Updates! You all know I don't own D. Gray - Man...

Moving on...

I'M VISITING SCOTLAND! ^^

This means that the last two weeks of August might not see a lot of updates, though I do have WiFi where I'm staying so we'll see what happens.

On with the show!^^

A bleary green eye flickered open to see a fuzzy white ceiling, his right eye remaining dark though he struggled to open it.

"Easy, Detective, take it easy."

The voice was deep and calming, the young man still groggy with the sedatives running through his system. Through his tongue felt like a weight in his mouth, Lavi swallowed thickly, his head turning slowly to the sound, hands stopping him.

"Whoa now, don't move around too much, you'll pull the stiches from your neck."

Lavi sighed as he recognized the voice, his good eye glancing over to the bespectacled face of the head chief.

"Ko… Ko… Komu… i," Lavi mumbled, his breathing still languid as he watched his boss take a seat, "wh… wha…"

"You're in a hospital," Komui told him, "you were heavily sedated but you're coming round. You were in surgery to remove the bullet. It was successful, thankfully."

"Bul…"

"Don't talk now," his captain ordered softly, "now, they tell me your chances of survival are high and very good, so, if it's not too hard, you and I can talk about what occurred, if you feel up to it."

"T… Ty… Tyki…"

"He's fine too," Komui assured the other, "he's lost a lot of blood and suffered some internal injuries. He's got a pretty nasty scar running from his shoulder to his hip but he'll live. Do you want to try and tell us what happened to him and to you?"

"O… kay…" the other whispered, his head nodding weakly.

"Tell me what happened," Komui tried softly, his voice gentle while his eyes were firm, his pen poised over the pad of paper, Lavi swallowing thickly before he regaled what he could recall.

"I… uh…" Lavi swallowed thickly as he searched his memories, "we… went… to confront Allen… bout the evidence…"

"Right," the Chinese man nodded, "go on."

"He… was there… with the killer… Kanda… Yuu, I think is his name…"

"He was the shrink in the last case," Komui stated more than asked, "are you telling me he was the killer?!"

"It… fit…"

"I read… the report you put together, the one on your desk," the elder swallowed, "you don't need to waste your breath explaining it, just tell me what happened there, what happened to the two of you."

"We… they expected us," Lavi breathed, his thoughts becoming more coherent as his words were, the pain in his neck bearable, "I don't know how… but they knew we were coming…"

"What happened?"

"Tyki… hid while I searched around… Allen was on the couch and we… talked… I guess," he swallowed thickly, "the place was dark… we didn't turn on any lights so Allen couldn't see Tyki… and I couldn't see Kanda."

"Who was attacked first?"

"There was this… stand-off. Tyki had his gun at Allen and Kanda held a sword to my throat… I said something and then I was on the ground…" the redhead took in a deep breath, "we all shouted for a bit and then… there was this… baby-"

"A baby?" Komui interrupted, "what do you mean by baby?"

"This… infant… they said they saved," Lavi looked over at his superior, "they… managed to run off with it…"

"Lavi," the Chinese started slowly, "there… there was no evidence of a baby in that apartment."

"But, there was," the other tried to reason, "I… I held him in my hands…"

"Calm down," Komui told him, "just-keep going-"

"There was a baby in that place," Lavi informed him, his voice forceful, "I'm not making this up Komui."

"Lavi-"

"They have an innocent child with them!" the redhead grew louder, "Komui-"

"Lavi!" the Chinese man finally silenced the other, Lavi stammering as his superior pressed on, "listen, we can't confirm that there was a baby there at all, no spit-up, no formula, no crib, no toys, no nothing," he exhaled deeply, "now, I'll get the word out about the baby, and get your description, but I need to know what transpired in that apartment."

The redhead and his supervisor merely looked at each other for a while, the younger's breathing deeper before he finally sighed.

"I… had the baby in my hands," Lavi swallowed, "and… the next thing I knew… something slit my eye…" his hand reached to touch in an affirmation, "I think it was his sword. I also heard a crack… Allen had thrown Tyki to the ground, broke his collarbone I think…"

"Alright," Komui nodded, "what happened then?"

