Chapter 54 The Perfect Night
"Ven," Aqua says with an exasperated sigh. "Just stand still."
Ven rolls his eyes, but other than that tries to remain motionless while Aqua adjusts his tie. After a moment she takes a step and looks him over with a critical eye. She seems unsatisfied as she reaches for his tie again.
"Aqua," Ven complains. "It's good enough. Can't we go yet?"
"Someone is anxious to get to Traverse Town," Terra says as he comes downstairs to join them in the entryway. Like Ven he has on a slacks and a dress shirt, but he is carrying three ties in his hand. "How long has it been again?"
"A week!" Ven shouts and Terra smirks. "I can't believe Master Eraqus hasn't let me go." True to his word, Master Eraqus had kept strict watch over Ven and hadn't permitted him to leave MEKA in the last week.
"Next time don't run off without telling anyone if you don't want to be punished," Aqua says as she finally releases Ven's tie and turns to Terra. He holds up the three ties and she points to the one on the left. "That one," she says. "It matches my dress."
She is wearing a long slim dress that is dark blue with sparkling shoulder straps and the tie she picked for Terra is striped with the same color. Putting the other two on the banister, Terra quickly puts on his tie. Aqua immediately gives him the same treatment as Ven who waits for them, his foot tapping.
"Aqua!"
Kairi's muffled shout from upstairs makes Aqua release Terra. She hurries upstairs to Kairi's room with a small smile. The younger girl had been so stubborn about getting ready all by herself, but now she stood in her doorway holding her unzippered dress up with both hands, her big blue eyes asking Aqua for help.
Back downstairs, Ven has begun to pace while Terra watches in amusement. They both look up as Master Eraqus comes to the top of the stairs and shouts down to them, "Find Sora and Riku and make sure they're ready." He then hurries off in the direction of his office probably to finish up some last minute paperwork.
Terra and Ven head up to Sora and Riku's room find Riku standing on a chair with Sora's tie held up high in his hand. "Give it Riku," Sora says trying to climb onto the chair as well, but Riku keeps him back.
"Take it back and I'll give it to you," Riku says standing on his tip toes to make it even farther out of Sora's reach. Riku's smug grin falls as Terra takes the tie out of his hands. "Hey!"
Terra hands Sora his tie before turning back to Riku. "Why did you take Sora's tie?"
"'Cause he said-" Riku starts to say, but stops himself and turns away with his arms crossed.
"All I said was that he should ask Marlene to dance if he likes her so much," Sora says tugging his tie back over his head. Ven kneels and helps him tighten it and smooth out his collar.
"I don't like her like her," Riku says his face turning pink.
"Riku," Terra says. "It's okay if you-"
Riku doesn't wait for him to finish and instead jumps down from the chair and runs out of the room. Ven gets to his feet and shugs to Terra before taking Sora's hand and leading him back downstairs. Master Eraqus is in the entry hall with Riku next to him. Unlike the boys he has on a full suit. He looks them all over a moment before calling up the stairs. "Aqua! Are you ready?"
"Coming!" Aqua shouts back and she and Kairi appear at the top of the stairs. Sora makes a small noise of shock and Ven looks down with a smirk to see him staring open mouthed at Kairi who is wearing a light pink dress with blue flowers on it. Her short hair had been curled slightly and fell in soft waves.
The two of them descend as Master Eraqus summons a light corridor. "Hurry, we're running late," he says as he steps back and lets the others go through first before following them through.

