A/N: Limelight: a lighting unit for spotlighting the front of the stage, producing illumination by means of a flame of mixed gases directed at a cylinder of lime and having a special lens for concentrating the light in a strong beam.
Or in this case – weird shadow post-apocalyptic beings.
Enjoy.
She didn't remember much from when she entered the strange worm hole. A pounding headache that was screeching in her skull was the only sign that something bad had happened.
Letting out a pained grunt, she placed a hand on her head and slowly stood up from where she was sitting. A cold, unforgiving cracked concrete was below her. She blinked her blue eyes slowly, clearing her blurry vision. The crater that was underneath her from where she fell definitely wasn't pretty. Neither was the astounding pain that she was currently in from the fall.
"You little brat!" Plasmius screeched, alerting the young teenager that something was amiss. Quickly she turned around and suddenly remembered what had transpired recently.
Vlad was fighting with Danny, trying to make him submit to him.
He had almost won until she appeared and with a sudden flux of emotions created a red, swirling whirlpool that sucked the two of them in.
And then they were here.
Ellie narrowed her eyes as she couldn't stop the enraged older half ghost from taking a fist full of her blue ripped sweater in his gloved hands. "If I had a few more seconds, he would have been mine!"
"Boo hoo," Ellie drawled out dramatically in a sarcastic tone.
It was a character trait that she had grown to instantly love. She had Danny to thank for that, she was a sarcastic asshole when she needed to be.
On the downside, she was a sarcastic asshole almost all the time. And that mostly meant trouble, and not the good kind of trouble.
With a quick motion, he swung her downwards and she could feel the air speeding past her. And then suddenly she hit the ground. Her breath was knocked out of her, and she tried to move her arms. Her legs. Any part of her body that would let her get up and fight.
She soon found out that she was too exhausted to move.
And she wasn't even in her ghost form.
"I should have melted you down when you were created…" Plasmius grumbled darkly, taking long menacing strides towards the downed girl. "Then you wouldn't be such a pain in my side," he added as an afterthought. "In fact, I think I'll do that now!"
Ellie watched as the man who created her placed his arm in front of him. His hand was soon ignited with an orange ecto-blast, and she knew that he was mad. But he wasn't mad enough for him to show off his black ecto-plasm.
"Do it!" Ellie screeched out, "You'll never get back if I'm dead!"
Plasmius opened his mouth to say something else but was suddenly pushed aside by a green ecto-blast. Ellie's eyes widened when she saw who was slowly approaching the two of them in the distance. She recognized white hair under the black hood that he was wearing.
"What is this?" Came Danny's voice, but it wasn't light hearted as she knew. It was monotone and dark, and it sent shivers down her spine. The neon green eyes looked dead, even though he was already half-way there. His black hoodie that he was wearing was covered in a green substance, and she bit her lip to prevent her from answering him.
This wasn't her Danny.
This was someone else entirely.
Plasmius quickly stood up with a growl, prepared to blast away whoever dared to attack him. His posture relaxed a small amount when he noticed it was Danny who was now before the two of them.
"Daniel?" He asked, and as soon as he was addressed, the white haired boy glanced over to him. He took in the man's form and then rose an eyebrow.
"Oh, sorry, I mistook you for someone else," Danny answered with a small shrug of his shoulders, "You've been gone for a long time that I almost forgot what you looked like," he answered again in his same monotone voice.
Plasmius was silent for a while, unable to say anything to the teenager.
Ellie decided that she would try and talk with him next.
"Danny?" She asked him, and he slowly darted his eyes towards the long haired black teenager in front of him. She had grown her hair out significantly because she didn't want to have the same hairstyle as Danny. She loved him like a brother – but she didn't want to be identical to him. "What happened to you?"
"Spirit," Danny spoke out in a loving tone. The first time he ever showed any emotion at all was when he was talking to her. She felt a little unnerved by this new development of him but kept from voicing her thoughts out loud. "It's been so long…" He trailed, slowly walking over to her.
Plasmius narrowed his eyes at what was happening, "Where are we?" He demanded to know, not liking anything that was happening. This wasn't similar to where he had just left. It seemed to be completely different. His gaze slowly drifted to Ellie, who was letting out a few panted breaths and was trying to understand what was happening.
