We devour each other's mouth and we both pull away when we realize what was happening.
"Christian...I can't." I tell him as I shook my head.
"I'm sorry," he looks down, "I got carried away."
"I think I should go home..." I stand up and wait for him to say something.
"Okay, I'll walk you out." He starts standing up when I shake my head.
"No. Just stay here... I uh, I guess I'll see you around." I contemplated between giving him a hug or kissing him but I knew that neither would be a good idea.
I walk out of his house feeling confused. I've only ever kissed Tanner and Christian. Never had Tanner's kiss been as intense as Christian's. The fact that I enjoyed Christian's mouth on mine scares me. I pulled away because I was afraid of the fact that the way that I feel for him is so strong. Why didn't I feel this way with Tanner?
I sit in my car for seems like forever when I see a black shiny Mercedes pull up behind me in the round-about driveway. The woman who picked up Christian from school the other day, the one with short, platinum blonde hair. She steps out of her car and studies my car for a moment. I slump down on my seat so she wouldn't see me watching her as she put her sunglasses down like a critic who wanted to get a better look.
She turns and starts walking up the steps to the house. She opens the door without knocking, obviously inviting herself in.
I start my car and drive off. When I arrived at my house, I check my phone and see that I have two texts. One from Kate and another one from Christian.
*WHERE ARE YOU?! STARTING OF CHRISTMAS BREAK AND YOU DITCH ME?!*
I quickly type a reply.
*sorry, got caught up. had to give a friend a ride home.*
*i'm coming to your house now."
All too quick, I run upstairs and change into some pajamas. I didn't want Kate to have a reason to force me to go out. I wanted to stay in and if I was in pajamas, she would understand. Although it is quite hard not to say no to her since she is so persuasive and tenacious. So pajamas or not, she could probably find a way to force me to go the mall.
I check my phone again and I remembered to take a look at Christian's text.
*Ana, I'm really sorry, I really am. I hope you're not mad at me. Have a good winter break. I'll miss your company.*
I sigh. Why does he say these things? I decided not to reply for now...I needed time to think about what I should say or do.
The door bell rings and I let Kate in.
"I've missed you Ana! Thank god it's winter break!" She hugs me and her face lights up, remembering something, "Oh Ana...you have been hiding things from me!"
I laugh at her, "I'm not hiding anything Kate."
"You're going out with Christian. You gave him a ride home from school today, didn't you? He was the friend." She raises a brow.
"We're not going out! Geez! I just gave him a ride 'cause he needed one and I owed him!" Oh shoot...I probably shouldn't have said that.
"Owed him?!" Her eyes widen, "What do you mean you owed him?" She asks, putting air quotations on the 'owed him' part.
"Sit down," I motion for the couch, "I'll tell you the story."
We sit there for half an hour as I tell her everything. She stops me a couple of times...actually, she stopped me after every sentence, asking me about every little aspect of my life like she's trying to find a plot hole in my life story.
"Why did you say no?! Oh my god, Ana! THE hottest guy at school wants to be with you and you say NO?!"
"Kate, you know I'm not ready for another relationship," I sigh. "It's not that I don't want to be with him. I'm just not sure yet. I want to make sure first."
"Oh Ana, I love you, you know that?" She smiles at me. "You're so smart and you always know what to do and I just don't know how I got so lucky to have you as my best friend. If that was me, I probably would've jumped right into his bed..." She pauses for a moment to think about something. "Although, I kinda get weird feelings about Christian. I can't put my finger on it. He seems really introverted...almost dark."
"You told me yourself, he is mysterious." I smirk at her.
We talk about everything for hours until my dad got home and asked Kate if she was going to spend the night.
"Oh no, Mr. Steele. I'm sure my father is looking for me right now. I told him I was only gonna be gone for an hour." She looks at the watch on her wrist. "Oops. I guess I really have to go." She stands up and takes her purse with her, letting it hang on her forearm. "I'll call you Ana!" She yells as she steps out of the door.
I look at Ray who seems to be making a sandwich for himself. "Dad, I think I'm gonna call it a night."
"Alright kiddo, goodnight. You sure you don't want to eat?" He asks.
"Nah, I'm good. Thanks though. Night dad."
I walk up the stairs and go straight to bed. I recall everything that had happened today. Walking with Christian to every class and being very at ease with him. He really is a great guy once you get to kinda know him. And I would like to emphasize on the kinda because I know I really don't know him well. His house and the kitchen. Eating with him and laughing. And the kiss. Oh man, that kiss.
My phone rings and I pick it up without looking at the caller ID, knowing full well that it's Kate.
"Aaaa-na...?" He slurrs my name as if he is drunk.
"Christian?"
He hiccups and laughs, "...yeah."
"Are you okay?" I ask.
He laughs again, "No. I'm in front of your house. Can you please come out and talk to me?" He sounds like he is about to sob.
"Christian...I don't know."
"Please Aaaaa-na," he laughs again, "I'm gonna knock on your door if you don't come down." Why is he giggling so much?
"Ugh, fine. I'll be right down."
What am I doing?
