Robin didn't waste any time diving right into the frenzy, staff whirling. Other Robin was right with him- smashing into machines with his escrima sticks or chucking batarangs at the things. Up in the sky Superman slammed through four robots at once while M'gann psychically slammed a pair together. KF and Flash ran the circumference of the circle at the speed of sound, or higher, smashing anything that dared step near the circle. The Arrow family was drawing arrow after arrow, taking out robot after robot. Aqualad was smashing water hammers into the metals of bots; back to back with Aquaman. The Team and the League were working together as one, and Robin couldn't help but envy them that. Things would never work that way back home.
"Robin look out!" A dark voice warmed, pulling him both out of his thoughts and out of the fireblast of a robot.
"Batman!" Robin exclaimed taken by surprise.
"Try not to die." Bats said before grapple hooking off to fight another clump of robots.
"He never was one for smiles." Robin remarked, slamming his staff into an eerily still-moving detached robot arm that seemed interested in his face.
"Nope, not his style," Chuckled other Robin, throwing a pair of batarangs behind him blowing up some dismembered robo-limbs.
"These foes are relentless!" Aqualad called across the psychic link, "For everyone we smash- some portion still remains, ready to strike back!"
"Yea, I noticed. Real annoying." KF agreed, "Hate to think what things look like on the other side of that portal thingy"
The other side. Oh no. It hadn't even occurred to Robin; but these robots were coming from his universe. And while this universe had both the league and the team, his world just had the Titans and they were missing their leader. And Raven would be part of the circle, meaning that only three titans were left to protect the universe. No. No he had to-
"You're right Robin, we have to do something!" M'gann thought into his head.
Huh? He wondered dumbfoundedly when he remembered that darned psychic link.
"You're never going to learn are you?" Artemis snickered.
"Probably not." He admitted, "So what are we going to do? They're in another universe."
"Duh." Other Robin cut in with a cocky grin, "We'll just go through the portal the robots are coming through- it probably goes both ways, right?"
"What, all of us?" SB asked.
"Of course all of us!" M'gann replied, "Other Robin's a member of the team just like any of us, so his team matters too!"
"Guys- I" Robin struggled for words but then regained his cool, "Let's do this. M'gann, we're gonna need a lift."
"Of course," She smirked, "So let's go- oh wait! Hello Megan! Is the league ok with this?"
"We are." Batman confirmed, "Go."
"Alright then let's go" M'gann lifted her hands and got ready to essentially throw the team at the portal.
"M'gann wait!" Robin interrupted, this had to be done right.
"Huh? What is it Robin?"
"Send me and your Robin through first." He directed, it's gotta look cool after all.
"Seriously?" Artemis said in disbelief. "So you can have some sort of dramatic entrance?"
"Not cool dude." KF broke in. Stupid mind reading thing. Why couldn't he figure out how to turn the dumb thing off?
"More than that," He promised. "The Titans won't recognize you guys. The last thing we need is them attack all of you."
"Sounds good to me" M'gann said, "Hang on tight- You guys are gonna have to be going pretty fast and crazy with all those robots everywhere."
"How bad could it be?" Other Robin wondered aloud.
"Aaahhh!" The pair of them were hurled at way too fast speeds towards the portal, narrowly dodging out of the way of robots, fire blasts and superheroes. M'gann had one Robin, the Manhunter had the other and frankly Robin had a feeling that neither of them had done this before. The moment he passed through the portal Robin felt the psychic hold of whichever Martian had him disappear and for a few horrible seconds Robin was freefalling and looking on at the chaos around him. While things may have seemed bad on the Team side of the portal, they were a thousand times worse here. Being the source of the robots there were robots filling the skies, the land, the sea; everywhere. Most of the magicians weren't even maintaining the circle anymore but fighting for their lives. Yanking out his grappling hook Robin hooked it onto the bottom of a robot and used it to swing onto the ground below, landing epically with other Robin right behind him.
Already they were surrounded by robots.
"This is crazy!" Other Robin said, typing rapidly into his computer-glove, "There are thousands of them!"
"Then it's a good thing we- look out!" Robin moved to shield the other boy as a wall of robots exploded in front of them.
"And that BB is why I'm the hot and spicy part of that alfredo" Cyborg laughed, mock blowing out smoke from the end of his sonic cannon. Then Cyborg noticed the two boy wonders. "Yo! Rob! Nice of ya to show up for the party. Though i'm not too sure of the company you're keeping."
"Robin?" Beastboy appeared at Cyborg's side having just transformed from pterodactyl, "When did you get here?" The green boy asked, scratching his head with confusion.
"Sorry I'm late for the party guys, but I had to pick up some friends." Robin replied grinning, "And from what I can tell, things are about to get asterous."
"That's not how you use the word dude." Other Robin said shaking his head.
"It isn't?" Robin said confused, darn it and he thought he'd sounded real cool there too.