Lavi licked his lips as he swallowed thickly, his eye shifting as he rifled through his thoughts.

"They… babbled on about some crazy story involving their baby and then… a gun went off… I think it was mine."

Komui leaned forward as he listened to Lavi's story, the redhead shuffling in his hospital bed.

"I… everything hurt… I couldn't see all that well and I just… reacted," Lavi sucked in a deep breath, "when the gun went off… one of them, Allen, I think, moved off the couch… Kanda just… disappeared… though I couldn't see all that well. He just seemed to… vanish… I didn't know where he was until Tyki… screamed."

Lavi seemed to shudder at the memory, the ungodly scream that seemed to fill his ears when the murderous samurai slipped his sword into the other's gut, the only other sound in the room the screaming infant.

"The baby… started screaming from the sound of the bullet and someone… Allen… tried to calm him… he was still a white-ish blur, the only thing I could see until the lamp was knocked over… then I saw Kanda… his sword was… red…"

His superior sucked in a deep breath as Lavi did as well, his eye shifting as his memories decided to torture him.

"Once I've sliced you to pieces, your one-eyed rabbit is NEXT!"

Adrenalin rushed through the redhead's system, his heart hammering wildly as he listened to the ungodly screams as the one he loved was on the verge of becoming nothing more than sliced meat. His good eye flickered around, the pulling muscles in the other eye causing muted pain to shoot through his system.

His hands left dripping blood in their wake as he dived for the darkened corner of the room, his fingers gripping his only lifeline before he turned back to face the two sickened serial killers.

"NO!"

Kanda turned swiftly to watch as two bullets ripped into the young man, the detective's body stumbling forward to collapse to the floor, his chest heaving while blood dripped to the wood flooring from the shoulder and hip, his body staggered on three limbs.

"MOYASHI!"

"… fine…" Allen suddenly gasped, "I'm… fine… Yoshinori… go with… Yoshinori!"

"Yoshi-" cobalt eyes widened at the sight of the screaming baby pressed to Allen's unharmed side, the child wailing at the loud sounds.

Lavi felt fear paralyze him as his limited vision took in the sight of a dangerous glare sent his way, the fury in the murderer practically wafting off the Japanese in waves.

"My son," Kanda murmured, his tone too quiet for the aura he gave off, "you tried to put a bullet into MY SON!"

"No," Lavi gasped, "I tried… to put one… IN YOU! Allen… Allen just got in the way…" his gun raised, "this time-"

Another loud shot echoed through the apartment, Lavi's hands still outstretched with his gun clasped firmly in them, his good eye wide as Kanda's ones were, the redhead remaining in shock as he turned to look past the long legs to the smoking gun held in Allen's hand, the younger having somehow grabbed Tyki's weapon, his back having hit the floor to shoot at the other cop.

What happened next Lavi could only hear, his body having collapsed on the floor, his eyes facing the sky while his hand pressed against the bullet wound, blood slipping through his fingers as he felt his consciousness fade.

"Yuu…" Allen whimpered, Lavi hearing tears in the other's voice, "Yuu… Yuu I'm so… so sorry…"

"Hush moyashi," Kanda murmured softly to his deranged lover, "hush-"

"I… I panicked-"

"Allen-"

"Take him… take him and go…"

Whatever happened to the murders Lavi was unable to tell, his body falling into unconsciousness as he expected to bleed to death along with his own lover.

"Lavi?"

The tearful green eye turned to look at his boss, his nose sniffing as he inhaled a shuddering breath.

"Tyki," he murmured, "wh-where is he? Can I see him?"

"He's asleep-"

"I just wanna see him," Lavi whimpered as tears slid down his cheek, "just for a minute, please?"

"Excuse me?"

Komui turned to the sound of the knocking door, his finger held up to Lavi before he approached the door, his head peeking out to talk to the new visitor.

