How Taking Down Legacy Failed

Mickie's P.O.V

I stared at them all, Maryse had gone into labour? It stupidly didn't even occur to me that the baby could come early, I should have been there, I should be there with Ted now, he needs all the support he can get. "I don't understand, if he is there, why are we all still here?" I asked them, he must be so scared right now; he hasn't even made up his mind yet if he wants to be in the baby's life.

"He said he didn't want us there" Cody replied. "He wanted to be on his own" Since Ted was hardly ever sad we didn't know his way of dealing with it, we do now. He blocks everybody out, he should have let someone come with him, he needed the support. I can't just let him stay up there alone.

"Poor Ted" I sat down and ran my fingers through my hair. "I should go, I got through to him the first time, maybe I can this time too" I got up and went to put my stuff in one of the rooms, I would come back for it later, I just needed to get to Ted. "How long ago did it happen?"

"Just after raw" Cody answered.

"And he hasn't been in contact at all?" I asked him, he shook his head. "What was he like when he left?"

Cody sighed and sat down next to me. "Not good Mickie, I've never seen him like this" I looked up sadly at Cody. "It's like he is terrified of being a bad father to this baby"

"I think he will be a great dad, he has so much love to give, he just doesn't know it" I told him, he nodded in agreement.

"What do you think he'll do?"

I gave a small shrug. "I'm hoping he'll do the right thing, but I don't want it to seem to him like I'm judging him if he does the opposite, I want him to feel like he can talk to me"

"Our little Ted is growing up hey" Cody chuckled. "To think, Ted being a father, I never thought I'd see the day"

"Who do you think the baby will look like? Maryse or Ted?"

"I think it would be funny if he or she was spitting image on Ted"

"Weren't you ….oh I don't know…" Becky said tapping her chin. "Suppose to go somewhere?"

"Shit, alright I'm off" I grabbed my coat and headed for the door.

"Wait" Cody grabbed my wrist. "I'll come with, I can't sit around here much longer, I'll drive"

"You call us as soon as you know what's going on" Randy said, I nodded, leaned up and kissed him quickly.

I turned and walked out of the door with Cody. I followed close behind him, power walking down to the parking lot. Ted could be a father as we speak, I wonder if she will have a boy or a girl. We hopped in the car and both remained quiet, I think the same things were going through our minds, Ted was about to become a father, whether he liked it or not. It was a twenty minute journey to the hospital and we were both anxious to get there. We didn't know what to expect, will Maryse still be in labour? Had she had the baby already? Had Ted made up his mind? Is he even at the hospital? I tried to ring him a couple of times, but I got no answer, you can't have them on in the hospital so hopefully that's a good sign that he has stuck around. I leaned my head back and starred out the window, I still couldn't believe this was all happening, if I'm feeling like this, I can't imagine how Ted is feeling. He just needed a little more time to decide what he wanted to do, Maryse should have told him a long time ago that she was pregnant with his baby, it wasn't fair on Ted. I hope Ted will be willing to talk when we get there, I know he didn't want anyone to come with him, but he really needs support right now.

I was relieved when we finally got to the hospital. "His car is still here" Cody pointed out.

"Good, it shows there is a more likely chance of him still being in there" I said as I opened my car door. I starred at the hospital and took a deep breath, I gave Cody the go ahead nod and we made our way in. I didn't like being in hospitals, they made me nervous.

"We've all been here" Cody spoke. "Now I guess its Ted's turn"

"We are really accident prone" I chuckled. We walked up to the receptionist, she looked up at us. "We're looking for Maryse Ouellet" I said to her. "She came in yesterday in labour?"

"Oh yes Miss Ouellet, may I ask your relation?" She asked us.

My eyes shifted. "This is the father's boyfriend" I said pointing to Cody, whose eyes widenened.

"Oh….I see….it's down your left then up the stairs" She told us.

"Thank you" I smiled and grabbed Cody's arm.

"Why did I have to be the boyfriend? Why couldn't you say you were his girlfriend!" Cody protested.