"No. Why don't we leave the fake words to me and you can stick to your puns, deal?" Other Robin suggested, continuing to type into his glove; something which Cyborg was eyeing indignantly.
"Deal."
"So where's this party?" Cyborg asked, "Cause it better not be just him. And he better not be using that to hack into my arm or something."
"Right behind us," Robin replied, deciding to ignore that other remark he jerked a thumb back behind him as the rest of the Team came flying through the portal. Yea, he'd timed that perfectly.
"Guys, this is the team. We'll be working with them, got it?" He thought across the psychic link as M'gann hooked them up automatically. He glared at BB before he had a chance to start chattering wildly about how there were other peoples voices in his head.
"Now, how are things going over here?" Robin asked Cyborg pointedly.
"Bad. Real Bad. These robot things just popped up out of nowhere and-" Cyborg began.
"Completely overran us." Beastboy finished. "We got a little help from Aqualad, Speedy and those guys but..."
"Where's Star?" Other Robin interrupted, earning a glare from Cyborg.
"I am in the sky." Starfire replied surprisingly curtly in response. Oh great, Robin thought irritably, please tell me she isn't going to give other Robin the silent treatment now.
"I am not going to give anyone the treatment of silence Robin." Starfire replied, sounding hurt. Ouch. Psychic link.
"Star sorry it's this psychic link I can't-"
"I understand." She replied quietly.
"So..." KF said after an awkward moment, "What's the plan?"
"Leave that to me" Robin replied with a grin.
The Titan Robin might not be smart enough to figure out the psychic link, but he was a genius strategist. The Titans and the Team fell in line so fluidly under his direction that it was almost like they'd trained together from the start. Aqualad and some other fish guy in blue were by the parks pond and syphoning water spout after another; knocking robots away from the magic circle with ease. KF, two little spanish dudes and another, shorter KF were running endlessly around the magic circle, giving absolutely nothing a chance of breaking into the circle. Cyborg, Beast boy and Superboy had dove head into the circle itself, knocking robots off of magicians and generally seeing it returned to the aster. The flyers; Starfire, Rocket, and M'gann had portal duty and were keeping as many robots as possible from passing through into the teams universe. The Arrow guys; Red Arrow, Artemis, and, believe or not, Speedy, were shooting robots out of the air before they could even reach the portal. To top it all off, a pair of brothers named Thunder and Lightning were making quite a rumble as they literally knocked 15 robots down at once with an electrical wave. Which left just him and other Robin, and if anything they made better partners than everyone else on the field. He'd throw bombs overhead while the titan leader went below with his staff. Things were working out great, but they still had a long way to go.
"Rob- how many are we looking at now?" Other Robin called over the sound of grating robo-bits flying through the air. Still hasn't figured out the psychic link, Robin thought with a sly grin. Robin quickly typed into his glove which had done a quick scan on how many enemies were in the area. A whole lot of red dots came up.
"You're not going to like it," Robin warned, looking up just in time to see the titan Robin smash through a bot that had had it's sights on his guts.
"Tell me. I can handle it." The leader said through gritted teeth, smashing through another robot.
"Well the problem is these things multiply exponentially. For each one you take down five may as well rise up when you take into account their arms and legs and heads. We're looking at thousands of them now." He explained.
"Just as long as we keep the circle clear long enough for the spell to work. Then it'll be fine." Other Robin said, "It's not like there's much else we can do."
"If you say so-" Robin began only to be interrupted by a high pitched scream.
"Rooobiiiinnnnnn!"
"That's Starfire!" Both Robin's shouted at once, glancing all around them. Where was she? Where did she go? Then in a break in the battlefield he saw a robot holding her in a deathgrip.
"Starfire!" He shouted pointing, "Robin, there!"
"Team's Aqualad take control- we've got to save Starfire!" The Titan Robin directed across the mind link as the two boys took off running after the robot, leaping between bits of robot and assorted battle debris.
"Rob, where you going?" A surprised KF said startled when the pair of them crossed his running path.
"No time KF just stick with the plan!" Robin shouted, eskrima sticks in either hand as he and the titan leader pursued the robot.
The robot lead them well away from the magic circle and battlefield. And it was only when they were completely alone except for the robot that it occurred to Robin that this might be a trap.
"Robin-" He began nervously.
"I know. Just stay cool" Other Robin said as they walked side by side up to the robot that still held an unconscious Starfire in his grasp. The robot then stepped backward and disappeared.
"Starfire!" Both Robin's dived at the empty space where Starfire and the robot had disappeared. Robin didn't find Starfire, instead he found a black gloved fist clamped firmly around his face.
"Hello boys. You know it's true what they say, if you have the right seed than any bird will come to your garden." Slade said smoothly. No! Slade- they'd fallen into his trap! But what did he want? What was his plan? He struggled uselessly as he was thrust into the arms of a great metal grunt of a robot.
"Really, you two are exactly the same breed of bird. It's funny how hard you tried to make your friends think otherwise," Slade snickered, as he opened the cloaked door to his hidden base.
