The Japanese Police Task Force members were all staring at the young girl as if right now she had said the most unbelievable thing in the world!
"Light…Yagami…?" Aizawa found his voice first.
The girl nodded.
"That's right. You see he was the one my brother suspected as Kira and you were working with him so…I guessed that you would be the best to ask right?"
She bent over and took her tea from the table… Everyone could clearly see two sugar-cubes floating in the tea… She had put so many that it wouldn't take more… She nevertheless took two more and let them fall in the cup with two small "plop" sounds. She took her cup and took a small sip of it before placing the cup back to the table.
"Alright" she said not expecting from the others to talk, "Let's get them from the beginning, shall we?"
She bent over her armchair and took another thick envelope full with papers. She opened it and arranged her papers better…
"So…at November 28th 2003 a man called Kurou Otoharada holds hostages into a school. Mysteriously dies of a heart attack, and it appears to be the first victim Kira ever tested his powers on. Which was the lead for my brother to guess that Kira should be hiding somewhere in Japan… After that criminals start to die one by one in prisons all around the world…"
She flipped the page over while the others were still in a shock to see how much she knew already…they didn't need to ask her anything, as it seemed!
"December 5th 2003… The death row named Lind. L. Taylor appears on a TV broadcast claiming being L and defies Kira. Kira responds to his insults with using his powers and kill him… Then, the real L appears to the broadcast and informs Kira that he already knows he is in region Kanto of Japan… Right after that, Kira answers to the challenge and kills 23 prisoners that were held in Japanese prisons in December 10th 2003… The following day, December 11th 2003, 23 more criminals get killed by Kira in their cells in prison…"
"I am sorry to interrupt Emmy!"
"Aizawa!" Matsuda said.
The girl introduced herself as Emmy stopped and looked at him with a rather canny smile like L had done so many times in the past.
"Yes…Mr. Aizawa?" she questioned
"These details are already known and honestly it is pointless to talk about it right now. We already know that when Ryuzaki challenged Light, Light would answer with a challenge of his and so went on. Seeing his murders down to such a detail doesn't seem really to have a point right now!"
The girl's smile became bigger.
"You're right Mr. Aizawa."
"After all I can see that you already know all the details about Kira Case! I don't understand what we could help you in right now!"
The girl that presented herself as Emmy smiled a smile or rather grin, which looked exactly like her brother's! And after that, exactly like her brother would have she returned to her papers ignoring the last question. She had something to say and she would finish it first!
"To cut the long story short" she said, "December 14th 2003. Twelve agents come to Japan in order to investigate Kira after L's request… One of them would watch one of the suspects, Light Yagami. His name; Raye Penber…"
She played with the bubblegum inside her mouth and then pulled it out and threw it in a trash bin next to her… She then took a small chocolate from a box on the table next to her and placed it to her mouth jawing it with obvious pleasure. She soundly licked her thumb and continued.
"December 19th 2003. Kira does a couple of tests to various criminals. December 27th all twelve agents receive a file with all agents in Japan and die of a heart attack…"
She took another chocolate, pushed it to her mouth, chewed and swallowed licking her thumb right after that…
"Again to cut the long story short, many people, including the fiancée of Raye Penber, Naomi Misora, who disappeared in January 1st 2004 and committed suicide, died and my brother kept suspecting that Kira had something to do with that!"
She took another sip of her tea.
"Jenuary 17th 2004. L and Light Yagami meet face to face during the exams for the university… April 7th 2004. L tests Light Yagami's detective skills. April 13th 2004. A second Kira appears in the game by sending a couple of videos on Sacura TV. Hirokazu Ukita and other policemen get killed while trying to stop the broadcast…"
Everyone let out a gasp as they remembered the death of their colleague... The girl simply took another sip from her tea.
"I am sorry for scratching this old wound…" she said
She scratched her knee and then changed sitting position again. Now she was sitting with her legs crossed like a Buddhist monk.
"Most of the rest details you already know so I won't mention them so…moving forward…"
She flipped a couple of pages.
"May 28th 2004. Misa Amane is arrested after my brother's suspicions that she is the Second Kira… May 31st 2004. Misa Amane changes her personality almost completely…"
She looked up at everyone with her piercing, black eyes.
"Uh…yes. I think it was when she gave up on her Death Note…" Matsuda spoke
"True. But we didn't know that back then…" Aizawa spoke too
Emmy looked at them in amusement and then she continued.
"June 1st 2004. Light Yagami asks voluntarily be captured by my brother just in case he subconsciously becomes Kira and his father Soichiro Yagami follows right after."
Her eyes now became even sharper as she said:
"June 7th 2004. Light Yagami changes completely his attitude and now he is yelling for his innocence, loses his cool and acts like a common scared person that wants to avoid the death penalty…"
She looked at everyone and saw in their faces that they all knew that experience and all knew what she was trying to say…
"Light Yagami had given up his powers as Kira. Meaning that he gave up on his notebook…"
She sighed and looked at everyone with her sharp eyes.
"Gentlemen…I would like you to try to remember…did anything happen in his cell before changing his attitude? I mean to give up on the Notebook he had to say something to his Shinigami right? While he was under strict surveillance it was completely impossible to say straightforward "I quit from my Notebook" right? Tell me…did he say something unusual? Something like a code word or anything? Something that would mean he would give up on the Notebook?"
Everyone appeared to be skeptical. It was so long ago…how could they possibly remember what Light might have said to his Shinigami using a code? Matsuda took a breath as if he was ready to speak.
"Yes, Mister Matsuda?" Emmy said with a polite tone.