"Because…..I thought it would be funnier" I grinned at him. "Now c'mon you whiner, let's go find Ted" We found the rooms and we peered into each of them, it was the fifth one along when we saw Maryse, she was laying back asleep which meant that the baby had come, but there was no sign of Ted or the baby. "He's not here" I turned to Cody.

"Maybe he went on a walk" He suggested. "We should split up to find him"

I nodded in agreement. "I wonder if he knows that Maryse has already had the baby"

"Guess we will find out" He sighed. "Call me if you find him"

I nodded and watched as Cody walked away. I started walking around, if I was Ted where would I be? Ted's mind is too scary to get into. Maybe he is with the baby? I kept walking until I found the nursery where all the new borns were kept. I smiled thinking about Hayden when he was like that. They were all so tiny. It was then I found Ted starring into the nursery. There was a glass window where he could look through. For Ted, he looked terrible. He was unshaven, his eyes had bags like he hadn't slept, I walked up to him slowly and put my arms around his waist. "Which one is she?" I asked him. For a couple of seconds, he stayed silent, but then he lifted up his arm and pointed at one of the cribs in the nursery with a pink blanket over it. "It's a girl?" He nodded. "Oh Ted…." I said as I looked at her. "She's beautiful" He didn't reply, he just rested against me, his eyes glued to the crib inside the nursery. "How long have you been here?"

"….A while" He replied quietly.

"How longs a while?" I then realised what I said. "God dammit Ted, you just made me say a Bella Swan line"

"Gross, I said an Edward Cullen line" That was the first joke I had heard him make all week, but it still wasn't in Ted's jokey tone.

"So how long?"

"Since she was born" He looked down at me. "She's so tiny"

"Does she have a name?" I asked him.

He looked back into the nursery and shook his head. "No….I don't know""Have you not spoken to Maryse?"

"What am I going to say Mickie? I don't know what I'm going to do" He leaned against the glass and watched in hopelessly.

"You could talk about what could happen, times to see the baby, start off slow and see how it goes" I looked back over to his baby. "She looks like you"

"I know" He said. "I got a friend of mine to do a DNA test, she's definitely mine"

"I could have told you that" I replied. "She has your eyes"

A man approached Ted with a clipboard. "Hello, I'm here on behalf of Miss Ouellet, she has signed the papers, we just you to sign now and then we can start the process" He told Ted, reaching out to give him the clip board.

Ted took them from him. "Process? What process?" He asked him.

"The adoption process" The man replied, which just froze me and Ted to the spot. Adoption?

"Adoption?" Ted repeated what I was thinking. "I don't understand"

"You are Mr Dibiase, aren't you?"

"Yes, but I haven't heard anything about putting the baby into adoption" Ted spoke, his face full of confusion. "How long has she been planning to do this?"

"She contacted us seven months ago" The man replied, Ted breathed out and ran his hand through his hair.

"I should go talk to her" Ted sighed, his face still showed that he didn't know what to do.

"Miss Ouellet is gone"

"What?"

"She discharged herself after signing the papers"

"I don't believe this" Ted snapped turning away. "Why didn't she tell me?" This just make the situation even more complicated for Ted. "Look….what happens if I don't sign the papers?"

"Then I'm assuming you want to take on the responsibility of the baby's guardian" The man answered Ted's question.

Ted's eyes watered up and again he turned away. "Can we just have a minute?" I asked the man, he nodded. I walked over to Ted who looked as if he were going to punch a wall. "Ted, we don't have much more time, you need to decide"

"I don't know what to do Mickie" His voice breaking. "I don't know the first thing about being a father, what can I offer this baby?"

"I didn't know the first thing about having a baby either but look at me now" I told him. "Hayden is the best thing to ever happen to me Ted and you will may feel that way about your baby"

"But you had Randy-"

"No, no I didn't, not at the start, remember?" He just closed his eyes. "but I had you, Cody and Becky and we're all going to be there for you" I put my hand on his cheek and forced him to look at me. "I think you would be an amazing father Ted, you just can't see it"

We both walked back over to the man, what was he going to do?