"Lavi," the Chinese man tried, "I've called Dr. Karma is here for a psych evaluation, but it can wait if you'd like-"

"Isn't it… a little early for something like that?"

"That was the thought with Allen Walker but-"

"Wait… you think… you think I might be affiliated with-"

"Now calm down," Komui ordered, "we don't assume anything at this point, alright?"

"Right now your mind and memories are at their strongest," a voice interrupted them, "that's when it's best to question you."

Both sets of eyes turned to look at the approaching other, the long silken black hair swishing behind the muscled back, the piercing cobalt eyes meeting the green one while his hands were slipping out of his pockets to be extended to the others, the skilled fingers open and inviting.

"Good afternoon," Kanda Yuu purred, "my name is Alma Karma; I've been working on this case since the other psychiatrist decided he was unfit to proceed."

"No," Lavi whimpered as the psychiatrist approached him, "no no no no NO!"

"Lavi!?" Komoui tried, his hands extended in and attempt to calm the now flailing detective, "Lavi, calm down! There's nothing to fear here!"

"There is while he's here," the redhead spat, his shaky finger, "get him away from me! Arrest him!"

"Under what grounds-"

"THAT'S KANDA YUU!"

The atmosphere in the room stilled as the captain looked from one to the other, the Japanese man's demeanor as calm and composed as ever as he watched the officer interact with his subordinate.

"Lavi," Komui stated calmly, "this is Dr. Alma Karma, he's the psychiatrist that's been working closely with Allen Walker."

"N… No," Lavi stammered, "that bastard is Kanda Yuu! He's the fucking killer-"

"Lavi-"

"It's quite alright," the Japanese man cut in, his tone deep and his cobalt eyes piercing, "he's been through a traumatic experience; it only makes sense he should fear someone who harbours the same attributes as his attacker."

"YOU ARE THE SAME!"

"I have a likeness to Kanda Yuu," the other corrected him, "but I am not him."

"You've met this man before?" Komui cut in, his eyebrows raising in curiosity.

"Of course," the Japanese nodded, "I needed to exchange case notes with the man in person once the mad man allegedly attacked Walker, he seemed too shaken to continue working on the case, that and the police thought his identity compromised."

"So it was a mutual agreement?"

"Precisely," his eyes turned to the bedridden patient, "now, what was it you wanted me to do with him?"

"For starters, convince him that you are not this killer," Komui started, "and then… find out what he knows about this Kanda Yuu. Allen Walker's face is quite distinguishable and we've got it on every news station in the city. The other man is a bit of a mystery other than what you've told me about him-"

"He LIED!" Lavi screamed, the nurses rushing in at the sound of the raised voices, the three of them looking from the doctor to the patient, Kanda murmuring something about giving him a paralytic but keeping him lucid.

The redhead tried his best to struggle without tearing his stiches as the two women approached him, his thrashing stilling as an unknown drug flowed through him, his mind and eyes still active, the voice of Komui and Kanda sounding as though they came from water.

"Lavi," Komui started, "you're… you're paralyzed for the most part, you won't be able to move much other than blinking and mumbles, okay? Blink twice if you understand."

Lavi did as his supervisor instructed, his heart hammering wildly in his chest as he watched the other advance on him.

"Now, Kanda Yuu is going to talk to you, privately. Okay? This is doctor-patient confidentiality so I can't be here. I'll be right outside the door so nothing can happen, understand?"

Lavi blinked repeatedly as he wished to convey his fear of being left alone in a room with a psychopath.

"I-I don't-"

"We'll be alright," Kanda murmured, his hand on the Chinese's shoulder, "Komui, if you would?"

The police chief nodded slowly, a reassuring smile shot towards the other before he turned to slip out the room, the silence stifling and Lavi could only hear the sound of his heart drumming in his ears.

"How're you feeling?" Kanda cooed as he made his way over to the bed, his hands on the soft mattress as he leaned over the quivering redhead, his green eye wide in terror at the malicious smirk. "Well… guess you can't tell me…"

Lavi felt his eyes quiver as the other hovered over his body, fear pooling in his orbs.