"Wow, look at this place," Aqua says as they enter the First District. The open square had been set in anticipation of an enormous party. Lights hung on strings overhead and tables had been set up with white table cloths and large vases of blue, pink, and white flowers. The center area between the two lightposts had been left open as a dance floor with speakers set up around the area.
"Cutin' it a bit close aren't ya?" Cid says as he walks over to them. Marlene follows him with her little hand held in his. She is wearing a dress with a white top and a bright pink ribbon tied in a bow around her waist. Her skirt is a softer pink and very puffy. Cid had actually cleaned up a bit and looks very uncomfortable in slacks and a dress shirt with the top few buttons undone.
"Where's the ceremony going to be?" Master Eraqus asks Cid while the younger children greet each other.
"In there," Cid says jerking his thumb over his shoulder at the open doors of the Third District. "Leon and the others have been working their hides off to make sure its heartless free tonight."
Beautiful piano music reaches them from the other district and, like the other guests milling around the reception area, the group makes its way through the large doors. Similar to the First District, the Third District has also been transformed with the same hanging lights and chairs have been set up in rows facing the golden fountain in the corner. An aisle between the seats leads to a raised dais at the front decorated with more flowers. The keyblade wielders, Cid, and Marlene find seats all together in the fourth row from the front.
Looking around, Terra says, "There seems to be enough seats here to hold the entire town!"
"There better be," Cid replies. "The whole place got invited. And I wager they're all gonna come. Tifa's bar is the favorite watering hole and Cloud is something of a hero around here with the milita. Everyone has been waiting for this day long before Cloud got the balls to ask her."
Master Eraqus clears his throat. "I believe it is starting."
Indeed as he spoke, the music playing in the background fell silent and a hush fell over the crowd as the doors to the First District are shut. The music returns and the crowd shifts to look over their shoulders as Merlin comes down the steps with his long beard perfectly combed. Merlin makes his way down the long aisle and takes his position as the presider over the ceremony on the dais. Leon follows behind him in a black tux. He keeps his eyes straight ahead and his mouth set in its normal hard line.
Ven however only has eyes for Zack who comes next wearing a tux identical to Leon's but boasting a large smile as well. His face brightens even more seeing Ven in the crowd. Cloud comes last looking nervous as he cast his eyes around at the crowd gathered. The three of them position themselves at the front; Cloud on the left side of the raised dais with Zack beside him and Leon beside Zack.
The music changes again and the crowd turns in their seats to see the doors to the First District open and Aerith and Yuffie walk out side by side. They make their way down the aisle dressed alike in light blue dresses that come to their knees. They are each holding a bouquet of blue, pink, and white flowers and they smiles warmly at the crowd. As Aerith passes by their row, Marlene stands in her chair and waves. "Mommy!"
The people assembled laugh in amusement. Aerith waves back and Cid coaxes Marlene into sitting back down. Aerith and Yuffie finish their walk down the aisle and stand to the right of the dais. The doors at the back open once more and everyone lets out a sigh of awe as Tifa enters in her wedding dress with a veil over her face. Her dress is simple and elegant. Strapless, the top is shaped in a sweetheart neckline with delicate beading along the edge. The fabric clings to her figure to her hips before becoming fuller in a beautiful silhouette. The short train behind her swishes over the ground as she walks at a carefully measured pace to the beat of the song. Cloud stands waiting for her with a look of total happiness and as she reaches the front, he takes her hand and helps her step up onto the dais. Tifa turns and hands Yuffie her bouquet of flowers so she can take Cloud's hands in both of hers.
The music fades away and Merlin clears his throat. "We are gathered here today to join in holy matrimony our friends Cloud and Tifa…"
Merlin's words get tuned out as Ven stares at Zack, admiring how attractive he looks in the tux. Zack catches Ven staring at him and gives him a wink before turning back to watch the ceremony. Ven blushes and does the same seeing Tifa slide a ring onto Cloud's finger saying, "I do."
"Do you, Cloud," Merlin says. "Take Tifa to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do you part."
"I do," Cloud says and slides a ring onto Tifa's finger.
Merlin smiles. "Then it is my great honor to pronounce the two of you husband and wife. Cloud, you may now kiss your bride."
Cloud gently lifts up Tifa's veil and throws it back, revealing her happy smile. He pulls her close and kisses her, dipping her slightly, and everyone cheers. Merlin raises a hand and points to the sky. Red, heart shaped fireworks explode overhead and the cheering doubles.
Tifa and Cloud finally break their kiss and turn to face their friends as everyone gets to their feet still clapping. Holding hands, the two of them walk down the aisle, both smiling hugely, with Zack, Leon, Aerith and Yuffie following behind. The appluade fades as the guest gather their things and follow the wedding party to the First District, ready for the huge party that awaits them.

