Sodium One: A Major Malfunction Interlude 1

By ThisGuyHere

Summary: Salt Shooter sounded like the perfect way to keep the people occupied- action-packed warfare, but not against humans, providing a vital outlet for all the pent-up feelings of anger without the guilt of actual war. Until something goes terribly wrong, someone is killed, someone's responsible, and feelings about the game change. Suddenly, it's not a game anymore.

"The Salt Plains War divided the Sodium nation into two parties of people: those who believed that Sodium's close proximity to enemy nations dictated that it become a military outpost for the development of new weapons technology, and those who believed that the Salt Plains were hiding much more than they would tell us, and that military activity would destroy this hidden history. The "military force" side called themselves the Righteous Fighters, and those of a more scientific persuasion were named the Intelligence Council.

"For many years, this argumentative conflict separated Sodium's society, and eventually led to small clashes between the two organizations here and there, and from those conflicts came all-out war. This long-lasting war and subsequent reorganization attempts put back Sodium's technology by a few generations. In a sharp contrast from today's Sodium Hub, the Fighters won the war, but being so preoccupied with trying to catch up with the surrounding countries' tech, the group's organization fell due to weak leadership, allowing the remnants of the Council to swoop in and take control.

"Ironically, the consequences of the Salt Plains War meant that much of the possible artifacts in Sodium were severely damaged and/or irretrievable. Upon learning of this news, the people of Sodium became furious and riots broke out across the nation. For a while, it looked like Sodium was doomed to destroy its government and then itself.

"However, one dissenter from the Fighters to the Council changed all that. His name was Robert Purke, and he was the father of Salt Shooter. Combining high-powered military artillery with high-armored scientific exploration mechs, and with the help of much of the Council's marketing team, Mr. Purke was able to quell the nation's anger and panic over the state of the Salt Plains artifacts. To this day, we have Mr. Purke to thank for the continued organization of the Sodium Scientific Alliance, the reformed Intelligence Council and our current government."
