Chapter 15
The next month and a half had gone by quickly and smoothly for Mike and Eve. She was so happy that the love of her life was home for good, and she no longer had to worry about when or even if she would be able to see him again.
He was still working on himself, and since seeing a therapist, Mike learned that he was suffering from PTSD. Which he learned was very common for those who had been sent of overseas. He was glad that he was able to find a reason for why he was acting the way he had been acting lately, but he hated that he was labeled as something. He just wanted to be normal.
This was something that the Cleveland native was struggling with, but was learning to accept. He realized that this was normal, and would get better over time. He told himself that there was no reason to label himself as "weird" or "not normal," because he was normal. He was just dealing with a setback. But he knew that this was something he and Eve would get through together.
It had taken him some time to admit to Eve that he was in fact suffering from PTSD, and didn't tell her from the moment he had learned that the PTSD was the reasoning behind the way he had been acting. T
He didn't admit it to her right away because not only was he embarrassed, but he didn't want to give her something else to stress about, or put another stress on their relationship, especially because they had been doing so well lately.
However, when he finally was able to get the courage to tell Eve what was going on with him, she was more than accept him, and promised him that she was here for him no matter what. He was thankful for that, but he also started to wonder if he was weight on Eve's shoulders that she didn't need.
"Baby, are you okay?" Eve asked, bringing him out of his thoughts.
Mike looked up from where he was sitting on the couch. He hadn't even heard Eve come inside. She had gone out a couple of hours ago to do some shopping. "Yeah, I'm okay." He said, "I'm just thinking."
Eve sat beside Mike, her eyes sad. Mike always seemed to be thinking nowadays, and sometimes she was worried that he was overthinking things. She kissed his cheek as she ran her fingers through his hair. "What are you thinking about?" She asked him, her tone was gentle and soft. She always tried to remind herself of what Mike was going through, and that sometimes all he needed was to talk.
"Nothing too important," he replied softly. "I missed you," he said changing the subject. "How was your day?"
"My day was good," she said, she knew that Mike had changed the subject, but she didn't want to push him into talking about something he didn't want to talk about. "But I do have something I need to talk to you about, so can we go to dinner tonight?"
Mike nodded. "I would love to go to dinner," he smiled. "It sounds great."
Eve smiled, her face lighting up. "Great!" She happily said.
Dinner went smoothly for the couple, and Eve was happy that she and Mike were finally starting to get back to the way they used to be as a couple, and she hoped that the news she would share with Mike tonight would only make their relationship stronger.
"So what did you have to tell me?" Mike asked as they walked along the beach, and he swung their hands back and forth. He felt at peace, and it was a nice feeling that he hadn't felt for some time now.
Eve smiled at him, and kissed his knuckles. "Well Mikey…" she started, not so sure how to break the news to him. "For the last couple of days I haven't been feeling the best, and I found out the reason behind it. I'm pregnant; we're going to have a baby." She explained.
Mike stopped dead in his tracks as he looked at Eve, who had stopped when he had.
Eve tired the best to read her fiancés face, but it was rather difficult, and she was struggling to see what he was feeling. "Mikey?" She said after a few moments. "Babe, are you okay?"
"I'm okay," Mike said after a couple of minutes. "Did…did you say that we're having a baby?" He asked.
Eve nodded. "Yes, we are."
Mike smiled warmly, "Eve, I'm so happy!" He finally said, once he was able to process the news he was given. "I'm going to be a dad!" He said excitedly as he spun her around. "This is the happiest day of my life! Until the day I marry you of course!"
Eve giggled as Mike had finally set her down. She was almost dizzy from all the spinning around that Mike had done. She stepped forward, and almost lost her footing.
Mike took notice of this. "Sorry baby," he apologized. "Did I make you dizzy?" He asked as he brought her into his arms and kissed her temple.
"Only a little," she smiled. "I'm just so glad to see you so happy about the news. I was worried you wouldn't be," she softly admitted.
"Of course I'm happy," he whispered as he brushed the hair out of her face. "I love you so much, and you know that ever since we were teens that I've wanted a child with you," he smiled warmly as he looked into her eyes, and placed his hands on her stomach, which would be growing soon. "Soon the life that we created will be in there," he whispered into her hair. "When will we know what we're having?"
"Not for a while," she smiled at his excitement. She was so happy that he had responded positively to the news. She couldn't wait to have a family with Mike. She knew that the two of them would make a perfect family with their child about nine months from now.
"If we have a girl, what would you like to name her?" Mike asked; more questions were starting to fill his mind as he sat down in the sand, and Eve sat down beside him. "I know that she'll be beautiful, like her mother. We better hope that he or she has your personality too." He smiled. "Because if he or she as my personality, they'll just be handful."
Eve chuckled as she leaned into Mike's embrace. "If we have a little girl, I would love to name her Madeleine. Madeleine Alexis Mizanin," she said proudly. "If we have a boy, I want to name him David. David Michael Mizanin, what do you think?"
"I love them both," Mike said honestly as he ran his fingers through Eve's hair, and he listened to the waves crash against the shoreline. "I'm so happy, Eve. Thank you for not giving up on me, or this relationship. I don't know how you didn't walk away from me sometimes, but it means the world to me that you didn't," he said.
"Of course I wouldn't walk away from you, Mikey. When you love someone who is going through a struggle, and they're hurting, you stay with them and help them through it. Even if it hurts you too, because it's more than worth it in the end to see you happy."
Mike was quiet as he nodded his head. He didn't know how he had gotten so lucky to find such a perfect girl like Eve, and what made her keep trying even though he knew that he had hurt her more than once. But he thanked God for helping him find her, and he promised himself that he would be the most amazing father, and treat Eve like the princess that she was.
"You know," Mike said after he had shaken himself from his thoughts. "If we do have a little girl, I'm going to spoil her so much that it'll probably be ridiculous. But she's going to be a Daddy's girl," he said proudly. "But if we have a boy…we all know that he'll have you wrapped around his finger. Especially if he looks like me, because let's face it, he'll be the cutest kid alive." He grinned.
Eve laughed as she pushed him playfully, and then gave him a quick kiss. "Well, I guess it's safe to say that if we have twins that we'll be in trouble." She said.
Mike's face lit up. "Yeah, we will be in trouble," he agreed. "But if we have twins, that'll be so perfect!"
Eve smiled as she ran her fingers through his hair, and kissed him softly. "I told you that extra bedroom in our house would become useful," she smiled. "We can start going shopping for the basic things tomorrow if you want. You know, a car seat, a highchair, a crib." She said, listing just a few things they would need soon. She couldn't wait.
"I would love to," Mike whispered. "But if we're lucky, we'll need two of everything."