She did this. Somehow, she managed to teleport them into another dimension. He didn't understand how it was possible – she was only supposed to be a failed clone of Daniel. Here she was, having new powers that he didn't know or could possibly understand. This should be impossible.
"You two disappeared two months ago…" Danny trailed, letting out a long sigh in reminiscence. He then glanced over at Plasmius with a small smile, "I lost a father and a sister that day. The only two other hybrids like me…"
Ellie went wide eyed, she didn't understand what he was saying. She never disappeared for two months, they were only gone for a few minutes at the most. "What do you mean?" She asked, making Danny look over at her with a blank, dead eyes.
"Father?" Plasmius asked in a mixture of both confusion and glee. Ellie looked over at him with a glare, she knew that would never happen in any time. Wherever they were, it was seriously messed up. And she planned to go home the first chance she got. If Plasmius got any funny ideas about staying to mess with Danny in this universe, then she would be sure to drag him along. However unwilling he may be.
"Disappeared…" Danny trailed and then kicked a rock on the street in a calm melancholy. "I used that word again…Again, I used that word," he muttered, placing his hands by his neck and then he started to chuckle, "Disappeared – died, I mean, they mean the same thing, right?"
Plasmius and Ellie were once again at a loss for words. This timeline was different. So much more different than she had ever expected. She existed wherever she was – but she died. Honestly, she was with Danny on this one. Didn't they technically mean the same thing?
"Daniel, how are you feeling?" Plasmius asked, looking over at the teenager with a worried expression, Ellie once again found her gaze snapped over to him. He was planning something. Vlad never takes a break from not planning something.
Danny looked up at the man with a small smile, "The black shadows are showing up again…" He stated, looking up at the vampire looking ghost as if he would understand his condition. Plasmius tried to hide the confusion on his face, but Danny somehow saw through him. "But you're not him. You wouldn't understand. The shadows are going to take me and I won't fight them again. Spirit won't be here to keep them away anymore."
"Danny, I'm going to help you," Ellie responded, unsure of how much help she'll be to her mentor and brother. He looked over at her with tired and void eyes. She smiled gently at him, letting him know that she'll be there for him.
"They've been trying to take over Amity Park, but I've kept them at bay. I've done all that I can without you here…" He muttered, looking over suddenly at a building – as if something had caught his attention. He fired an ecto-blast at the wall, and this startled both Plasmius and Ellie.
There was silence and a smoke screen that covered the area, and Danny suddenly started coughing. Ellie ran over to where she thought her brother was, and then found him squatting on the ground. His hand was on his chest, and he couldn't stop coughing from the smoke.
"Sorry, the air here has been contaminated…" Danny mumbled, slowly standing up. "Ghosts and shadows are the only living things in Amity Park now."
"That would explain the mess…" Vlad muttered, shifting into Vlad Masters as he slowly walked over to the teenagers. "What happened?"
"GIW tried to eradicate all ghosts by blowing up the Ghost Zone…" Danny trailed before letting out a quiet and uncontrollable low laughter. "Didn't work – but it did completely destroy all humans…" He stated before shrugging, "And brought the shadows along with everything."
Plasmius let out a small hum before crossing his arms, "Shadows?" He asked, and Danny took a step back in fear before looking around the area. "What are they?"
Danny started to tremble, "Demons?" He asked before shaking his head violently, "I don't know, they don't really talk to me before trying to kill me, dad…" He trailed, and when he noticed the surprise on Vlad's face, he let out a frown. "Vlad, sorry," he muttered before placing a hand up to his forehead to wipe away any seat that had been accumulated.
"You can call me that if you wish-
"You can call him Vlad," Ellie interrupted, not letting Vlad get any ideas. "How did we disappear?" She questioned, looking back over at Danny. There was something falling from deep within an alley, and Danny immediately swung his arm over and fired mercilessly.
Vlad rose an eyebrow, "The shadows?"
"It's not safe to continue our conversation here…" Danny whispered, looking over at the duo before letting out a big grin. "I'm glad you two are back," he said before turning around and floating up into the air.
Vlad looked over at Ellie and smirked, "The shadows…" He trailed before shrugging nonchalantly and taking off into the air.
Ellie let out a scoff before doing the same.
She supposed she could try and fix the Danny in this dimension before going back to her own. That, and she couldn't let Vlad have his own perfect world to rule over – even if there weren't any other humans left alive.
But these shadows seemed to be a problem…
END.