"Relax," the Japanese simpered, "I'm not gonna hurt you."

A scared squeak slipped from the redhead's lips as he tried to move his terrified body away from the other, the drug preventing him from doing so.

"Don't worry, I'm not interested in sullying my hands with your filth," the other sneered, "and don't even think that you're on the same level as my moyashi; I enjoyed his chase, yours was annoying as hell."

"B-But-" the other swallowed his fear as his mouth was forced to work, "wh-wha… wh… why…?"

"I need to talk to you," Kanda growled dangerously, "I need to talk to you about what you dared to do to my family last night."

The glare from the cobalt eyes nearly made Lavi cry from terror, Kanda fuming as he recalled the aftermath of the bloodbath.

The endeavour at the apartment had ended when Kanda gathered both the baby and the young man in his arms, Allen pressing the infant to his own chest as his lover carried them both out of the crime scene with care through the window, blood flowing profusely from the shoulder and hip wound. Tension in the car had been incredibly high as Kanda had to maneuver around the blaring sirens while moving as fast as he could to the midpoint, his now panting lover taken from the car to his own apartment, the address a secret from the police. His make-shift operating table ready for any sort of emergency, their still crying baby placed safely on the floor in his car seat.

"Yoshi-Yoshinori-" Allen panted, his hands reaching to grip Kanda's arms, "how's-where-"

"He's fine," Kanda tried to assure the upset detective, "he's just a little scared-"

"Go… Go to him," the younger sniffed, "I'll-I'll-"

"You need stiches and those bullets out," the Japanese corrected, "you're about to bleed to death and I am not letting you die!"

"I-I put him… he could've been-" Allen's chest began shuddering as his tears started anew, his body lying on the operating table while Kanda dug around in a cabinet.

"He's still alive," Kanda murmured calmly as he returned to Allen, needle in hand, "you protected him-"

"No… no I didn't," the younger sobbed, "I-I jumped in front of the bullets to protect you and I-I didn't think of-"

"The entrance wounds are in your back," the Japanese informed the younger, "you turned away to protect both me and him. You're right, you didn't think, you just reacted." His hand held the needle aloft, "now, whether you feel pleasure or pain right now, I can't take out these bullets with you moving; I'm going to sedate you."

"I-Yuu-I-I feel-"

"I know," Kanda murmured as he grabbed the arm, the needle sliding under the skin, "don't worry, I'll be right here when you wake up."

"W-Will I?" Allen whispered, "w-wake up, that is?"

"If I have anything to say about it, you will," the Japanese told the younger, his thumb depressing the plunger, morphine filling Allen's body almost instantly, his silver eyes fluttering closed as his body succumbed to sleep.

The rest of the procedure was easily the most heart-pounding moment for Kanda, his surgical skills only slightly rusty as he cut into the younger, his tweezers pulling and removing the bullets, his eyes constantly on the heart rate and blood pressure displayed on the monitor as he carefully stitched up the wounds left from Lavi's weapon.

A screaming from the monitor had both Kanda's heart stopping and Yoshinori crying anew, Kanda's wide cobalt eyes meeting the straight line on the heart monitor, Allen's chest falling as he seemed to expel his last breath.

"No… no no NO!" Kanda roared as he finished off the final stich, his moyashi having been lucky enough to have no arteries or veins severely severed. His hand grabbed the oxygen mask before he slipped it over the other's mouth and nose before they found his bare chest. "You are not leaving us! Not like this!"

The chest compressions lasted a few moments before he grabbed the defibrillator, the machine charging before he pressed them to the muscled chest, Allen lifting a few inches off the table though his heart rate refused to return.

"Come on," Kanda muttered as he charged the machine a second time, "come on Moyashi! You can't just leave us!"

Again Allen's body jumped at the charge, and again his heart rate remained undisturbed.

"No, Allen, come on," the Japanese tried for the third time, "ALLEN!"

Oooo... don't I just suck ^^
