda wakes up. After all I bought it for her and me to live in together. I always planned on going to London soon to see if I could win her back. I was close to the point that I could no longer live without her by my side."
Brandon snickered. "That is the understatement of the year, Dylan. You were getting to be unbearable. Alright, we should all relax until Brenda wakes up. We can decide what to do from there after we tell her the good news."
Jack nodded. "I need to talk to Dylan for a bit. We'll be at the other side of the room."
He led Dylan over to the other side of the room and put both of his hands on Dylan's shoulders. "I need for you to remain calm. Can you do that, Dylan?"
Dylan frowned. "What's wrong, dad?"
Jack took in a deep breath and let it out. "The baby that Brenda is carrying is yours, Dylan. Bryce's father put Brenda and Bryce in bed together after they passed out from something he had put in their drinks. He confessed to that right before he died after an Interpol Agent shot him."
Dylan's eyes widened in shock. "She's carrying my daughter?"
Jack nodded. "Yes, the love of your life is carrying your daughter and not the man she supposedly married."
Dylan narrowed his eyes. "What do you mean supposedly?"
Jack sighed. "The Minister was on Bryce's father's payroll. The joke in the end though was on all of the Matheson's because Bryce left everything to Brenda and surprisingly so did Trevor Matheson which is Bryce's father. Brenda is one rich woman."
Dylan swore. "Fuck!"
Jack snorted. "I said much more than that, Dylan. We'll get her through this. Once we talk to her when she wakes up we'll decide where to start on moving you two into the house you bought. You both deserve to live together without anyone hanging over your shoulders. I just wanted you to know, so that you wouldn't freak out when we tell Brenda once she is awake. She's going to need you to hold onto Dylan. She's going to feel as if everything she ever thought or knew was a lie."
Dylan nodded slowly. "I'll make sure that she knows I'm right there with her and that I'm not going anywhere. Thank you for telling me, dad."
Jack shook his head. "I love Brenda too, Dylan. Just make sure to marry my daughter soon so that she will legally be my daughter. Just so you know I'm not worried about Jim, but I am worried about Cindy. She has changed a lot in the last couple of years and not for the better."
Dylan's eyes flashed. "She had better watch what she says or does to Brenda or she'll find out just why Jim didn't like my attitude."
Jack smirked. "Like father like son, Dylan. Go sit with your woman, son. I'm going to go make sure that Christine and Valerie are doing alright. Valerie is three months pregnant, so I want to make sure that she's doing alright. I promised her husband that I would keep an eye on her until he joined us."
Dylan raised an eyebrow at that. "She married?"
Jack chuckled. "She's married to Noah. Those two are just like you and Brenda in a lot of ways. They are perfect for one another."
Dylan grinned and then headed back to the couch. He ignored the look that Kelly was giving him and gently lifted Brenda's head to place it back on his lap. He looked down at Brenda and couldn't help the smile that grew on his face as he thought about the fact that the baby girl she was carrying was his. It would explain why she was closer to seven months instead of the six months that she thought she was. He loved her even more than he ever did in that second. He couldn't wait to watch her stomach grow even more rounded as her pregnancy progressed.
