A/N: Anybody alive out there?

Dangerous Waters

Disclaimer: I don't own Fullmetal Alchemist, or Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.

Roy Mustang, the famed Flame Alchemist, was not very fond of children to say the least. The way snot dribbled out of their noses, drool dripped down their chins, their grubby hands that grabbed at everything and anything, everywhere, made Roy cringe and hold up his fingers in a cross, as if they were some unholy beasts sent straight from hell to warn him of his womanizing ways. So, when Roy Mustang, Flame Alchemist, found out that a certain golden haired, sun eyed 12 year old had become a State Alchemist, passing the exam with flying colorsand rainbow ponies, it was an understatement to say that Roy was shocked. Who in their right minds would have such a young boy become a dog of the military? Oh yeah, the same person who would grab a crippled boy by his collar and yell in his face. Him. Roy Mustang, Flame Alchemist. And he was even more surprised when he found himself acting as a father figure for the Elric brothers. For the love of the Gate, this would be a long run...

CHAPTER 15: Road to Recovery

Much to his chagrin, Roy was brought back to Edward's room by order of many nurses, who were trying to keep the short alchemist at bay. "YOU GET YOUR ASS BACK HERE!" The blonde's voice rung out throughout the hallway, and with a forlorn sigh, Roy entered the room again and closed the door. Only to be met with a bought of yelling.

Alphonse nearly broke the door off it's hinges when he entered the room, hollowed voice echoing throughout the quiet hospital room that his brother resided in. Upon seeing his brother arguing with one Roy Mustang, he relaxed immediately. Because surely, if his sibling had the energy to go at it with the Colonel, then that meant he was healthy and well.

Edward's head turned faster than he'd liked, causing his fledgling of a headache to begin to pound mercilessly. Nevertheless, he was undoubtedly happy to see his brother, the tin can that he was. "Hey Al! Long time no see, huh?" And if Alphonse had his human body back, if he wasn't in the suit of armor, he would have crushed his brother in his arms, and probably wouldn't let go for quite some time. "Yeah." He confirmed softly, staring into his brother's golden eyes, eyes not unlike the ones that he once called his own. "Long time no see." It still hurt him immensely that he couldn't embrace Edward, but seeing him healthy and in one piece made up for it. Almost.

Roy watched the scene before him with a warmth in his chest, a small, albeit unnoticable smile playing on his lips. He couldn't help it. He saw the unspoken dialogue going on between the two Elrics, two boys who had their childhood abruptly ripped away from them so harshly. Two boys who had lost everything but themselves, (and even that was a stretch by itself, considering Alphonse's circumstances.) but gained life long allies and friends, some lost and some gained, and mourned all the like. They definitely weren't the picture perfect family, per say, but they had each other and that was all that mattered.
