Chapter 17: Call to Action
A/N: So here's another update. I wanted to get this out as soon as I could, so here it is. Thanks to all of those who have read and reviewed thus far. It means so much to me that you're enjoying this story and that you're trying to unravel the mystery. That's always a fun thing, isn't it? I hope you enjoy this chapter.
Disclaimer: TMNT and all related characters belong to Nickelodeon. I only own the plot of the story.
"I can't believe this!" Raph yelled, throwing his hands up in the air. "You said you knew who A was, and now you have no idea. What the hell is wrong with you, Leo?"
"Raph, stop it!" Don chastised. "Leo's suffering from amnesia due to the kick to his head."
"Will he ever get his memory back?" Mikey asked nervously.
"Possibly, but not right away," Don replied. "It's going to take some time for Leo to regain his memory, so we'll have to be patient."
"Yeah, we could be patient, or I could hit Leo in the head again and see if he gets his memory back," Raph suggested making a fist. But before he could even do anything, Splinter grabbed his fist and flipped him over, pinning him to the floor.
"You will do no such thing!" Splinter chastised. "Have you forgotten what your brother has gone through? If you hit him, you could damage his brain further."
"Sensei, I was joking!" Raph protested. "I would never hurt Leo on purpose!"
"Dude, that joke wasn't funny," Mikey told him.
"Okay, okay, I'm sorry!" Raph said.
"We shouldn't be pushing Leo anyway," Don warned them. "He needs to recover at his own pace."
"Hey, Donnie, did you tell Robyn about this?" Leo asked him.
"Yeah, I texted her that you woke up, and she said she's on her way," Don replied.
Not long after, Robyn entered the Lair, her face a mixture of relief and worry. "Oh, Leo, I'm so glad you're awake," she said, giving Leo a gentle hug. "So, what's the story?"
"Well, Leo can't remember that much about the night A slipped up," Don told her.
"Wait, A slipped up?" Robyn repeated. "What did the text say?"
"I don't remember, Robyn," Leo told her.
"Donnie, do you think you could salvage Leo's texts?" Robyn asked him.
Don shook his head. "There's no way I can do that since the phone got smashed."
"Well, maybe once Leo's up to it, we can retrace his steps," Robyn suggested. "I saw that on a show once. It might help him regain his memory."
"Or maybe we could catch Karai and make her talk," Raph added. "If A put her up to attackin' Leo, maybe she can tell us who A is."
"But what if Karai wasn't ordered to attack me by A?" Leo mused. "Maybe she had orders from Shredder to attack one of us if she saw us."
"Are you seriously defending her?" Raph exploded. "What, you still got a crush on her?"
Leo's blue eyes flashed in anger. "No, I don't have a crush on her!" he yelled. "I'm just saying we shouldn't jump to conclusions when we don't know the facts."
"Which is why we have to go out there and get that information out of her," Raph stated.
"Count me out," Don replied. "I have to work on Leo's new T-phone."
"Well, I guess it's just you and me, Raph," Mikey said looping his arm around Raph's shoulder.
"Great, just what I need," Raph grumbled.
"If you are going tonight, I suggest you be careful," Splinter cautioned. "You might also encounter other Foot Ninjas, and they may not let you question Karai."
"Hai, Sensei, but it's worth a shot," Raph replied. "We need answers, and since Leo can't give us any, the next step is to question Karai and see what she knows. Are you sure you don't want to come along, Donnie?"
"Yes, I'm positive," Don answered. "Someone needs to keep an eye on Leo and make sure he's not going to do anything he's not supposed to do."
"I don't think there's a chance of that, Donnie," Leo told him. "You should go with Raph and Mikey. They might need you."
Donnie sighed. When Leo took on his leader tone, there was no arguing with him. "Okay, fine, but I think this whole thing is pointless. Karai isn't going to talk to us."
"We'll just see about that," Raph challenged. "Let's go."
"Wait, now?" Don asked incredulously. "Shouldn't we plan this first?"
"No because if we do that, we're wasting time," replied Raph. "The sooner we do this, the faster we get answers."
"But we still need a plan," protested Don. "We can't go rushing in there."
"Okay, here's the plan," said Raph, rolling his green eyes. "We go out and find Karai. If we find her, we take her down. I'll ask the questions while you and Mikey be on the lookout for other Foot Ninjas. If they're with her, you guys can fight them while I handle Karai and get information out of her. Got it?"
"Got it!" said Donnie and Mikey.
"Be careful, you guys," Leo said.
"Good luck," Robyn added.
"Thanks," Raph said.
"I'll take you home once we get back," Don promised. "Just take care of Leo, okay?"
She nodded. "I'll keep an eye on him. Be careful."
Don felt the urge to take her in his arms and kiss her, but he knew that would be inappropriate in front of his brothers and sensei. Instead, he gave her a gentle hug and tried to convey all he wanted to say to her. They broke apart, and Don looked into her blue eyes and committed her face to memory just in case they didn't make it back. Then he turned away and followed his brothers, hoping that this plan would work even though he doubted it would.
A/N: A pretty short chapter but I did the best I could. The next chapter should definitely be better. Feel free to leave a review and have a shelltastic day.