The feast had followed the ceremony along with many heartfelt and silly speeches. Yuffie had started it with a gushing, rambling speech about how happy she was for them while dropping subtle hints in Leon's direction that she hopes one day she can have a marriage like theirs. Leon followed her with a short and gruff speech about how he knew Cloud would do a good job taking care of Tifa. Aerith wrote a beautiful poem about soulmates and when she finished reciting it, it was hard to spot a dry eye in the audience. Zack came last and as he stood, Ven could see him fidgeting. Despite his nerves, Zack gave a great speech on how much Tifa meant to him for taking him in when there home was destroyed and how he had watched her and Cloud's love grow.
Now finished, he sits back down as Tifa and Cloud rise from their chairs and, holding hands, make their way to the center of the dance floor. Cloud spins Tifa who laughs and then pulls her close as the music starts.

Ven starts slightly, feeling arms wrap around him from beside, but he relaxes seeing it's Zack. Zack rests his chin on Ven's shoulder as they watch Tifa and Cloud continue their first dance as a married couple.

"They look so happy," Ven whispers to Zack. Cloud is holding Tifa's hand to his cheek as they sway to the music and they stare deeply into each other's eyes.
Zack nods with a sigh. "I'm happy for them," he says so only Ven can hear. "Tifa is like my sister and I know how much of a dream come true for her that Cloud asked for her hand."

"You know he asked my permission first, before he asked her," Zack says. "And I believe he wouldn't have asked her if I had refused."

"All that I'm asking for, you're all that I'm asking for," Zack sings quietly in Ven's ear, making him blush, as the song ends and Tifa and Cloud turn to face the applause from their guests.
A new song starts to play and all the couples rise to their feet, heading out onto the dance floor. "Come on," Ven says standing and dragging Zack behind him despite his protests of having two left feet.

"You're right Zack, you can't dance," Ven says wincing as Zack steps on his foot for the third time.
"Shut up Ven," Zack mutters frowning in concentration.

"See? Now you're getting the hang of it," Ven smiling at Zack.
"Oh I'm doing better than that," Zack says before spinning Ven around. Ven laughs and when he turns back around he throws his arms around Zack's neck bringing them close enough for their noses to touch.

The song fades to the back of Ven's mind as Zack leans down to kiss him. All that matters to him is the strong touch on Zack's hands on his back and the feeling of their lips pressed together. He doesn't even notice as Terra and Aqua dance by him glancing at them as they make quite the scene on the dance floor.

"I love weddings," Aqua says as the song starts to fade. "Everyone is just so happy and in love. It's so romantic."
"I don't we've ever had a chance to dance like this before," Terra says. "And I've got to say I'm loving seeing you in this dress. You look like a girl."
Aqua hits his arm. "I'm always a girl," she says sticking her tongue out at him.
"I know, I'm just trying to say you look extra beautiful tonight," Terra says smoothly and Aqua can't help but smile.

Aqua laughs quietly to herself and Terra looks at her questioningly. "I was just thinking...for so long we both liked each other, but never said anything. And then you finally told me and I still pushed you away." Aqua sighs and lays her head on Terra's shoulder. "Just think of all that time we could have had together if I hadn't been so stupid."
"Don't talk like that," Terra says kissing the top of her head. "You were just scared, and I was too, but none of that matters because we're together now."

Aqua lifts her head and kisses him lightly. "For being so stubborn and not giving up on me."

