Three Warriors
xxx. monster .xxx
The first time he sees someone besides himself transform, he is in awe. When he bites into his own palm and finds himself 15 meters above the ground, staring at a pair of gigantic, plated feet and a speck of black hair that is Bertholdt, far below.
But when he is the one looking up, head yawned back so far that the crick in his neck is going to be impossible to reverse, he feels as if a shock of excitement has run him through, like an entire waterfall of adrenaline has supercharged him. The presence of the titan itself heightens his senses; the acuity of smell, sight, touch, everything is electrified. It isn't flesh that is burning — it's power. The hot steam that should have broiled him was refreshing, exhilarating. The head of the titan is so far up that he can't see its face behind the clouds.
But he doesn't need to see a skinless, grimacing maw to know that as he raises both fists in the air triumphantly, Bertholdt is smiling.
He doesn't need to know that when the massive monster completely vanishes, leaving only a lanky boy who nervously sits up in a daze, that this is them, this is their true identity.
He hasn't enough perspective to know that he's a monster what people call "civilization". He just knows that when he grabs Bertholdt's hand, which is burning hot and pulsating with the blood of a titan shifter, he is excruciatingly happy.
He is hardly eleven years old.
He only knows that so long as he is with his friends, there is nothing to fear. It doesn't matter than when Annie grows tired and sets them on the ground, he has to switch and take her place, running sluggishly toward the little crests in the distance that mark the infamous "walls" of the people. All that matters is that when he puts his hand on the structure, it is hard and white and old, and the only people he's ever cared about are right behind him.
He is not a monster.
He is a human.
And that, he says, will never change.
After all, what kind of monster has friends?
idek. ramble of Reiner?

and Reiner's like YEAHHHHH
and they're so adorable, and Bertholdt is so happyyyy