"I…I think… I have the impression that Light had said something…about…about pride…"
"Yes, that's right…" Aizawa now spoke, "I think he said something like "…but this pride…I want to get rid of it!"… And soon after the look in his eyes changed…"
Emmy placed her thumb over her lips in a deep thought…
"I want to get rid of it…he said…?" she whispered
"Yes. I am sure about it!"
She looked at them
"Well then I am now more than 79% sure that, that was the code word! The Shinigami was with him…and when he said, "I want to get rid of it" he actually meant the Notebook… The Shinigami heard him and erased his memories on it… Now…did you notice another dramatic change in his attitude after that?"
The Task Force members looked at each other…
"N-No…nothing…" Matsuda spoke but a bit hesitatingly
Emmy smiled again and checked her papers
"July 23rd 2004. After my brother's instructions Soichiro Yagami takes Light Yagami and Misa Amane to an isolated place. Threatens to kill Light and then kill himself… And when nothing happened, my brother came to conclusion that Light couldn't possibly be Kira… Well his calculations would be correct… IF Kira wasn't using a notebook to kill!"
Everybody gasped a little.
"What…what are you saying Emmy?"
Emmy took another chocolate and placed it in her mouth and spoke while chewing it
"Light Yagami and Misa Amane were both handcuffed and without holding anything. Under those conditions even if their memories weren't erased…they wouldn't possibly be able to kill Soichiro Yagami!"
The others said simply "Oh" feeling like idiots. Emmy was right… However Emmy didn't say anything about it and continued….
"After a couple of incidents you all know really well…" she looked with the corner of her eye towards Matsuda's direction for a brief moment, "The third Kira named Kyosuke Higuchi dies after his captivity on the spot…again work of Kira's…"
She licked her fingers and lowered one of her legs so now her right leg was still crossed while the other was hanging from the armchair…
"I have the suspicion that…that Light Yagami regained his memories that specific day and moment!"
Everybody gasped.
"Why do you think so Emmy?" Aizawa spoke.
Emmy put her hand on her chin thinking
"Well…let's just say this… Let's think that Light Yagami had no memory of the Notebook till Higuchi was captured… Right after his captivity, the Notebook went straight to my brother that was in the helicopter… Light Yagami was with him… It wouldn't be a surprise if he touched the Notebook as well…"
"Well…She is right…Light indeed did touch the Notebook!" Matsuda confirmed.
"Under this situation I believe that…" he eye shone, "…That someone that has lost his memory of this Notebook…he can take it back after touching it!"
Everyone appeared to be really amazed at her conclusion. She had come to it quite easily and it made absolute sense… Truly she was L's sister after all! She took a breath.
"If my hypothesis is correct then that was the reason Light returned back to his old self…"
Her voice became deep…
"November 5th 2004… Watari and my brother get killed by Kira…no…by the Shinigami that was following him or the Second Kira…the Shinigami dies too…"
Her hand clenched her leg…
"…After that…Light Yagami takes over as new L and Watari…"
She suddenly stopped as if taking a breath from her story.
"Light Yagami…should have been arrested by that moment!" she declared as if accusing them.
The others gasped again.
"What…what are you saying Emmy?" Matsuda stuttered
"You mean it is our fault that Light Yagami continued his actions?! Is that what you are saying?! We couldn't possibly arrest someone as an assassin without having proof!" Aizawa now yelled enraged.
The girl however remained motionless…
"My brother had just declared that he wanted to test the Notebook. He also declared loudly that he would solve the entire case after the experiments were over… Misa Amane was again suspect to be the Second Kira…and right after that declaration…my brother and Watari…die from a Shinigami? Isn't that far too strange?"
"What are you saying Emmy?"
"It appears that the Shinigami felt the urge to kill –and kill the specific two people!- right after the declaration my brother made would possibly send Light and Misa to prison or to the death penalty! Seriously I don't think so!"
The others gasped.
"Their deaths came just in handy for Light Yagami and Misa Amane to escape being arrested! Under those circumstances…it was the perfect proof that Light Yagami was Kira and Misa Amane was the Second Kira! I refuse to think that my brother's death and Watari's were just a sick coincidence! That Shinigami was helping them! Either Light or Misa! It doesn't matter! That's why I am saying that…that Light Yagami and Misa Amane should have been arrested that moment for being both Kira and Second Kira! My brother's death should have been the proof! However it appears that no one saw that!"
Everyone had gone silent! Emmy appeared to be completely right! Light Yagami could have been arrested that very moment! The proof was right in front of them and they hadn't seen it! No one had seen it! But Emmy did! Emmy took another sip from her tea and took a deep breath…and then…she smiled! Like nothing had happened! She got off the armchair….
"Excuse me for a second…" she said and left the room…leaving the police Task Force members alone…to think of her words…
A disturbing silence passed among them…and finally Matsuda broke it.
"Guys…you…you think that Emmy is right? I mean…we could have avoided the deaths of so many innocent people…if we had…"
"Matsuda!" Aizawa said, "That happened back then…there is no reason for us to talk about it now…"
"But…Aizawa…after that we are sure that…that…you think the same thing!"
Aizawa didn't answer…his hands though were tightly holding each other… The sound of the door opening drew their attention… They turned around…
"I am sorry for this interruption…" they heard Emmy saying…
Everybody gasped…a bit surprised…
Another chappie here! Sorry I was so late! Apparently Emmy (Amanda) wanted to talk about the Kira Case with the Japanese Task Force members and she had a couple of theories herself! What will she say or do next? What is her plan?
And here also you see one hypothesis of mine...that L's and Watari's deaths were a proof of who Light and Misa really were... Well of course that is my way of thinking! I am speaking through Amanda's mouth!
