Rating: T I guess
"Kasem... Can you help me with my math homework...?" Lien asked. She tossed her long hair behind her back, then fluttered her eyelashes at him, as if that would make him more willing to help.
He rolled his eyes, but smiled. "Of course I will, ara, but I probably won't be much good." He wanted to brush her dark bangs from her golden eyes, but he forced himself to resist.
"Do you want something to eat, ara~?" Kasem asked, getting up from the kitchen table and heading to the fridge. "I think we have some leftovers from last night."
Lien shrugged. "Sure. Sounds good."
Kasem got out the tupperware containing the leftovers, then dished a serving each onto two plates and stuck them both in the microwave. As they heated up, he went to join Lien at the table.
"What do you need help with?" he asked her. She groaned and let her head fall onto the table.
"Uugh... Kasem, where's your elephant?"
Kasem blushed slightly. "He's upstairs, ara~. I don't take him with me to school, you know."
"Well, you should let me take him to school. Toto helps me think better!"
"He does not!" Kasem exclaimed. The microwave beeped, and he jumped up from his seat to get the food. "Now, we seriously have to do homework. This is due in two days."
"Two days, schmoo days." Lien said. She took the fork that Kasem handed her and dug into her food, which was as delicious as anything her best friend's family made.
"It's not schmoo days. This is serious, ara~. Do you want your grades to fall?" Kasem began eating his own food.
"If it means I don't have to do math homework."
He shrugged. "I can't help but agree with you there. Movie?"
"Movie."
Instantly they were up, carrying their plates with them to the den. Kasem set his plate on the coffee table in front of the couch, then turned on the TV.
"Netflix?" he asked Lien.
"Sure."
He got onto Netflix and they began scrolling through the movies. He sat next to her, close enough that their legs were touching, and at first it wasn't awkward, but then it started to become so.
Lately he had been feeling like this when he was around her. He had been feeling like he was too close to her and too far away at the same time. He had been feeling like there was something inside of him that wanted to jump out whenever she was around. He had been feeling all tingly where she touched him.
He had been feeling like he wanted to be more than just friends with her. Maybe more like... boyfriend and girlfriend.
"Wh-what do you want to watch, ara~?" he asked nervously.
"I don't know. Whatever you want to watch."
"I don't know what I want to watch."
She shrugged. "Um, let's watch Sherlock or something."
He winced. "We've watched that like three times now, ara~!"
"Yeah, because it's awesome!"
He sighed slightly. "Okay, but just one episode, ara~. And maybe we should do homework while watching, since we've already seen it."
Lien made a face. "Oh, alright!" She got up and ran to get their homework while he searched Sherlock in the search bar.
He watched her hair move as she grabbed the homework. It was so long and pretty. He wanted to run his fingers through it, to feel how soft it was. He wanted to kiss it, to rub his face against it. He wanted to kiss her.
He jumped in surprise at this thought, then busied himself playing episode one of Sherlock. He wouldn't think about this anymore! Lien probably didn't like him that way. She probably like one of the popular boys in their school, like Alfred F. Jones or that one Spanish guy that all the girls loved.
Lien came back with the math homework, spreading it out across the table. "Okay, now that Sherlock is soaking his smartness into us, we'll be able to properly solve these problems." Immediately after saying that, she got out her iPhone and clicked to the calculator. Kasem raised an eyebrow.
"Does Sherlock cheat, ara~?"
She nodded. "Yes, he does. All the time." She was silent for a moment, then said, "And besides, I'm going to do some of the problems- just not all of them."
He shrugged. He couldn't deny that doing all of those problems was pretty terrifying, so he didn't blame her for not wanting to do them all.
He did kind of blame her for the way he wanted to kiss her- he wondered vaguely to himself how her lips would feel against his, how her mouth would move, where she would put her hands.
A slight shiver ran through his body, and he blushed. Holy crap. He had to stop thinking about this! He absolutely had to! What if she found out what he was thinking somehow?
What if she could secretly read minds?!
...What if he was going insane, because he sure as hell was acting like he was insane.
"Hey, Kasem, you okay?" Lien asked, leaning closer to him and putting a hand on his shoulder.
"Hm?" He jerked slightly away at her touch. "Uh, um, yeah, definitely, ara."
"Are you sure? Wait, let me check your temperature." Lien leaned forward and put a hand to his forehead, and suddenly he leaned forward and kissed her.
"Whoa," she said, immediately moving away. "What was that?"
"Um..." He blushed. "N-nothing, forget it ever hap-"
"Well, I'm glad you made the first move," she murmured.
And then suddenly, she was kissing him again.
Whoa.
