Hey, Everyone!
I went to see The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones for the second time today! It was so fun! I loved that movie, in my opinion, they did a really great job with sticking true to the books. It was very well acted and the characters felt real. My only critic: JACE SHOULD HAVE BEEN HOTTER!
This is the final chapter of my House of Hades. *IMPORTANT AUTHOR'S NOTE AT THE END SO PLEASE READ!*
Enjoy!
Chapter 48
Leo
Leo was very confused.
How had Piper known…everything in his head? It wasn't working for him. He wasn't sure if Hazel knew, or worse, Frank knew. That would have been bad.
Very bad.
"You sure you're okay?" Frank asked her from in front of Leo.
"Yes, Frank, you're the one with the broken rib!" Hazel replied.
"This battle is more important that just me," Frank replied. "We need to do this."
"But…Frank…" Hazel was so distraught. Leo just had to walk behind them, silent.
"I'm okay," Frank replied.
The tunnel suddenly started shaking. Like an earthquake.
"Um…Hazel," Frank said.
"It's not me!" Hazel replied.
A chunk of the ceiling fell down right in between Leo and Piper. Leo jumped backward a little.
And then Leo looked up through the hole it had made.
There was another room above them.
"It has levels?" Piper asked. "I thought it was flat!"
"Apparently not. And look," Leo pointed into the hole.
Monsters. Everywhere. They were fighting. And there was sickening laughter. And then a voice he hadn't heard in a long time screamed, "Percy, behind you!"
Percy?
"Percy?" Piper asked.
"That was definitely Annabeth," Frank said. "They're alive. They're here!"
"Jason, how's it coming back there?" Percy's strained voice shouted.
Jason was there, too?
"Jason!" Piper gasped, and she jumped onto the fallen rock and grabbed the edge of the hole. She did an amazing pull up and was actually able to pull herself through the hole without any assistance, and then she disappeared from view.
"That girl could be a gymnast," Leo said. "Okay, I'm going up. Frank, you two got it?"
"What makes you think we don't?" Frank asked.
"You have a broken rib. I was just checking on you," Leo replied as he stepped onto the rock and grabbed the rim.
"We'll be fine," Hazel replied.
Leo, after a small struggle, pulled himself through the hole. He looked back, just to make sure they were okay.
Hazel was on the rock, but she couldn't reach the rim.
Hazel's shorter than Piper? Leo thought.
He stuck his hand down and she grabbed it. After a slightly longer struggle, Leo pulled Hazel up.
Leo looked down at Frank. "Can you make it?"
Frank gave him a look and then stood on the rock. He transformed into a monkey and using one arm swung himself up.
He changed back quickly and they ran off to help out.
The first thing Leo saw were the Doors of Death. Huge, open doors. They seemed to be chained open, actually.
Suddenly one of the humongous things swung shut and Leo heard it lock into place.
"STOP HIM!" he heard the outraged growl of an angry Gaea.
He saw her sandy form and her closed eyes and he shivered.
Leo turned back to the Doors just in time to see Jason scurry across them and to the other side.
Leo lit up his hand and just set monsters ablaze that were in his way as he ran to Jason.
He passed Annabeth. He saw her blonde hair as she looked around, seemingly confused by the sudden flames.
Leo waved and they locked eyes.
She smiled and kept fighting.
He tried not to think about how cut up see looked, or the lump on her head, or her bleeding shoulder as he continued to run to Jason.
He tripped suddenly, and he ended up somersaulting into the pillar that Jason was supposedly hiding behind.
He groaned as he sat back and rubbed the back of his head.
"Leo?" Jason popped his head out from around the pillar. "Hey, nice to see you."
"You too," he replied. "Whatcha doing?"
"Where are the others?" Jason asked.
"Um, Piper's fighting, Frank and Hazel are fighting, I think. Frank has a broken rib, so I don't know." Leo repeated his original question. "Whatcha doing?"
"Closing the Doors," Jason replied, like it was something as simple as getting a cup of coffee. "Want to help?"
"In any way I can," he replied.
"Okay, I need you to just kill any monsters that get close," and Jason disappeared back behind the pillar.
That'll be easy, Leo thought sarcastically as he looked around at the dozen of monsters that just noticed him and began closing in.
He lit the two closest on fire as he drew his hammer. These monsters seemed less…coordinated, than the ones he'd fought.
He slammed his hammer into the side of another thing's head and watched it turn to dust.
A second later, it reformed in front of him.
He hit it again as he set another monster ablaze, and this time he scattered the sand with his foot to buy himself a little more time.
He swung his hammer into another thing's gut and watched it explode into sand as he grabbed the shoulder of another and watched it burn.
