CHAPTER-33: CRIME AND CONSEQUENCE
The Kurans sat in moderate silence around the coffee table in their lounge. Only the occasional bout of conversation cut threw the quiet. The truth be told, they where all exhausted, the excitement of the last few days taking its toile on them. But all that was soon disturbed by another knock on the door. One of the servants answered it and seconds later a very red faced, red headed vampiress stormed in.
"What the bloody hell do you think your playing at?" Annabel demanded, fury burning in her eyes.
"Oh, What do you want, Annabel? Disturbing my family at such a time." Haruka said, not even looking up to see her. Exasperation flooding his voice.
"Don't any of you dare start that with me." She hissed at the group, before turning to Kaname. "Don't you know what you've done? What your responsible for? Your completely reckless and irresponsible, and the council will not stand for it. You hear me?" Annabel bellowed at the pureblood prince.
"Anybody know what this Bitch is banging on about?" Kain questioned, giving the red headed vampiress a puzzled look.
"I'm talking about Lord Rido's murder, you imbeciles." She exclaimed angrily. " Lord Rido was a pureblood and nobody has the authority to execute a pureblood, except with a direct order from the council or by the hand of a grand hunter." Annabel informed aggressively. "Not to mention the murder of the noble Shinobu Komuro, and the disappearances of Dr Misaki Amaban and Shizuka Kuran." She added on, to with Zero's eyes widened "Shizuka's not dead?" he thought to himself, but decided to keep his mouth shut, they had enough worries at the moment.
"We are all fully aware of the council rules and regulations." Haruka told her sternly.
"Then why the bloody hell did your son believe he had the right to murder Rido Kuran?" Annabel demanded, only a semitone away from screaming.
"What?-" Haruka questioned, but he was immediately cut off by Kaname.
"So what if I had of killed him? He kidnapped Zero. Held him prisoner and tortured him endlessly. He's murdered countless other people and brought the human race to the edge of extinction. I think that's more than a sufficient reason for his execution." The pureblood prince informed her calmly. Zero's eyes widened at what he had just heard. He was the one who had killed Rido, not Kaname. So why would the brunette take the rap for him?
"That was not your decision to make." Annabel spat. "Your punishment will be extremely severe, Kaname. Mark my words." She continued bitterly.
"Wait! What will happen to Kaname?" Yuki jumped up and questioned, distress clearly on her face.
"Your mentally insufficient brother, has committed an unimaginable crime. Treason upon his own kind and as a consequence, although it will be up to the council to decide, I believe permanent imprisonment, will be his punishment." The red headed woman informed, with a sadistic smile. Zero was horrified. He couldn't stand the thought of Kaname being imprisoned away from him. Kaname had a whole life and a family out here and Zero couldn't be the thing that kept them apart, even if that meant that he himself would have to pay the price.
"You cant do that! Kaname has done nothing wrong, you cant do that to him!" Yuki yelled at the older vampiress, and ran into her mother's awaiting arms as she wept.
"Oh? And why is that?" Annabel sneered.
"Because Kaname didn't kill Rido. I did." Zero's voice cut through room. Causing everybody to look at him.
"Zero, no!" Juri warned the boy quietly.
"What did you just say, boy?" Annabel questioned.
"I said, that I was the one who killed Rido, not Kaname!" Zero told her sternly.
"Do not lie to me." the red headed hissed.
"I'm not. I killed the bastard, and given the chance I'd do it over and over again." Zero stated firmly.
"Watch your words, boy. Do not forget your place. I am still a noble, you must show me respect." She hissed once more, her eyes filled with disgust.
"And now, Zero and me share a blood-bond, so I suggest you show him the same curtsy." Kaname said calmly, though his eyes held a silent warning.
"I don't care whether he's Lord Rido's son or n-" She stopped as Kaname's words sunk in. "Y-you have a blood-bond with a half bread! Why? You're a pureblood, you could have had anybody that you want, why that filthy half bread?" Annabel bellowed, her face becoming nearly as red as her hair and her dress.
"My reasons from my actions are my own. But if you must know, I did it because I love him." The pureblood prince informed her honestly.
"I will not allow this. I will insure that Zero never see's daylight again." She told them darkly.
"Why? Zero hasn't done anything wrong." Kain intervened.
"Oh, no. Apart from committing cold blooded murder, prematurely ending the life of a pureblood." Annabel stated sarcastically.
"I hardly thing the death of a deranged dictator, could be described as cold blooded murder." Kain mumbled under his breath, before standing beside Zero, in front of Annabel. "Zero may have ended Rido's life, but he has in no way broken your law." He told her.
"Explain." The council woman demanded.
"I think it's rather obvious. But, Zero hasn't broken any laws, because he is a grand hunter. You see, in hunter society you inherit the position of grand hunter when you become the head of your clan. Seen as all of Zero's relatives are dead, that makes him the grand hunter of the Kiryu clan." Kain explained calmly to the group. Annabel's eyes widened in realization, before hardening when she realized she couldn't win.
"This is not the end of this, Kaname." Annabel hissed, before storming out the room.
