Chapter4- Waking Up

Danielle's POV

I open my eyes and immediately shut them back when I am faced with a harsh white light as soon as I can ease my eyes back open I see white walls smell anesthetics I feel needles piercing my skin and I have the worse headache ever. I come to the conclusion that I'm in the hospital. Fuck. What the hell happened?

"Dani, baby? Thank God you're awake."

"Mom?" my voice comes out hoarse from lack of use and my throat is dry.

"Shush sweetie let me get the doctor"

She comes back a couple minutes later with a man who looks at least 50

"Hello Danielle I'm Dr. Howell you were state of comatose for 5 days..."

I sorta blocked him out after hearing I was in a coma for five . 5 days.

"...can you tell me what what you remember last," Dr. Howell asks.

"Umm... I had a game... a party?" I'm sort of confused on what happened last.

"Can you tell me how you sustained a head injury"

"I hit my head during the game... hard" I wince when I think about it and my splitting headache comes back force.

"Ms. Carter you have severe concussion and can't play basketball for a while"

My head falls back on the pillow and I close my eyes I hate hearing that basketball is basically my life I will go crazy without it.

"I'll leave you to rest and later we can talk getting you out of here"

And with that the doctor leaves leaving me with my mother.

"Don't I tell you to be more careful while playing..."

God I'm barely out of a coma for 5 minutes before my mother tells me off about safety while playing sports and considering I was a pretty active kid I have heard this speech a million times so I tune her out.

"... and the fact that you failed to mention you had a girlfriend..."

Wait. What? Girlfriend? What girlfriend?

"Mom what are you talking about I don't have a girlfriend"

"I beg to differ if she isn't your girlfriend she should be, seems to care for you she has been here everyday checking up on you like she is your girlfriend. Emily was her name."

Emily?

"EMILY! Where is she?" I sit up when I realize I was with her last. Then the whole night comes to me like a freight train as I remember the dancing and the walk then darkness. Damn it I passed out right in front of her. Way to make first impression Carter I probably scared her half to death.

"I made her go to class she didn't want to leave your side... Sooo how long have you known her?"

I groan and fall back on my pillow I hate when she does this. I love that my mother is supportive of me but sometimes she oversteps some boundaries.

"I've just known her a day... well 5 days" Remembering I've been in a coma for almost a week

"For you to only know each other a day it seems like you have known her much longer. It's the look she has in her eyes if I wasn't mistaken it seems like that's love in her eyes-"

"Mother can we not talk about love with the girl I just met."

Leave it to my mom to be a hopeless romantic she always believed in love at first sight and things like soulmates. Don't get me wrong I have feelings for Emily. Strong feelings that makes me want to believe my mom and all her romantic mumbo jumbo but I don't think I'm ready for anything serious... Right?

"Look Dani I'm just saying she seems like a really sweet young woman and you have my approval to marry her."

"MOM!" See what I mean NO boundaries. I'm starting to feel another headache coming. "Can I at least take her on a date before you start talking about getting married"

"Whose getting married?" a voice comes from the doorway

I turned towards the voice and its Emily. I suddenly forget to breath and she looks more gorgeous than I remember her. You can hear the heart monitor going faster and she blushes when she realizes she is cause for my erratic heartbeat. Damn she so cute when she does that. My mom has a shit eating grin on her face and I look saying "I told you so"

"Hey" I greet her timidly.

She has this huge smile on her face and I think that has become my favorite part about her.

"Hi" she replies.