He scattered as much as he could as he continued to fight. This was getting him no where. He was simply refighting monsters that would never die.
And their recovery seemed much faster, probably because they were standing right in front of the Doors of Death.
"How's it coming, Jason?" Leo asked as he knocked down two more with his hammer.
"It's almost through! Hang on to something!" Jason shouted, and instinctively, Leo threw a fireball and then latched onto the pillar with both hands.
The force of the air when the Door swung shut was massive.
Unfortunately for Leo, his grip on the pillar definitely wasn't strong enough, and he went flying through the air, crashing into monsters on his way through.
His back hit the floor first.
He yelled and arched his back. He rolled onto his side and took deep breaths for a second. Then he got up, and kicked an approaching monster in the hip, or what Leo assumed was its hip, and then brought his hammer down on its back and watched it explode.
He finally set his hammer ablaze, and then shouted, "Who wants a piece of me?"
Apparently a bunch of monsters did, because he was soon swarmed.
He shot a couple fireballs, hit a few with his hammer, and scattered their sand. It was kind of becoming a routine.
But then he remembered they weren't going to reform this time. The Doors were closed.
They'd done it.
He hit another one, but he was suddenly being flooded with more and more monsters.
He was about to hit one, when it suddenly exploded into dust, and Piper was revealed from behind it, her knife pointed out.
They stood back to back in a battle stance.
"I've spent more time with over this entire journey than I ever thought I would, Fix-It," Piper huffed as they surveyed the monsters regrouping around them.
"I know how you feel, Beauty Queen," Leo replied quickly.
"My count?" She asked.
"One," Leo started.
"Two," Piper said. Leo raised his hammer.
"Three," he responded. He lit his hand ablaze.
"GO!" she shouted, and they sprang apart and just started attacked and killing the monsters.
Leo lit one on fire and then kicked it into another, which lit it as well as sent it stumbling into another, and another. It was like a domino effect, and by the time the fire died, half of them were gone.
A loud, shrill screaming suddenly filled the air and it took all of Leo's will power not to cover his ears and curl into a little ball. He had to keep fighting. They were winning.
"YOU WILL NOT DEFEAT ME!" Gaea shrieked.
"That's where you're wrong, Gaea!" Percy shouted. "We're saving the world."
"And we're going to save it!" Annabeth replied.
Leo knew there was no weapon strong enough to send Gaea to Tartarus. And if they're was, then they certainly didn't have it.
There was sudden weight in Leo's tool belt, in the front most pocket. He reached his hand in and pulled out the small sphere that he had been spending most of his time on the Argo II working on.
It was like a challenge from the gods. Or do you?
"Piper, I have to go," Leo said.
"We got it down to a one person fight. I think I'll be okay," she breathed. "Where are you going?"
"I'm going to stop Gaea," Leo replied, and he ran off.
He rolled the sphere around in between his fingers. "What do I do with you?"
He dodged fights and vicious monsters. He had to get to Gaea. He had to get there quickly, because he didn't know what she was doing at the moment.
Or where Percy and Annabeth were.
He finally broke free of the mass of monsters and found her. Percy and Annabeth were trying to get to her, but monsters kept coming and attacking them from behind. He turned his attention to the sphere.
There was a spot on it. It seemed slightly discolored, compared to the rest of the sphere. When he ran his thumb over it, it was also raised slightly higher.
A button.
He tilted the button toward Gaea's sandy form. And he sent out a quick prayer to the gods that it wouldn't blow him up, and pressed down on it.
The light that followed nearly blinded him. He was forced to turned his head away and close his eyes.
It was so bright it looked white. A steady beam of light. He could feel the power radiating in his hands. He could feel the tiny sphere vibrating with all the power it still had locked up.
He heard the harsh screaming soon. But the small hum coming from the sphere shook his bones and filled his ears, dulling the sound of her cries of agony.
Hopefully it was Gaea, and not Annabeth.
And soon enough, the sphere began to shrink in Leo's hands. It was slow, but he could feel it.
He held on as best as he could. Slowly but surely, the sphere shrunk until he ended up holding nothing.
The humming stopped. The brightness behind his eyelids faded. He turned his head forward and opened his eyes.
He watched as a hand sank down into the pool of sand that was slowly diminishing, and then a harsh hiss filled Leo's brain, I'll be back!
And then the sand disappeared. And he looked over at Percy and Annabeth as they stared at the spot where they're greatest fear had once stood.
Behind Leo, he heard the sound of bodies hitting the floor.
You did it, Valdez. You saved your the world for today.
But he felt drained. Like the sphere had also been using his power.
He fell to his knees, and he blacked out before he hit the ground.
