Chapter 34
Something isn't right...this doesn't feel right Lynn kept repeating to herself over and over. The hair on the back of her neck was standing up and she was jumpy. She jumped down from the table and started to pace the floor with her gun in hand.
"Why are you being so jumpy?" Maria asked exasperated fidgeting with her own hands.
Lynn paced a little more then turned to face Maria, "Who gave us up to DeMarco?"
"I told you that little bastard Angelo did," Maria said rolling her eyes in anger. "I knew I shouldn't have trusted him."
"When?"
Maria looked at her strangely, "When what?"
"When did Angelo give us away?" Lynn almost spat.
"Last night why?"
"Then how come DeMarco didn't get you?" Lynn accused.
Maria stared at her for a moment then stood and stepped closer to her. "If you are insinuating that I had something to do with this then I ought to beat you down where you stand!" her voice grew louder as she spoke.
Lynn clenched her jaw, "Answer my question."
"Fuck you!"
"You sold us out!" Lynn yelled.
"No!"
Lynn pointed her gun at Maria and loaded the chamber. "I oughta shoot you where you stand," she growled in anger.
Maria looked at her dangerously, "If you're going to point that at someone you better plan on using it."
"What makes you think I'm not?" Lynn said lowly.
Mariachi snuck around the back of the mansion taking out one guard at a time as Sands waited patiently near the fence line. Once he was done taking them out he whistled quietly signaling for Sands to join him.
Sands heard his whistle and briskly made his way towards the sound. "Give me the layout," he said preparing himself.
Mariachi looked through the windows and quickly memorized where everything was. "One question, once we get inside how will you know where and who to shoot?"
"Don't worry about me you just keep your end up," Sands said popping his neck.
Mariachi nodded, "Just stay strait and you won't bump into anything. Once you get about thirty feet there are a set of stairs to the right and I can't see what's to the left."
"Who wants to go first?" Sands said brightfully.
"Together," Mariachi offered.
Sands nodded, "Okay..."
At the same time they burst through the doors and Mariachi opened fire. Sands aimed but waited until he was able to get a few targets before wasting any bullets. Just concentrate and you'll make it out alive Sands told himself as he took aim and fired several shots in many different directions.
Mariachi looked around the room, mostly at the men Sands had shot and nodded impressed.
"What?" Sands said reloading his clips.
"Not bad," Mariachi nodded then started out of the room.
"I'll take your word for it," Sands mumbled as he followed his footsteps and listened ahead. "Take cover they're coming." He ducked behind a pillar.
"What are you..." Mariachi didn't get the last of his words out when the wall next to him shattered from being shot. "Shit!" He dropped and rolled behind a chair and opened fire.
"I told him," Sands said to himself as he came from under the stairs aiming at the men's feet. "Have a nice trip fella's." He shot everyone in the foot and let Mariachi take them out once they hit the bottom.
"Senor, we must go, now!" Angelo insisted as the gunfire got closer.
"Calm down Angelo," DeMarco coaxed. "Why don't you go get my transport ready."
Angelo nodded and ran to get the car ready.
DeMarco finished his cigarette and was putting it out in the ashtray when the doors to his room burst open. The sound of four guns were heard being aimed.
"Good afternoon gentlemen," DeMarco turned with his hands raised to show he had no weapons.
Mariachi started to circle the room with his gun still aimed. "By the way...you have poor security," he offered with a small smile.
"No it sucks," Sands corrected tilting his head.
DeMarco nodded with a smile, "Yes it must if a blind man can get through them."
Sands smiled in return, "I'm not as blind as you think."
"Obviously not," DeMarco laughed.
"Why don't we cut the chit chat and get to the part where we kill you," Mariachi said cocking his gun.
"Ah ah," DeMarco shook his finger. "You don't want to be doing that."
"Why don't we want to be doing it?" Sands replied in a bored tone.
"Because if you do neither of you will ever see Ms. Connors again," DeMarco replied dangerously.
There was utter silence in the room, you could hear a pin drop.
"If one hair on her head has been touched...I will make sure you die a slow death," Sands threatened lowly.
"You didn't think it would be this easy did you?" DeMarco asked.
"Your kind never get any smarter," Mariachi spoke getting DeMarco's attention. "I think you'll be surprised at how much Ms. Connors can take care of herself."
Sands listened earnestly. Why the hell do I feel left out of the loop here? he wondered a little pissed.
"She was a little...too nice...and a little sloppy," Mariachi smiled.
"Maria," Sands realized with fright.
DeMarco shrugged, "You won't get to her in time. She'll be dead by then."
Without warning Sands fired and shot DeMarco right between the eyes killing his instantly. "Fuck you," he spit on the floor and looked Mariachi's direction. "You knew about Maria and you didn't tell me?"
"If we had told you then you would have wanted to kill Maria," Mariachi tried to explain.
Sands shrugged, "Yeah?"
"As long as you didn't know, she wouldn't know, therefore she wouldn't move to quickly to kill Lynn," Mariachi finished.
"You think she's just backup?" Sands thought.
Mariachi nodded, "Yeah."
"I'll tell you one thing...she's gonna have her hands full," Sands smiled.
"Who?" Mariachi asked.
Sands smile just widened.
