Evelyn stirred. She opened her eyes. It was night. What happened? She hurriedly made to pick herself up out of bed and felt a hand on her shoulder, "It's alright, everyone's asleep, running out there isn't going to help anyone and you need to take care of yourself. Relax."

She looked at the figure that she had seen across the courtyard who seemed to be in the middle of preparing something. He smiled at her. She slowly pushed herself up to a sitting position. He went back to his concoction.

"Anders?"

"Hmmm...," was all he said, obviously concentrating.

She chuckled, then started to laugh.

He slowly turned to face her, "What's so funny?"

She gestured to him, "You! What, did you steal the armor?"

He smiled at her, "Thought you might like it."

His hair had grown a bit and was gathered in a low ponytail at the nape of his neck. Unlike when she knew him, it was much tidier. He'd also grown a tidy Van Dyke beard. She thought it actually looked quite good on him. The most shocking thing about him, though, was his armor. It was black mages robes and on the front was emblazoned what looked like a huge white eye.

He continued, "Apparently the Divine has a wonderful sense of humor...and justice, for that matter. The way she put it, someone so familiar with the Templar order from the mages perspective, and my background as an escapee and a grey warden, she thought I would do well in a position to watch over them." He shrugged, "So she made me a seeker."

"I thought only templars could be seekers."

Anders paused, "Yes, well, perhaps that was part of what was wrong. Former templars are much more likely to allow their comrades to get away with murder. Besides, Sister Nightingale wasn't a Templar."

"No, but at least she was in the chantry..."

He smiled, "Technically, so was I, my dear...or, at least under it...for awhile."

Evelyn considered that, "It suits you."

"Thank you," he turned toward her with a mug of something hot. "This should help with the nausea, or rather, morning sickness. You're pregnant."

Evelyn took the mug and looked at him, "I know."

"When did you find out?"

"On the boat on the way over. Merrill knows, but nobody else. At least, not that I'm aware of."

Anders nodded, "I thought it best to keep quiet also. I told them the trip exhausted you. Which is mostly true. You have to eat, though, especially since you're eating for two now. Drink. You should know that your cousin knows I'm holding back, though."

Evelyn smiled then blew on the beverage and took a sip. His potions were always so good. She took another sip.

While she drank, he leaned against the dresser and crossed his arms over his chest, watching her.

"I also brought some fruit from the kitchen, along with some bread, butter, and a bit of honey. After you finish that, we'll wait about an hour, then you should be able to keep something down."

Evelyn got a little more serious, "This makes things a bit more difficult, no doubt."

Anders nodded, "Yes, a little. You shouldn't worry too much about it, though."

"I need to tell Cullen about it."

"I hope you don't mind, but I have already written to him. You're here for your own safety. A letter coming from you might be intercepted. I sent it to him using a few avenues still open to us. It'll take a little longer getting there, but it won't have come from you or from Denerim."

Evelyn smiled, "Thank you for that. Also, thanks for the warning."

Anders nodded, "When I was in the gallows, I thought I'd heard two Templars talking about how the communication center for the mages was damaged during the Battle of Kirkwall. It's been awhile and I didn't know if it had been repaired yet, with the new plans for the chantry and all, so I sent word, just in case." He paused, then asked, "Will your husband be joining you here?"

Evelyn sighed, "He's trying to make sure all of the mages are out of the city, then he said he would try."

Anders sat on the edge of the bed, "If he receives orders to go into the field, did he say what he would do?"

"No. He mentioned he might, but we didn't discuss it beyond that."

"What do you think?"

Evelyn shrugged, "I think that even he doesn't know. He wants to set a good example so badly and he truly believes he can make the Templars better from within. On the other hand, he's going to want to be sure that I'm safe and well. He's made it quite clear that the safety of his family is his first priority. And now, with the baby..."

Anders nodded, "We'll just have to see, I suppose."

Evelyn finished up her drink, while they talked. Anders gave the beverage time to settle her stomach, then gave her the food. When she was done, she felt much better than she had in days. All the while, they talked and laughed amiably, like old friends.

After a few hours, he said that she needed her rest and got up to leave. As he did so, he absentmindedly kissed her on her forehead. It was a small peck but he heard her catch her breath. Then he realized what he had done.

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have...old habit...sorry," he stumbled on his words.

Evelyn shook her head, "No, it's alright." Then hurriedly added, "I mean, don't do it again, but...just this once, it's done, so...it's alright." She smiled at him.

He nodded, "I'll just leave you to rest, then. Goodnight, what's left of it, anyway."

"Goodnight."

He picked up everything and exited her room. She closed her eyes and could still smell the earthy tones mixed with a hint of ozone that was so familiar to her. Despite everything else, that hadn't changed about him. Then, she laid down and tried to get some sleep.