They break apart and simply hold each other tight. As the song ends and another starts, Terra feels a tug on his jacket and he looks down to see Riku. "Can I ask you a question?" Riku asks shifting nervously.
"You already did," Terra says jokingly, but Riku just looks at him confused. Terra let's go of Aqua's waist and crouches down to be on Riku's level. "What's up?"
Riku glances up at Aqua and then back at Terra. He cups a hand over his mouth and whispers in Terra's ear. Terra listens for a moment before nodding and smiling. "Hold on," he says to Riku as he straightens up. "I'll be right back okay?" He says to Aqua giving her a quick kiss.
"Okay," Aqua says watching curiously as Terra takes Riku's hand and leads him off the crowded dance floor to a quieter area. She glances around and sees Ven and Zack close by, but too wrapped up in each other to notice her. Feeling awkward just standing by herself as couples slow dance around her, she makes her way off the dance floor. She passes Yuffie and Leon and Yuffie waves to her over Leon's shoulder.
Breaking free of the crowd of dancing couples, Aqua makes her way to the table where Cid, Merlin, and Master Eraqus are sitting with Sora, Kairi, and Marlene. "Lose ya partner?" Cid asks her, throwing back a glass of champagne.
"He said he'd be right back," Aqua says looking around and spotting Terra talking to Riku a few tables away. "And what about you old men?" She says jokingly. "I see lots of single women just looking to be swept off their feet. What are you waiting for?"
"Aqua, when you get to our age, dancing with such a young crowd loses some of it's appeal," Master Eraqus says and Merlin nods in agreement.
"Speak for yerselves!" Cid says snatching up another glass of champagne from the table and downing it in one gulp. "Being a brilliant inventor and millionaire has its perks ya' know." Standing, he walks over to a nearby table where four women are sitting. A minute later he has her by the arm, leading her to the dance floor.
Terra and Riku come over and Riku walks over to Marlene. "Would...would you like to dance with me, Mar-Marlene?" He asks scuffing the tip of his boot on the ground and struggling to look her in the eye.
Marlene grins happily. "Uh-huh," she says jumping down from her chair.
"Really?" Riku says in relief. Marlene nods energetically and shyly takes the hand he offers to her. The two of them run off towards the dance floor as a new song starts to play.

"I knew he liked her," Sora says smugly.
Kairi jumps down from her chair and stands in front of him with her hands on her hips. "C'mon Sora," she says.
"What?" Sora looks at her confused.
"We're dancing."
"What!" Sora shouts turning bright red and Kairi grabs his hand, dragging him after Riku and Marlene. Terra laughs and offers Aqua his hand. She happily takes it and the two of them return to the dance floor.
"And then there were two," Merlin says turning to Master Eraqus who is staring at the lights overhead lost in thought.

"Alright, who was she?" Merlin asks, startling Master Eraqus out of his thoughts.
"Excuse me?" Master Eraqus asks.
"Don't try it hide it from an old wizard like me," Merlin says shaking a finger at him. "I know that look. What was her name?"
"...Ami," Master Eraqus admits. He looks at Merlin who gestures for him to continue. He sighs. "Amiddon was her full name. How she hated being called that! She said it sounded too old. We were only nineteen then."

"My old master had three apprentices. Myself,...Xehanort, and Ami. We grew up together, my best friends. It took me a long time to get the courage to ask her out that first time. After that it was like a dream. And then..." Master Eraqus pauses and runs a hand over his face.
"And then what?" Merlin asks.
"And then the dream ended," Master Eraqus says sadly. "I came back to reality. We were to become keyblade masters. I couldn't let feeling for her stand in either of our ways. I pushed her away and on the night of our test, she confronted me. She was so angry and hurt, but I told myself I was doing the right thing." He looks up at the night sky with all its stars shining brightly. "After we both passed, she left and she never came back."
This is looking like a contest,

Master Eraqus lowers his eyes to the happy couples dancing and watches Terra and Aqua laughing as they spun in circles. Nodding towards them he says to Merlin, "I lied to them you know. I told them that there was nothing wrong with the two of them being together, but it is one of the most ancient rules of wielding a keyblade not to get romantically involved with another wielder. Supposedly it never ends well."
"But you gave them your blessing anyway," Merlin states.
Master Eraqus nods. "I didn't want them to end up like Ami and I. I couldn't bring myself to deny them. I want them to make it, to defy the odds." He smiles watching them. "I think they can do it."
And the story of us looks a lot like a tragedy now.

