Dangerous Waters

Disclaimer: I dont own Fullmetal Alchemist, or Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. I do, however, own the original characters that I put in myself.

Roy Mustang, the famed Flame Alchemist, was not very fond of children to say the least. The way snot dribbled out of their noses when they cried, drool dripped down their chins when they ate, their grubby hands that grabbed at everything and anything, everywhere, made Roy cringe and rethink his womanizing ways. Those little bastards were straight from hell, he swore it. So, when Roy Mustang found a golden haired 12 year old and his armor clad younger brother in the aftermath of hell itself, who would have thought that his first thought would be 'I need to get him into the military ASAP.' Seriously, even he couldn't believe some of the things he did. Roy was treading on dangerous waters, here..….

CHAPTER 3: Here Goes Nothing.

The rhythmic thump of boots on tile echoed through the halls of Central, one leather clad foot following another automail one as Edward Elric made his through. He shoved his hands in his pockets and hunched his shoulders, trying to make himself as small as possible (which wasn't such a hard thing to do, but he'd be damned if he ever admitted to it). He wasn't sulking. The Fullmetal Alchemist didn't sulk. He thought. And he was sul-thinking, for a good reason. Yet another mission was finished, but it was a false lead. No Philosopher's Stone was found yet again, and even though he expected it Edward couldn't stop the slump in his shoulders when he and Alphonse found a dead end. All he wanted was his brother's body back...that's all he wanted, for his brother to be happy, for Alphonse to finally have the normal life that Edward so selfishly snatched away from him, all he wante-

"Edward."

Thoughts interrupted, Edward was abruptly pulled out of his own mind by the even voice of First Lieutenant Riza Hawkeye.

"The Colonel would like to see you. He says that it's important." She leveled him with a gaze that clearly said 'Disobey and die.' before walking off down the hall, adjusting the thick stack of paperwork underneath her arm.

Left with no choice, Edward switched directions and wandered down the hall to Roy's office, intent on resuming his self-loathing all the way there. He deserved it.

Maes failed to mention how much paperwork would be going into adopting the Elric brothers. Signing name after name, reading paper after paper, page after page, print after print.
Nursing his irritated eyes, Roy mentally declared that his day couldn't get anything worse.

His door was very violently pushed open. "You called, Colonel bastard?"

Scratch that.

"Edward, have a seat. I want to talk to you about something. And close the goddamn door, would you?" Roy scowled at the scuff marks on his door, results of the many times Edward kicked the door closed and open. Speaking of which, he was about to do again.

"Don't-" He started, seeing Edward's automail leg stretch out. But it was too late, and steel met mahogany with a loud clank. "-kick the door closed.." Edward shrugged his shoulders, plopping down on one of the couches. "Oops." Roy had a feeling he wasn't really sorry.

"You said you wanted to talk to me?" Roy sat back and crossed his arms over his chest, eyeing Edward strongly. Here goes nothing.
