"With Arms Wide Open." By Creed
Buford had just got off the phone. He felt his entire body shake in shock and excitement. Today was the day that his life would change forever. Their surrogate had just gone into labor. His husband, who had not been informed yet, was down stairs in the kitchen of the house that they had recently bought together. Without waisting another second, Buford ran down the stairs as fast as his feet could take him without tripping and falling.
"Baljeet!" The excited young man exclaimed. "Baljeet, it's time!"
"Time for what, Buford?" Baljeet said, obviously confused by his disoriented partner. "I do not believe we have made any plans for this afternoon."
"Don't be a dope!" Buford sputtered. " We're having a baby! We're having a baby right now!" Buford grasped his husband's shoulders. " Our surrogate is on her way to the hospital right now! She's in labor!" The smaller male was rendered speechless.
The two young men then embraced each other in a warm hug.
"I can not believe we are finally going to be parents!"
"Yeah, but we better hit the road. I'll drive."
Baljeet grabbed the keys before Buford could get to them. "I will be driving. It is not my desire to perish in a fiery car crash during the birth of our son."
Their drive to the hospital lasted about twelve minutes, but the two men were so anxious, the ride seemed to last for eternity. Once they arrived, they ran up to the delivery room where they witnessed their child being brought into the world.
The baby boy was six pounds, eight ounces. He had dark brown eyes, and curly black hair just like his biological father. Buford was cradling his new born son in his arms. "He looks just like you." Buford said as he took his husband by his side. "I'm glad that we chose you to be the father."
Baljeet grinned "Why is that?"
"I want him to turn out just like you, smart, handsome, ambitious. I hope he's nothing like me. I don't want him to close himself off to the world like I did before I met you and the guys."
"Well, if he does turn out like you," Baljeet started before he kissed his husband on the cheek. "I'm sure he will be just fine."