The party went on for hours, but Master Eraqus took Sora, Kairi, and Riku home early as they were falling asleep on the table. He allowed Ven to stay with Aqua and Terra despite being grounded.
Terra and Aqua are still dancing, but Ven and Zack had decided to take a break and went into the currently empty bar for some quiet. Ven sits on a bar stool while Zack goes into the back and returns with two beer bottles in his hand.
"Won't Tifa notice that you took those?" Ven asks as Zack hands him one.
"I do inventory for her," Zack replies opening his. "Trust me, she won't notice."
Grinning Ven opens his as well, "I'd like to propose a toast; to the perfect night."
"You're such a sap sometimes," Zack says jokingly as he taps the neck of his bottle against Ven's.
Ven takes a swig of his beer before shoving Zack. "Am not!"
Zack holds his hands up in surrender and a comfortable silence falls on the top of them as they sip their drinks.
"It was a long week without seeing you," Zack says and Ven nods in agreement.
"Tell me about it! I'm just happy Master Eraqus didn't make me go home with him when he left with the kids."
"Yeah, then I wouldn't have been able to do this." Zack tosses his now empty beer bottle in the bin behind the counter and pulling Ven into a kiss. Ven sets his beer on the counter and kisses Zack back.
Zack moves his lips down Ven's jaw to his neck and kisses him on the soft skin there. "Zack," Ven gasps out and Zack pulls away.
"What? Do you want me to stop?" Zack asks smirking slightly. In response, Ven jumps off his barstool into Zack's arms bringing their lips back together. Zack stumbles back in surprise and his back bumps against the door that leads to his basement bedroom. Ven reaches around him and twists the doorknob, opening the door.
Somehow they make it down the stairs still locked together. At the bottom, Zack presses Ven against the wall and breaks the kiss. He leans with his forehead on Ven's and they are both breathing hard. Ven stares happily into Zack's blue eyes for a moment before giving him a mischievous smile and slipping past him. Ven walks down the short hallway to Zack's bedroom glancing over his shoulder to see Zack staring at him surprised, but then a grin spreads across his face.
Zack runs up to catch him and hugs him from behind. Ven tilts his head back and their lips find each other again. Ven turns so they are chest to chest and slips his hands around Zack's waist inside his suit jacket. As Ven moves his hands up to Zack's shoulder blades, Zack groans and pulls Ven closer tangling his fingers in Ven's hair. Without breaking their kiss, Ven slowly begins to slide the jacket off Zack's shoulders and Zack pulls his hands out of Ven's hair to let the jacket fall to the ground.
When the jacket falls away, Zack brings his hands up to Ven's face and pulls him away for a moment. "Hold on," he says breathlessly, but with a smile. "These shoes are killing me."
Laughing Ven pulls away and sits on the bed kicking off his own boots while Zack wrestles with and finally gets off his uncomfortable dress shoes. He also tugs off his bowtie and throws it on the ground next to his shoes. He sits next to Ven and they lean in for a kiss.
Wrapping his arms around Ven's waist, Zack pulls him over so Ven is kneeling on the bed his legs straddled over Zack's lap. They continue to make out for a minute before Ven's hands begin to fumble with the buttons on Zack's dress shirt. They break the kiss for a moment breathing hard and staring into each others eyes before Zack leans forward catching Ven's lips again.
More intent now, Ven begins to undo the buttons on Zack's shirt while Zack pulls the bottom which had been tucked in his pants free. When the last button is undone, Ven leans back letting Zack pull off the shirt and toss it to the side. He wraps his bare arms around Ven once more and Ven gently traces the lines of Zack's muscular chest with his finger tips. Ven bites his lip and looks at Zack keeping his hand on Zack's bare chest.
