There were once two peacocks both very beautiful, one was dark with colors of green and blue, while the other one was of the purest white, with feathers like silk. They had grown up together and lived in a hidden garden. One day they decided to go exploring. As they left the garden a duck came to them and commented on the white peacocks' feathers,
"What beautiful feathers you have! May I take one and show it to my family?"
"Of course!"
The white peacock said, and she turned over and plucked one of the feathers. The other peacock watched as her friend started bleeding in the area where the feather once stood, but got envious once the duck looked at the feather with admiration. Both Peacocks continued on their way when they got to a fork in the road. A mouse scurried by and stopped to look at the beautiful white feathers and said to the Peacock,
"What beautiful feathers you have! May I take one and show it to my family?"
"Of course!"
The White Peacock said, and she turned over and plucked one of the feathers. Again she bled and the Dark Peacock again got envious once the mouse left with a white feather. On and on they walked, the white peacock leaving trails of blood each time someone walked by. The Dark peacock was boiling with rage as they took and took from her friend and never got asked to take one of her feathers.
By the time they started going home it was getting dark and a wolf noticed the white feathers and asked to take one of her feather, but as she turned back to take the last one he said, "I smelled the blood and followed it to you , you will come with me and I will show you to my family!". Now the Dark Peacock was hiding in the bushes and the wolf took no heed of it until she was upon it. The full tail feathers she had were able to block the wolf's view of the White Peacock as she staggered to her feet and ran away. When the wolf was finally able to see all that was left were the Dark Peacock's feathers. When the Peacock's finally arrived home the Dark Peacock turned to her friends and said, "I never should have been envious when all those passersby took your feathers while you bled, and the blood led the wolf to us and I almost lost my only friend. I'm sorry."
Who was treated better? The White Peacock or the Dark Peacock?