With a mischievous smile, Zack suddenly picks Ven up and turns dropping him on his back on the bed. Zack then climbs over Ven and looks down on him. The two pairs of bright blue eyes meet once more. "You're turn," Zack breathes out and loosens Ven's tie before pulling it over his head. With that gone, Zack presses down against Ven bring him back into a passionate kiss. As they kiss, Zack begins to undo the buttons on Ven's dress shirt faster than Ven had been able to undo his. Ven pulls his shirt that had been tucked into his pants free.
Zack's lips move down Ven's neck as he fumbles with the last button. With the final button undone, Ven's shirt hangs open and Zack slips his hands around to Ven's bare back. With a small moan, Ven arches his back at Zack's touch and gets his fingers even more tangled in his long hair. Zack brings his lips back up to Ven's and takes his breath away with a deep kiss.
Throwing his arms around Zack's neck, Ven pushes up making the two of them roll over, however he hadn't realized how close the two of them had been to the edge of the bed and they tumble to the ground. Ven lands on top of Zack and he sits up, looking at him worriedly. "Are you alright?"
"Oh so you like it a little rough?" Zack says teasingly and Ven blushes. Leaning back down, Ven pulls Zack back into a deep kiss. Zack responds and runs his hands up Ven's chest making him shiver. His hands caress his shoulders and gently push Ven's shirt off. It falls in a heap beside them.
In a swift movement, Zack rolls them over so he's on top again. They can feel each other's heartbeat with their bare chests pressed against each other. Ven's hands slide down Zack's back to the edge of his pants and rub meaningless patterns that make Zack gasp into their kiss. Zack moves his hands down as well until they are resting on Ven stomach. His hands slide lower until his fingers rest on Ven's belt.
"Ven! Zack! What are you two doing down there?"
Terra sudden shout from the top of the stairs make them both jerk in surprise and break their kiss. They just lie there staring at each other, each too surprised to come up with a lie. Their silence leaves it up to Terra to form a conclusion.
"Ventus! You have ten seconds to get your ass up here! Ten!"
Laughing slightly, Ven and Zack hold each other in a tight hug.
"Nine."
Zack sits up pulling Ven with him and releases him, letting him pick up his shirt and put it back on.
"Eight."
Zack stands up and hurries around the bed to retrieve Ven's fallen tie while Ven starts buttoning his shirt.
"Seven."
Ven has the bottom half of his shirt buttoned and begins to tuck it in. Zack moves back around the bed and works on buttoning the top of Ven's shirt.
"Six."
Ven stands still until Zack has the final button done and then stands on his tiptoes to give him a kiss.
"Five."
Zack breaks the kiss and slips the tie over Ven's head, tightening it and pulling him closer playfully.
"Four."
Ven quickly picks up his shoes and sits on the bed shoving them on his feet while Zack stands over him trying to fix Ven's messy hair back to its usual style.
"Three."
Ven stands and Zack quickly fixes his collar that had been half up and half down.
"Two."
Ven steps in close and Zack leans down to give him a deep kiss while Ven runs his hands one more time across Zack's bare chest.
"One."
"Coming!" Ven shouts breaking away from their kiss. With a quick kiss on Zack's cheek, Ven dashes back down the small hallway and up the stairs to the bar where Terra is standing with his arms crossed and his foot tapping. Knowing that his face is bright red, Ven tries to brush past Terra and avoid his stern look.
Terra let's him pass, but once Ven's back is to him he says, "Hey Ven, your fly's down."
"What!" Ven jumps and looks quickly at his zipper to see it is not down. Terra's hand smacks him in the back of the head. Ven looks up rubbing the spot as Terra walks past him towards the doors of the bar.
"You're lucky it was me that found you and not Aqua," Terra calls over his shoulder.

ACTUALLY Forget what I just said! Haha! Writing that I just had like a brainsurge and come up with the perfect way to have another visit to TWEWY in the sequel. Well, kind of a revisit… you'll see! :P Sorry but not going to say anything else 'cause that would ruin all the surprises!
So in case you were wondering I just wrote like 2/3s of this chapter today instead of doing the mountains of homework I have because I just started writing and couldn't stop! Good thing I have school off tomorrow or I'd be screwed. Happy Columbus Day!
